Welcome to Chengdu. The place you visit at the beginning of the video is the place I pass by when I go to work every day. By the way, the old man who shaved you lied to you. From a psychological perspective, addiction to spicy food can be seen as a fascination with calculated risk-taking. It's the sense that you recognize the danger but believe it's manageable, and successfully navigating this risk provides a sense of thrill and satisfaction. This is a key reason why people become addicted to spicy food.😊

There are many varieties of chillies in China; some we use for the hot and spicy taste, and some we use only for their aromatic fragrance. In Chinese cooking, we infuse a lot of spices, herbs or chillies in the oil, like the fried rice you had, It appears rather simple, but the oil they use to fry might have already been infused with many different herbs and chillies that's what give it the unique falvour

Hi, Jack, have you eaten? This greeting is generally used in the north, but in the south, this greeting is generally not spoken. When people hear this sentence, they feel a little strange. In fact, you only need to say, 你好, that's enough.
@@quietlivesNot only in Beijing, but also in a lot of places. The only problem is to say HAVE YOU EATEN to strangers. People usually don’t salute to strangers in China.
Hey! Thank you for the advise, I am always learning so I will try to remember this when I am not in Beijing! If you went to Beijing would you use this phrase?
Bro,When I go to Beijing to talk to strangers, I won't use this phrase. It is a very old way of greeting. Some elderly people in northern China use it occasionally, but young people nowadays basically don't use it.
Thanks for the great video! Just want to point out that "chi le ma" as "how are you" does not always work in all parts of China. It's mainly used in northern part of the country and is not actually a thing in south west especially Chengdu. I hope you have a good time in China and look forward to more content from you
Thank you very much! I’m glad you have enjoyed the videos, hopefully they get shared out a little bit more and more people can enjoy the video too!
Absolutely love you to, great video xx
Thanks Rachel! You should definitely visit Chengdu! You'd love it like we did!
I wouldn't be able to visit, but it's ok you guys make me feel like I've been. I can't wait for more places that you visit xx
Nice! I just learned how to cook the pepper chicken two days ago and I am watching you two enjoying an authentic one. Way to go Jack and Paige!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this! Thank you very much. HWTL

I laugh to tears.😂😂😂You are so open mind! Awesome.
hahahaha I'm glad we made you laugh! Which part was your favourite?
Welcome to Chengdu. The place you visit at the beginning of the video is the place I pass by when I go to work every day. By the way, the old man who shaved you lied to you. It was actually 3 yuan, but you said 30 yuan, so he also said it was 30 yuan. You should find a regular and larger barber shop.
I don't think the old man listened clearly what Jack said. And I didn't see how much Jack paid finally either since the payment part was not recorded. So it's hard to tell.
Welcome to Chengdu,Jack!I was just recommended about your channel and very glad you've come to my city!My friends and I very appreciate your views about this city!成都欢迎你!
Thank you very much! Do you think we did a good job showing your city? Is there anywhere you recommend we should check out next time!
@@JackAynsleyTravel Yes definitely!Your experience here is absolutely local and brilliant!I don't dare to try ear cleaning actually. From my point,I recommend you Dujiangyan(very important water project for Chengdu since ancient times) and Qingchen mountain nearby.
The closed tower area is actually the pub area, you guys should go there at night🎉 the shops there opened from midnight to morning😂
I wish you could meet your fellow Countryman Jason!

We're here for an adventure and things will get harder than enjoying a day in the sunshine in Chengdu haha. Its a great country for an adventure tho, so many places to see!

The area surrounding the Sky Tower, called 339 due to its height of 339 meters. And also a place bustling with bars that only open at night so that’s why there’re no people at day time

Thank you for the good explanation.
Oh wow I've never thought about it in that way! That's super clever! 🌶️
Wow. This is interesting! Never saw it that way.
Spicy food stimulates dopamine secretion
兄弟,你说的太对了!
You guys gone through so many things in just a half day, love it, many places you pass through will start open and fill with peoples after late afternoon or early evening, you probably will surprised those people came out of nowhere, but that is the real life of Chengdu People, they love the night life, after work go out to restaurants, shopping, play et al till midnight, every day.

