I find it hilarious that everything that is actually made of wood in a house gets painted and covered up so that it doesn't look like wood. Then we take plastic, make it look like wood, and put it all over the floor.
I find these kind of juxtapositions profound. Nice observation imho.
I think there are some deeper reflections to be made from these phenomena.

We bought vinyl for my room and i read that if exposed to high temperatures, it expels toxic fumes. I live in a very hot place so we exchanged it for laminated wood.

This guy made a very good video on almost everything, *but* I don’t recommend vinyl in bathrooms. Eventually the water will mess with it. But real TILE never erodes. Also, vinyl and laminate can’t be perfectly waterproofed the way that tile + Ditra + Kerdi-band corner strips, perfectly waterproofs a bathroom.

scratch resistance ..it has more to do with the last protective layer than anything else. high end vinyl is usually a bit more resistant than laminate .. although you can get a high end laminate which can be more durable than a good vinyl.. the key thing here in my opinion is that vinyl is flexible and has a bit if give to it ..so if something was scratching or fell on it there is less of a chance of damage due to some give and deflection in the vinyl..as well it tends to not 'pop out' as much as laminate because it is more stable under humidity and temperature changes and moves along its joints a bit easier.

Hi! wonder if someone can help - i got an egg white that dried off on amy i think vinyl floor (or laminate) and it left a matte stain or spot. Im worried that it scraped off the top shiny coat of my floor and now i dont know how to restore it? I tried to clean it with all sorts of wood and floor cleaners and its not helping. Help???

As a Master installer, 40 yrs.plus, almost 98% of my clients are installing luxury vinyl plank.Durability, completely waterproof, looks and feels like real wood and is much more reasonable to install than laminate.

I agree also. I'm installing it in commercial applications to include daycare facilities as well as apt complexes, social worker agencies, and churches. You don't need any special tools, a square, a utility knife, to score it and then break it, customers can really do it their selves.

Great video. I believe I have vinyl since the maintenance guy said he’d have to remove half of the bedroom to see if there’s mold growth under the flooring due to it being interlocked?
There’s some bubbling happening towards the edges where the boards connect to the next and I’m afraid there’s moisture (which means there could be possible mold) what would you suggest to be sure there’s no mold without them having to come in and remove half the bedroom floor?

Lvp because it's vynal core and not osb ECT good lvp can legit be thrown in a bucket of water and pulled out in 72 hours ECT and Pat dryed and it looks like you just got it off the shelf.....make sure you get good lvp tho high wear mm thickness and good backing board.
I think laminate flooring is good option, because It resembles the look and finish of wooden flooring or expensive natural stone but costs only a fraction of the amount these flooring would command. Currently i am using the laminate flooring from Inovar Floors Pvt. Ltd and i am very satisfied with the product.
How has it held up? Do you still recommend it? Im trying to decide between the two and i am worried about the water resistance of laminate floors

Thanks for the video. My supplier suggested Vinyl sheet rolls for my floors. They are 2.7 mm thick and look great however I’m worries it may be ripped underneath my metal dining table chairs? Which in this case they are not easy to replace since they are not seperate tiles and I would have to get an entire new roll for the room. Can u pls give ur advise on that. (They Do have a warranty for 3yrs..)

Sheet vinyl is for cheap poonjabi’s. Most people use LVP (luxury vinyl planks). Just being honest!
I am going to put down a floating floor, I have been researching both laminate and vinyl quite a bit. I decided to go with the thick luxury vinyl. I have read too many complaints of laminate getting spills on it causing it to buckle and when you see what the core is made of, what I call fiberboard, it is easy to see why it would deteriorate. I only plan on doing this once and I know with vinyl there is much less chance of having to replace it.

There are high end laminates now with 24 to 30 hours water resistance guarantees. About to get this done this month and picked Aquaguard over the thin vinyl options.
Our LVP floating floors broke in less than a year because a family member needs a walker and wheelchair. The retailers don't tell you about this and the manufacturer hides that information or is not upfront about it. After the damage is done, the say you should not use a wheelchair with such floors unless the are glued down.

