As two kids' father, I have to beg foreigners to adopt my kids because I failed to escape here but I can't bear seeing them dying for pollution! Citizens used protest and got arrested as authority announced to build polyethylene program in Chengdu which is surrounding by mountains! It's not reasonable to build up this huge heavy plants in Chengdu as the expertise of geographic and environmental suggested. I had tried to apply for studying abroad to fight for better life for my kids but failed. I love my kids and can't see they're dying🧎♂️
I went to the city for 3 weeks in June 2019. I only noticed it a few times. I talked to several residents and they say the pollution was much worse 5 years ago. The air is getting better.
I was born and raised in Chengdu and still here today. I can tell you that's not true, the grey occupied most of the year even in summers resent years, the air quality has been declined gradually since 100 billions tons of polyethylene program setting here. My kids are dying physically and mentally! God helps us
Chengdu struggles to deal with air pollution... actually Chengdu has much less industries especially those high-impact ones than most Chinese mega cities, because the government wanted to control air quality. But they failed in a while. Winter circulation in Chengdu just sucks, and it's very humid, one of the most humid cities in China, worsening the smog you normally see. I heard there's more sun last winter, I hope the air quality can get better in the future.
Thank for your kind suggestion. I am a chengdu citizen. My boyfriend 's father and my mom's friend died for lung cancer in last year. One of them never take cigarette, so I think the most reason is the horrible air pollution. Although I have bought air purifier for my parents, but most of people do not have the sense to care about air quality and push government to change their policies. Due to the geography and climate, chengdu do not suit for developing industry.
Hopefully, the younger generation will learn and be more careful. I know that many Chinese people like to keep their windows open, and they don't like the cool air that is blown from the air purifier, but I think it's better than the polluted air.
Very objective video and nice suggestions. Not like some channels just keep mocking the local Chinese and cursing China all the time to please those anti-China haters and make self feel superior.
Pollution can be really bad in winter. Chengdu's location at a basin made things worse. Chengdu is booming. I hope they can turn things around like Beijing in recent years.
Chengdu's air condition worsens rapidly these years, and it's not getting better any time soon, because the city is really ambitious about becoming another mega industrial city in China. I suggest you move to somewhere more south.
Wow 60 bucks for that is amazing. I'm sure if one paid like 200 it would be even better. When I was in China I found I adapted quickly with no mask. My first day in Shanghai I could barely breath but two weeks later I was breathing great in more polluted inland cities and actually felt like it was less polluted. We are an adaptable species.
Yes. The pollution is severe in winter and has become worse in these years. You will find air pollution has little to do with the amount of cars, if you research online, its mainly up to how many chemical factories there. I lived in Chengdu for 2 years and its air condition got worse after Pengzhou Petroleum & Chemical opened a factory there in late 2016. Idk when did u move to Chengdu, but I believe air was much better before 2016.
Never. I am an American expat living in Brazil now. My husband is Brazilian. Brazil was a wonderful adventure, now I'm excited to work in China for a while . I have a two year contract in Chengdu. We are very excited.
Our air is never better than Canada. You know the population of chongqing is close to Canada. The air in Beijing is very bad, but life expectancy is 82 years
Well, the app isn't reading the air pollution - some kind of device does the reading and the app just reports it. I question its accuracy too, but it's the best thing we can go on.
as a developing country china has aa average life expectency near two years less than america. Beijing shanghai guangzhou and other big cities has the biggest pollution but guess what among the longgest life expectency in the world more than 80 more so years.
Chengdu is situated on a basin, which is the worst place to build factories, since all that polluted air just kept trapped in. When I was travelling in Yunnan province (one that right by Sichuan), I came across some Chengdu citizens spending winter times living there to escape from pollution. I guess it is pretty bad during winter season..
To escape the pollution and the weather I bet. In Chengdu right now the pollution is about 160 and the temperature is about 13 degrees. In Kunming the AQI is 43 and the temp is around 18.
Sorry ,,, what is this ???? I'm a little shocked , Really you do have did homeworks before to Chengdu ??? How about Shanghai, Guangzhou and the capital ? wtf , Chengdu??? do you have any ideas about the reputation of this city ???
Itchy Feet on the Cheap Im Kiwi you gotta use your own words,or theyll think you re in my case Aussie, in your case......American.Kiwis understand Canadian ness,we have huge Aussie by us!
No offense, but for the life of me, I can’t come up with 1 reason why I would move to China. The only countries lower on my list would be India, Pakistan and Bangladesh not necessarily in that order. I tend to prefer countries where the environment won’t kill me...
They're closing down coal plants. Using more renewable energy. They're also experimenting with air pollution removal techniques, which doesn't reduce the pollution being produced, but it just breaks it up and dissipates it.
They allowed a chemical factory to be built in Chengdu, releasing a shit ton of pollution. When people gathered in Tianfu Square last winter to protest the pollution, the government shut down the area as a means of 'damage control.' One thing I have to give the city credit for is expanding its subway system, taking it from 'good' coverage to 'very good' coverage. Now there is even a subway line straight to the airport, eliminating the need to catch shuttle buses and conforming to their schedule.
Yes. I'm impressed with the subway and its continual expansion. I should probably do a video about it, but by the time I finish shooting and editing it will be outdated.

