    I'm showing you all a perfect example of just how rapidly China is changing. It's mind boggling the speed at which China is racing into the next thing. In my little area of Chengdu called Niuwangmiao, there used to be an apartment building, and one day, I came by, and it was boarded up. The next day, the building and rubble was gone. The next day, an entire park was there! I couldn't and still can't get over how fast that park sprang up. The Chengdu metro is another great example. China is never finished!! Things are never done here

    Yeah, I remember when they decided to rebuild a bridge close to me. I thought it would be horrible. I expected months of horrible traffic. Nope, it was a giant brand new bridge in like 6 days. They worked 24/7 all day and night to build it. It was insane how every day I could go see how much it had grown. Or when I go to parts of the city I used to live in and half the area is different lol. China just moves so fast..

      A bridge in Beijing has been built just one night. Bejing people didn't know until saw the news the next day.

      LOL, I've seen times in America where when a bridge goes bad they just close it for months and make people drive around before they even start tearing it down.

      I guess the ministry of commerce , national defence and CIA of the United states are just straightly stupid for worrying about the rise of China.. Lolll.... *We chinese are actually working on a down spiral, regressive, chaotic, deteriorating process* . I guess SerpentZA is the only one telling the world the truth with a highly sensible analysis about China/Chibese lolll...

    I agree. China is a rapid changing country. You have to live there, work there for a good couple of years to understand it. I disagree with ADVCHINA that "China is in a chaotic cycle". On the contrary, China is improving rapidly. But, for rapid reform and growing in this magnitude, some temporary, regional chaotic situation is not avoidable. But we Chinese know we on the right track since the quality of lives, social security, social order, education level, people's manners etc. are improving so fast.

      A glass is always half full or half empty. Americans (white people in general) like their privacy and silence instead of constant construction. Of course they love going to the mall and watch movies, just don't build it in their neighborhood.

    Austin, This is an excellent video and you make a point about China’s efficiency and work ethic that can’t be over emphasized. As an older American I sometimes get irritated with negative statements about China from people back home. We have trouble accomplishing much of anything these days. We need to acknowledge our limitations and learn from China.

    If ADVChina or serpentza were to do a video on this park, their take on it will be "This is just a cynical and tokenistic attempt by the Chinese by demolishing yet another soulless concrete flat and replacing it with a park to show that they care about the environment".

      It is prime example of America’s inability to achieve much anymore. A couple years ago the projected cost was twice what it would cost in Western Europe and almost five times what it would cost in China. If California is serious about building a high speed train, it should acknowledge that the engineering and construction expertise doesn’t exist in the U.S. and contract with an international construction firm experience and expertise.

    Our lives are like those beautiful cherry blossoms. Life is so short. Even if we can live 100 years old, we have only 36,500 days left for us.Your current age is like the moment when cherry blossoms are blooming. It is the most beautiful time in your life. You should cherish your grasp and make your own life meaningful because such flowers cannot be opened for a long time.Once the flowers fall down,you can never find it again.Please cherish your beautiful life.

    near me in Ottawa there was a pedestrian bridge being built over the airport expressway. .. They wanted a unique design. . so it ended up being 3 years late and several million over budget. . and involved the first build being deemed unsafe and demolished and rebuilt. . and the first contractors going bankrupt. We also have a light rail line that was supposed to open some stations early spring but they remained sill very much under construction. So yeah stuff happens very slowly. . costs way way more. . and workers here make a great living and get every perk and overtime pay.

    The parklet is a temporary park, there's a sign. Usually after a building is demolished and before anything new is built, cities will put on a parklet. There are trees growing in the suburbs which could be transplanted into the city parks when needed.

      That's exactly what I wish it is. If that's a permanent park, I will be very disappointed by the quality of it. You can clearly see that the ground is uneven, the green patching is not nicely done. This just shouldn't be China's quality, at least on public construction & architectural wise. I will not feel happy if the park is for permanent use even if it is done fast. It's a great relief to hear that it is only for temporary use :)

Once here in montrose,ca, my son small school church had roof, overnight church's roof was taken apart , next monday, church new roof is put together with no spectacle of work demolition, remodel exist. Also, in foothill, once there was a gas station huge, the next week, it was gone. Empty lot but nobody seems to care about the speed here in California and call it "signs of prosperity" as the neighborhood prefers their bedroom community to stay put as bedroom as it could be.🤷🏻‍♀️

    It keeps things interesting. Part of it has to be government dominance (no environmental impact reports, series 2 soil reports, rubbish abatement, property rights, etc). Just look at how fast the high speed rail network was built. But it’s in tandem with the quiet army of silent workers we don’t see from our Starbucks windows; the unsung heroes of current development here. And you’re right, it’s an awesome thing to experience.

