Love how it came out! You have to paint the roof or the rusty water is just gonna run off and splash on everything below. plus it will repel the water off the roof faster without settling on the iron. Like this comment if you think Andrew Should Paint the Roof!!
If the roof doesn't get painted, it will rust through or even de-laminate in time. I'd hate to try finding a pinhole rust point in all those welded seams to stop a small leak in years ahead. All that would take some years to happen though.
I think Andrew should paint the roof. If it was copper it would form a green patina and be stable but the iron will keep on rusting and pinholes will eventually appear on the surface over time. That’s why they paint cars and tractors etc.

The only problem with leaving the roof left to rust, is that when it rains all the rust stains will go on the floors, walls, of the lower floors and walls, making a mess and not very nice to look at.

Hey I watch every video and I believe you are doing a great job. Here’s an idea for your new roof. Instead of steel walls put up glass walls. Check out your local glass installation places and see if they have glass that was ordered for a project that changed and now they are stuck with the obsolete glass. It happens all the time.
Yes, I would vote to prep, prime and paint the roof - prob 2x coats - should make it hold up better - and no rust stains on the ground or on the side of your strong castle!
Also don't forget that a white roof will reflect sun energy back up into the atmosphere, helping avoid climate warming. An even more advanced solution could be to plant greenery on the roof because that will simulate having no building there at all. You may even attract bees and help your local biodiversity and lifecycles.
Period-correct castles used yellow or pink limestone, so if you wanted it to be more castle-like, you could use the yellowish limestone colour and get probably lots of the benefits of having a white roof.

Mustie 1 has an oil mixture that keeps the colour but protects from further rusting. Jenolite is a phosphorus acid compound you just brush or spray on and leave. I have used it on steam railway engines left outside and its great.White vinegar is an eco alternative but not as long lasting.

I noticed that what i do is i mix my 2 dogs food with biscuit and soft pouch food with some gravy so it's not too hard.
You are one HARD WORKING YOUNG MAN !!!.AND YOU DO EVERYTHING PROPER. NO SHOT CUTS. 😎😀
I like the rustic roof, give it a clear matt or satin coat finish to protect it.
Waaay too slippery but a good idea in principle.
@@ruk2023-- There are one pack polyurethane, non-slip finishes available, which are used on ship/boat decks, also various anti slip coatings & two pack epoxy anti slip for metal ramps, etc, so just need to research a suitable product out of the many available.I've done roofs where you applie one coat allow to dry, the apply second coat & while wet sprinkle fine sand on it for addtional grip.
THIS is the coolest thing on the internet!
This is pretty cool too

Hey I watch every video and I believe you are doing a great job. Here’s an idea for your new roof. Instead of steel walls put up glass walls. Check out your local glass installation places and see if they have glass that was ordered for a project that changed and now they are stuck with the obsolete glass.
It happens all the time.
yes
Great Idea.. It's not like he needs any privacy on the side of a mountain 3 stories up..!
Happy birthday Levi 🎂. My dog Max was 14 his back legs went then his back. Levi is looking good for 14!
Lmao why would you say that
Chunk Dechizla , that’s not a helpful thing to say is it ? Use your brain next time Chunk .
You have to paint that roof, you’ll get rust stains every time it rains it will drip everywhere
Yes, I would vote to prep, prime and paint the roof - prob 2x coats - should make it hold up better - and no rust stains on the ground or on the side of your strong castle!
or rust out a bit more and then clear coat
The welds will be the first to rust out.
Glad to see that your doing well !! Stay safe Andrew
What a great project. Roof will heat up. Great roof configuration..im planning a 24 box semi subterranean structure in nw az
Good ol' Levi - Happy birthday, boy. I can see that he's starting to feel the years. And Cody is just so darn rambunctious, you adopted him just in time in my opinion.
I gotta say Andrew, I am a bit jealous of your estate. May Your Majesty live a long and prosperous life.
Thanks for all the entertainment - and an extra thank-you to all your friends who helped you on your home improvements over the years.
This has been a LONG time coming. That must be awesome walking in, being around. What a HUGE difference!
Such an awesome house, and now it really looks great. Congrats Mr. Camarata, and thanks for sharing.