I talked to friends that are locals about it in the 3 years that I lived there and most said it was getting worse.
yes, I think it's getting worse especially in northern China. a huge consumption of coals in winter,,, the title of world factory is not a joke.

I moved from Chengdu to Canada because of this... If Chengdu does not have this problem, it would be a near perfect city. So sad.
Very objective video and nice suggestions. Not like some channels just keep mocking the local Chinese and cursing China all the time to please those anti-China haters and make self feel superior.
Thanks. I hate anti-China videos, but I also like to tell it like it is - even if it's negative.
Depends where you are , some Chinese indeed need to be cursed , I'm for. Chengdu
I'm going to be in Chengdu for Peace Corps next year (the PC headquarters in China is there) so thanks for the info! This will be very useful to me.
We were doing intensive outdoor sports with 190 at an event not to long ago. Sure made me feel dizzy first two days!

I think it's a good time to be in Chengdu, but we probably won't stay for more than a year or two.
Hello ? Excuse me ? What are you talking about ? What's you on ?
Wow 60 bucks for that is amazing. I'm sure if one paid like 200 it would be even better. When I was in China I found I adapted quickly with no mask. That's true, but it's the cancer I worry about.
@@itchyfeetonthecheap Can't disagree. Wearing the mask is worth it I just find them annoying on my face haha.
God that is so sad, thanks for the vid man it's helpful

I came to Chengdu in the summer of 2016. The pollution was somewhat bad that winter, but it has gotten worse.
Itchy Feet on the Cheap Wow almost the same time to Chengdu. Have fun there!
Great information! We are moving there this August and I'm happy to see a positive reaction to chengdu.
I think you'll like it. Have you been to China before?
Never. I am an American expat living in Brazil now. My husband is Brazilian. Brazil was a wonderful adventure, now I'm excited to work in China for a while . I have a two year contract in Chengdu. We are very excited.
Will you be teaching? If so, what school?
Leman International School - I will be an administrator
Good for you. That's a good school. I've enjoyed watching them lose to our basketball team a lot. 🙂
Is it safe for hollydays for étrangers ? What about the criminality ?
Completely safe. One of the safest places I've lived.
Now summer has came! Just got back to chengdu from nyc
It's been so hot in Chengdu lately. I bet NYC is just starting to get nice weather.
Do a tour of one of the many chinese "ghost cities"
vlog about smog = vlmog
Our air is never better than Canada. You know the population of chongqing is close to Canada. The air in Beijing is very bad, but life expectancy is 82 years
Are you still in Chengdu? I'm headed there on Aug.21, 2018
Yep. I usually go away for the summer though. Are you just visiting for a little while?
I really wouldn't believe a phone app that claims to read air pollution.
Well, the app isn't reading the air pollution - some kind of device does the reading and the app just reports it. I question its accuracy too, but it's the best thing we can go on.

Chengdu is terrible. Too many cars and pollution and construction all in the name of progress
But if you're a foodie it makes up for all that.
The pollution is actually pretty good compared to other cities in china.
That's true, but it's getting worse.
I was there the end of December the pollution was gross, worse than Shanghai
I think December is one of the worst times of the year for pollution in Chengdu.
污染我赞成 不过关于smog 我建议你了解一下 蜀犬吠日 shuquanfeiri 大雾和污染没关系 不过冬天成都空气真的挺差的

Yes. I hope it's over.
Ah yes, the winter of 20160. One of the worst.

Thanks! I'm glad you used the Canadian terminology.
Itchy Feet on the Cheap Im Kiwi you gotta use your own words,or theyll think you re in my case Aussie, in your case......American.Kiwis understand Canadian ness,we have huge Aussie by us!
Canada has a reputation for being friendly and polite, but Kiwis might be even friendlier. Maybe being next to a big powerful country humbles us.
U must know that I'm Canadian beer rant ad.
get out of there. it will give you respiratory problems later in life
No offense, but for the life of me, I can’t come up with 1 reason why I would move to China. The only countries lower on my list would be India, Pakistan and Bangladesh not necessarily in that order. I tend to prefer countries where the environment won’t kill me...
Most of the time, it's not so bad. There are plenty of good reasons to move to China. You'd be surprised how nice it is here.
Thanks for your informative comments! I almost moved to China but thankfully I didn't!! Moving to Burundi instead ;)
What is the government doing to reduce air pollution in the country?

My mucus turned brown in China, gross
But it tasted like chocolate, right?
Mine got black in Shanghai, the first city I visited in Asia, after coming from the Far West.
为什么这么严重的pollution你还要住在中国,为什么不回你家呢?
The wolf will not cause Chengdu pigs any harm; he huffed and he puffed and he's now 'bought the farm'.
中国的空气的确不好,但慢慢会改善的,希望在中国开心
Sure, you cover your face but what about your skin?
You just turn into an old potato. No big deal.