      That used to be the case in America in the early 1900s. No env. agency, no govt. reports, no labor contracts, no nothing. That's how America was build, one difference is that the US did not export so much, they produced for themselves, and that made their currency so strong. China should let their currency rise so their people can consume more of what they produce.

    Mass construction in Chengdu makes the clear sky brought by rain or wind usually lasts less than two days, that's the downside of the rapid urbanization, and it's pretty much the same case for nearly every tier two cities in China.

      @MrTynanDraper 6 лет назад

      Yeah I have to say the pollution got worse in Chengdu since 2008. .. now Chengdu has worst pollution levels than Beijing (The pollution hangs around for longer periods). Beijing air is actually slowly improving.

    • @fu-ruixiong6380
      @fu-ruixiong6380 6 лет назад

      Daniel Tynan Beijing improves her air quality last winter by scarfizing perhaps millions of people's living conditions in the rural area of HeBei. The government simply banned all coal burning activities including people lighting the stove to get warm. The restriction was later lifted to quench massive demostrations from freezing people. And yeah, Chengdu is experiencing even worse air quality than Beijing, the correlation between construction and pollution can be easily seen if you noticed how speedy the underground traffic network is shaping up. Worse thing is, Chengdu is located in a basin, which means blowing the dust away is mostly impossible.

    • @MrTynanDraper

    The question is: is it fast with high quality standard or is it just rubbish?

  • @MickPsyphon
    @MickPsyphon 6 лет назад

    Chinese construction quality is dangerously subpar. They have the worst record in the planet for new buildings falling over, or collapsing in on themselves. Fast isn't necessarily good. Especially when you're cutting corners... and you don't check for quality.

    • @austinguidry2
      @austinguidry2  6 лет назад +4

      Fuck 'em. We don't need them or their one-sided views. If there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's that there's a hell of a lot more going on here than meets the eye. This is a deeply complex country, and people who reduce China to "those fucking commies and their human rights violations" need to grow up and see the bigger picture. Yes, there ARE problems - it's undeniable - but I think China's doing the best it can. A nation of 1.4 billion people isn't easy to run. I could go on, but I think that's probably enough haha

    Yup, Chinese cities move really fast , but did any of those cities people lay a brick? No, all from the hardworking cheap labor bloody cheap labor of millions and millions of villagers. They eat steamed bun or just rice with salty preserved vegetables , have meat occasionally, hardly can afford to eat fruit to save money to raise their kids and elderly in the country. Builders, contractors exploit these people harshly, crudely!

      I know it's hard to believe - that's why I made a video!!! I remember when I passed by the second day and saw the dirt pile where the building was....I was thinking "WOW, that was fast - China really is pretty efficient sometimes!" And I didn't think anything more of it. I see rapid construction being done all the time, so while it was impressive, it wasn't out of the realm of possibility. The 3rd day was the "holy shit" day - I couldn't believe it! I was thinking, "I've GOT to make a video about this sometime" ..... and I did :)

    this is not too fast, China finished 2/3 high speed railways just in 10 years, China just proceed like US before maybe 3 times speed forward..this would be end of China's Gilded Age, you see Chinese starts to care more about environment, China's Progressive Era is coming...

      I am not talking about government project. More like ordinary people project to break the wall without any permits from the government. Most contractor are doing think without permits or some do not even have basic knowledge of construction. or have taken any exam to become contractor in the first place.

      What's going to happen to the park? Tree collapsing? LOL
      As for the contractors who don't know how to build, causing buildings to fall, the Chinese Government will hold them responsible for it 100% and punish them/their company. So I don't think bribery or endangering lives will be that common unless they want to go to jail or get executed.

      recently a lot of illegal building are being tear down in the hutong in Beijing. it seem like the owner never ask for permits. there also a lot of unsafe house being rent out to people. lucky government step in and somehow western call it human right abuse. renting a unsafe house to some one is human right abuse? somehow people always blaam the government, but sadly never the shady public for doing illegal thing. Mine response it not the against government more the public for illegal unsafe underground church ect ect... or not following the procedure and the standaard.

    Its built quickly, but at what cost. There are no osha standards there. Im pretty sure the permits required would be rubber stamped and the consultation process would be zero in regards to what the community wants. Its impressive but also concerning. Was there asbestos in that building? Probably. You cant mitigate asbestos in 24 hours in a building. Thats impossible. So then the question is what is the real cost of moving at this speed. Its much more than what we assume.