Absolutely Amazing.. Your Drive to do everything that you do completely blows me away. You should be very proud of yourself, keep up all the hard work you do. And keep pounding out all this excellent content.🤙🤙🤙
God job bro!!!! You have done an amazing job on building the castle!!
It has been a pleasure watching the progress of you building this place and what some hard work
and dedication can do when you just DO IT!! Your videos have motivated me to get out there and not only start
new projects but to finish old ones I lost the love for!!
That steel roof must sound awesome during thunderstorms! Well done, Andrew!
I just got home from a long day outside on a rooftop installing aircons, now I get to relax and watch Andrew work at building his castle!
Dude you should get a bigger American flag, you growing castle kinda dwarfs the one you have!
Cheers from Tokyo!
If that was my roof, I would leave it as is.
However I would do a clear coat to seal it.
Awesome 👌 job man.
🇬🇧👍😎👍🇺🇸
God bless Levi for still making it up those stairs, saddest day of my life was when my childhood dog couldn't do stairs anymore. Really hits you how old they are then.
The container castle is why I started watching this channel. I’m always excited to see progress.
I "painted" some rusty exterior steel with linseed oil 20 years ago. It's still intact; stopped progression of rust but kept rusty look.
great idea!! also look at tung oil, I used it on oak but could be well too on rusty steel ... but nothing wrong with linseed oil
Mustie 1 has an oil mixture that keeps the colour but protects from further rusting. Jenolite is a phosphorus acid compound you just brush or spray on and leave. I have used it on steam railway engines left outside and its great.White vinegar is an eco alternative but not as long lasting.
You’re a genius Andrew. Been watching you forever keep up the good work.
Andrew - Thank you for taking time to show us your work. When we meet here - Levi was younger. You clearly had a vision and containers are a marvelous structure to work with. Cheers
Looking good! Next project: elevator/lift for Levi!
Poor Levi. 😑
@@robertgreg7273 I thought the same thing! And he needs some softer food. Andrew is going to have a hard time when he loses Levi. My heart already hurts for him. Hopefully we will get a tribute video of Levi. Labs and awesome dogs. I've had 4 myself.
@@robertgreg7273 Agree. My comments above reflect that something needs to be done to assist the larger dog negotiate the difficult spiral stairs to the next level. Also think about the weight issue of the younger dog as this will be a repeat in the near future
Let's start a *"GoFundMe"*
New sub...... I want a container castle now! Amazing stuff man!!!!!!
This guy is awesome. You too Matt

What an amazing transformation to your shop/home. Happy birthday to Levi. 98 in human years. You’ve given him a great life
That project was so big it took 2 Lab inspectors..
Fantastic job !!!
So tickled to see Levi out and about. Cody is really growing.

Looks great!! The entrance to the castle is awesome.
Greetings from Serbia
Your channel is great, I watch you every day.
Andrew Great job Hard work pays off but skills you have are 1 percent keep up the great work 🇨🇦🇮🇹🇬🇧😎
The castle looks great! Happy birthday to Levi, the inspector.
For the roof, i suggest an epoxy screed or something like that, and you can get one in color too, so you dont have to paint the floor.
Make a cup of hot gravy for Levis bowl, makes it easier to chew for old dogs
DubwiseJunglist yes I think his teeth hurt.
@@ohPokey I agree. I thought about his teeth (and mine) ten minutes ago. He requires softer food than the biscuits perhaps. Certainly no bones for the old chap these days.
Hot water
also work and save any dog from heart disease liver cancer and kidney failure.
The Castle is looking great! The contrast of Cody vs Levi eating was hilarious.
Yeah, you can really tell which one is still growing
And be the way Mr Andrew. You started your live the right way, What is missing is a really good friend that respect your vision and you have to respec hers too. I wish you good heath and enjoy live.
Levi looks good for 14! I'm surprised he can still make it up that spiral staircase! Lol
He is in tip top shape from traveling all of upstate NY.