MY concern with the vinyl, is with the samples I have of the luxury vinyl, it has a sparkle to it as normal vinyl flooring does. Will that make it look like just regular vinyl flooring when it is laid? I don't want it to look like vinyl. Also I was reading that it can tear easier than laminate - just like normal vinyl can when moving furniture.. I have had pergo for 18 years and it has held up super super super and the only buckling from water is where I had some plants and didn't realize it was getting water on it. Other than that, even though it isn't the 24 hour water-resistant that they have now, it has held up awesome with kids spilling and leaving ice cubes on the floor to melt and dog dishes and all that. One other thing, is I also read that the vinyl is colder than the laminate. Anyway, I am having a tough time deciding and these are some issues I am struggling with. Any help?? Opinions??
Great questions, Lorenda! How realistic the vinyl looks will definitely depend on the quality of vinyl. The higher the quality, the more realistic it'll look to wood. If the vinyl can tear, it probably is an issue of quality. We have vinyl installed in our common area and have not had any issues related to tearing! @@007kash007 ... well I think the dogs make better companions than the carpet. rarely does carpet put you in a happy mood like a dog(s) can; or entertain you like a dog. Are dogs work...yes, and can they be a handful with all the upkeep, pee and poop, yes; but people rarely share photos of their carpet. All carpet does is just lay there, nothing more...
my laminate was put in around 2003, looks ok, has some issues, as my 4 kids grew up on it, the laminate was pretty good quality at the time, but since this is a older home, my floors are not all real level, so had a issue in the 35 ft hall, ( ranch style home, the installer put a cut and piece over it and its been fine. Its just that is time to replace and I'm thinking maybe vinyl if its not too ridged might work on my not level floors better
Calif dad I'm a flooring installer. For the situation you're describing I highly recommend lvp (vinyl plank). Definitely check out CoreTec I highly recommend the CoreTec pro plus and the CoreTec pro plus (E). I install a ton of CoreTec and it's by far the best on the market with a fair price tag!

All flooring is not made the same therefore will have different 'life spans'. It sounds like it is a good idea to update your floors. As Brandon here suggests - COREtec is an absolute favorite for residential areas
@@FlooringInc only thing is , I have laminate now on the floor and a good grade of laminate is about 40 % less than a good grade of vinyl plank, and I would love to keep cost down

I have a dog who has a damaged bladder and has bladder accidents.My lamented flooring is being damaged.I am thinking of getting vynl put over the lamented flooring.
Click vinyl plank should never be installed in high water areas, as if water goes from the wall under the vinyl it will rot your subfloor! It will not breath
Good test... Poor water on your driveway in the hot summer, put a plank on top and the water will evaporate, but under the vinyl plank it won't!
I recommend a glue down vinyl plank around water as the glue acts as a water resistant layer and protects your floor
Dirt flooring is all the rage in LA right now that or concrete. Actualy helps save on heating bills and stays cool on the summer. Kinda cool

You bring up an excellent point about sunlight! This is true for just about every floor type (with the exception of tile). Manufacturers recommend using area rugs and shades in rooms with a lot of natural sunlight. They also recommend changing around your furniture layout about once per year.

Tinting your windows with a UV blocking tint can solve that problem.
..vinyl flooring is slightly more susceptible to sunlight than vinyl ..but nothing compared to hardwood..hardwood is well known for fading .. vinyl can be used in sunlight..it will fade ..but not for a very long time..i would worry more about sections becoming hot too fast and cooling too fast..both vinyl and laminate are susceptible to 'pop outs' in this condition especially if there are some heavy pieces of furniture involved
Here in vegas we put solar screens, it blocks most of the UV rays giving our lvp more life. And hardwood is not recommended here maybe due to extreme low humidity and high temperatures.

LVP stands for luxury vinyl planks, which is what this video is referring to. His description of the core was just a little odd because he said it's solid vinyl when in reality there's several types of cores such as WPC and SPC.
Generally laminate is more scratch resistant and LVP has the benefit of being completely waterproof, some laminates are "waterproof" but still have a wood core that is susceptible to damage in flooding situations. These are the two biggest trade offs to consider when comparing the two floors. Hope this helps!