I'm Chinese, and I think Jack's Chinese pronunciation is better than that of many Westerners.
你好 吃了吗😂😂
There are many varieties of chillies in China; some we use for the hot and spicy taste, and some we use only for their aromatic fragrance. In Chinese cooking, we infuse a lot of spices, herbs or chillies in the oil, like the fried rice you had, It appears rather simple, but the oil they use to fry might have already been infused with many different herbs and chillies that's what give it the unique falvour

delicious “hao chi” (好吃) is the standard way to pronounce it. But in our sichuan dialect, it’s “hao ci”. So when people speak mandarin with that accent, it might confuse you a bit.
Ah yes that did confused me definitely haha. I'm sure as we travel through the country I will face more dilemmas like this!
In the end, the girl was not going to teach you how to eat. She wants to provide the service so that customers do not have to do that themselves. This type of service is provided in some restaurants.

I am a Chinese audience, nice to meet you Jack. I have loved watching Premier League matches since I was young. I am a fan of Manchester United's 92 Golden Generation, and I like Ferguson, Beckham, Giggs, and Scholes. They have accompanied me as I grew up. The jersey you wear is Newcastle, right?🤣
Hi, Jack, have you eaten? This greeting is generally used in the north, but in the south, this greeting is generally not spoken. When people hear this sentence, they feel a little strange. In fact, you only need to say, 你好, that's enough.
Actually mostly used in Beijing
@@quietlivesNot only in Beijing, but also in a lot of places. The only problem is to say HAVE YOU EATEN to strangers. People usually don’t salute to strangers in China.
Hey! Thank you for the advise, I am always learning so I will try to remember this when I am not in Beijing! If you went to Beijing would you use this phrase?
Bro,When I go to Beijing to talk to strangers, I won't use this phrase. It is a very old way of greeting. Some elderly people in northern China use it occasionally, but young people nowadays basically don't use it.
Ni hao is ok
Thanks for the great video!
Just want to point out that "chi le ma" as "how are you" does not always work in all parts of China. It's mainly used in northern part of the country and is not actually a thing in south west especially Chengdu. That's why you don't get very good response from people and younger generation will probably be confused if they hear that😂
Simply say "ni hao" works all the time.
Just curious, were you drunk after drink Baijiu with Beijing locals. It was some unique experience for foreigners. Like your video mate. Keep it up!
Yeah haha, I drank over half the bottle🤣 but my Beijing friend said he wouldn’t even be drunk after the whole bottle🤣 how much would you have a to drink haha
The TV tower you went to used to have a revolving restaurant, now it's closed. But at the bottom of the tower is the best nightclub in the whole of Southwest China, and it's only after dark that the place gets packed. It's full of young, drunken people.
Oh that’s amazing! When did that close, we would have loved to have visited! We should have gone back at night time to see what the area was like! Have you been to that nightclub before?
@@JackAynsleyTravel The night clubs in Chengdu/Chongqing/Changsha are for more fun than ones back in London, just go and enjoy.
@@JackAynsleyTravel
Chengdu is also famous for its bar culture.
In fact, there are three streets near the TV tower that are very well known, so you can look them up on a map.
According to my personal opinion:
For people over 35, you can go to Bine Eyes Brige(九眼桥), which is right on the river, next to the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, so there are a lot of amateur singers or undeclared singers working there. It's a live beer bar and lounge bar.
The 25 to 35 year old crowd can go to Lan Kwai Fong(成都兰桂坊), which is actually right across the river from the Nine Eyes Bridge(九眼桥), and is very avant-garde in style and for all types of people. There are nightclubs, clubs, cocktail bars, lounges, Chinese beer bars, and places to watch soccer games (there are even bars for the LGBT community, the most famous being Revolution Cocktail).
The under 30 crowd prefers to go to 339, the same TV tower you've been to. Unfortunately the revolving restaurant has been closed for two years now, but there are a very large number of bars on the ground level, locally called: “Chengdu 339”(成都339), which skews towards a much younger crowd.
I'm getting older and the last time I was there was 6 years ago. I just remember like BEARBAR: Er Ma (贰麻酒馆), Peach(TAO桃), CLUB:SPACE , DANCECLUB , MOOP , PLAYHOUSE , DNA……

so nice you can speak a bit Chinese to communicate with the local, but we seldomly say "你吃了吗?Have you eaten?" in recent years, it's kinda a very old way to say hi when most people were poor and short of food. "NiHao" is just enough to say hi to everybody.
