Do you think you have an amazing mind muscle connection?
Well…here’s a test to find out!
I mention this because too often we’re doing the right moves yet not seeing the results we want.
And it’s because we’re going through the motions with our training, mimicking proper form.
But proper form doesn’t guarantee proper recruitment patterns.
Aka just because a move looks pretty doesn’t mean we’re using the right muscles or seeking out mobility from the correct joints.
And the more advanced an exerciser you are, the more you can easily cheat and compensate.
But this can lead to overload and injury and you not seeing the results of your training you want.
That’s why in this video, I want to take you through a quick test to assess your mind-body connection.
And I want to do this test for an area many of us actually struggle to activate correctly…
OUR GLUTES!
To do this test, you’ll just be performing what seems like an oh so simple move and is an essential basic…
The Bodyweight Glute Bridge.

Thanks so much for providing this worksheet. It’s such a valuable tool!
Great video! Will you be doing this as a series for other muscles? I struggle with a mind muscle connection with back moves. Especially rows.
Boom! And just like that, I have a focus for skillwork this week! During your PU Challenge, I became oh-so-aware of compensations and imbalances. Thanks so much for the tips and the awesome worksheet!
Oh, my butt bridges have always been 100% quads. Of all my muscle groups, my glutes are the hardest to engage. Like, I need a ouija board to make contact- that's fleeting, at best.
Maybe cos I'm short and I've always needed to use extra leg work to step up, keep up and reach things? Who knows..
In any event, these variations are pure gold. I'll try them and maybe get to meet my glutes for the first time- finally!
I love your channel. I’m 53yrs old and working hard to keep the muscle I’ve got and to keep my body fat low. I’m feeling fabulous and your channel is always so motivating to me. Keep up all the hard work. Much respect 🙏🏼
Thank you for discussing this. The mind muscle connection in any exercise is often overlooked. I am always focused and practicing good form but there are some movements when I feel the muscle activation is lacking. I appreciate your focus on the glute bridge to help how we can self assess what we are feeling during the exercise and how we adjust for better muscle activation.
I'm so glad it helps! It is easy to get stuck "mimicking" a movement and not realize we are compensating to do so. Often asking ourselves as we build up, "Where do I feel working?" is that first step in making sure the correct muscles are working!
This video came at the perfect time. I just started to work on this with bridging. I have back pain and tight hamstrings and hip flexors and anterior pelvic tilt. Thanks for putting this video out.
I appreciate all that you have shared, I have had three abdominal surgeries and, I try to engage my core but I actually have no feelings in that area yet feel everything in my lower back could you offer some advice for someone like me. 😀💖
Major AHA! moment for me. Thank you Cori! Team1%!
Maybe this will help my brain in finding my left butt cheek😂👍
Thank you very much Cori. These “how to” videos are really helpful. I had avoided doing this exercise because of uncertainty about my form.
I'm so glad they help break things down to dial in that form!
Everything is connected no??
Brilliant. I identify with this whole mind-body connection and have developed this very well over the years of sport and exercise. But, I went to a whole new level when I hired a personal trainer because of watching you. Thank you!
Great video! I always watch to the end for those cute lil gym pups! Always makes my day to see them and to hear your workout wisdom!
This is so helpful. This is one of the moves my PT gave me for my sciatic pain. I really concentrate right from the initial movement. These tips are great.
I'm going to try some variations. Great advice👍🏾
So key to fix that mind- body comunication to do it right ❤ thanks, 🎉
Great video! Love glute bridges!! I program them in at least once week. I always use a band. I use DBs for weight. I also have done weighted single leg bridges. I actually do film my workouts now here on RUclips. If you wouldnt mind some feedback on form. Love these extremely informative videos! Hope you're having a great day Cori!
Yes! That diversity can be so helpful to target different muscles to different extents 💪
Very nice video!BRAVO!
Excellent! Been teaching this for years! Thanks
YES! So key to assess what you feel working!