@@Erumim I'll be honest, I haven't seen any flooring rated as highly as that one. Most LVPs aren't even given an AC rating, which is traditionally 1-5. The product they're selling is rated as an AC-6. I had to do a little research because I didn't even believe it was real lol. This product certainly seems to break the normal trend of laminates being more scratch resistant than LVPs.

Both will fill cold....even wood feels cold but it's the fact if moisture is a factor lvp is the better buy due to vynal core is waterproof vs osb cork ECT in laminate.
for home renovations, I think the quick and least expensive way is to go vinyl

Laminate wouldn't be a good choice for bathroom doe to high moisture exposure. Engineered would be the choice, some are 100% water proof.
You're right! Though they now make 100% waterproof laminate flooring. There is also 100% waterproof core vinyl flooring as well!
Msi.makes great products in the luxury vinyl arena. We're looking to get the msi braly color for our master bath. Its 100%waterproof and easy to.jnstall. two of our bathrooms will get this flooring and depending in price, we may extend it to the rest of our house.

People usually charge by the square foot for labor. I don't know about popping floor, I don't think it really happens unless someone doesn't leave any space around the edge. Or if water sits on it for a long time.

If you're putting it in your kitchen, waterproof vinyl will be your best bet. Go with larger planks to make your house look more spacious.

Hello, both will provide a firm surface - what you may want to do is add an underlayment. This way you are adding some shock absorbency for your joints.
My mother put in laminate floors and I really can’t stand the feel of walking on them. It’s very plastic sounding in my opinion and you can hear the underlayment as you walk across the floor. It sounds like a plastic bag under there. She had this installed through her interior decorator and it was very expensive so I can’t imagine that it was a poor installation or low end laminate.
It sounds like the floor wasn't even. Laminate should not sound like anything is underneath but solid floor. Not an expert in any way but it sounds like the installation was the issue.

You said laminate needs more maintenance but you didn't actually explain why and what you have to do.
Anytime laminate gets a lot of water on it you need to repair the effected planks by replacing them. Which costs money. Vinyl plank on the other hand is water resistant or water proof depending on the quality of vinyl plank. -Guy who does floors for a living.

@@califdad4 that can refer to the thickness of the floor itself. Also there are different thickness on the wear layers. A cheap floor would have a 5 mil wear layer an ok quality will have 8 mil wear layer and then medium to good it 10-13 mil wear layer which is the protective layer.

Solitaire Morales vinyl. Easier to clean and maintain and if there’s damage (unusual because it’s pretty durable), you can just replace the piece that’s damaged. I’m getting vinyl for my new home. We have two huskies and part time inside dogs. (70% inside)

If floating floor, LVP will not hold up as well as Laminate.
Vinyl is the only was to go ! It’s almost scratch proof Laminate can chip if you drop something heavy on it. Just install 900 ft of vinyl piece of cake.
Quickstep laminate is now water proof.
Be honest about laminate bulging with the slightest exposure to moisture. It is a waste of money.

A good clue to a decent product is thickness 12mil is good ...stay away from the thin stuff.👍
Laminate is just awful. I put in laminate 10 yrs ago and they all need to be replaced. Any water not sopped up immediately leaves damage by causing the edges to bubble. Looks horrible. Going the extra mile and getting real wood flooring that can be sanded and refinished. Should have done that 10 yrs ago.

Two important facts not mentioned here, laminate is preferred for dog owners as its extremely resistant to dogs nails scratching the laminate, and vinyl floors offgas significant amounts of toxic chemicals into the air so your in home air quality is severely compromised for quite some time, nasty stuff!
I wonder if this is still true. I have heard stories from years ago... but they have restrictions on the chemicals used in vinyl flooring (in the EU but I expect in the USA as well).

LVP flooring is an oxymoron. And laminate flooring is cheap and plastic looking. I would never install either. Nothing is richer and more beautiful than hardwoods which last forever or a good engineered hardwood
