    Ok, so I just set my ad spend to the max allowed and I was really nervous BUT I've already tripled yesterdays sales and I'm making a 5x return plus converting at a 2.3% on the ads alone not to mention the extra from circulation. This is awesome! This is honestly the goal I had when I started the shop.
    I should note, I've had my ads running a while and I skimmed it back to my best converters + a few extras I'd like to see moving, but still this is the best I've done. I could totally sustain the shop on just this progress. Thanks again!

      Awesome any Etsy coach will tell you to try to get to Max budget allowance as fast as possible! Of course as long as your top line sales are profitable and you can handle the traffic. You’re competing against people that are spending the most they can so it’s in your best interest to be on the same level as the top people! In theory increasing your ad budget should proportionally scale your store and shouldn’t increase your monthly marketing cost percentage anyway

    I advertise 2 - 3 listings at a time of my best sellers with the best thumbnail.
    My most popular listing has 17k views, 2% click rate and 6.4 ROAS.
    My other listing also has 5k views, 2% click rate, and 13.23 ROAS.
    I generally spend between $2- $3 per day although I have gone up in the past and not seen a big change in sales.
    I'm hesitant to be on the hook for a big monthly/yearly ad spend when my ads do well for such a low price.
    I definitely plan on boosting up ads until December to prepare for the holidays.

    Thanks for the insightful take on etsy ads. You mention ads not being particularly beneficial for sellers in niches with low item stocks, what strategies would you then suggest to grow stores like these?

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  2 года назад +2

      It’s worth testing because even if it goes out of stock you can always put a new product in that listing after it sells out. Essentially the second you launch your listing etsy is judging you and giving your listings a score so if it makes consistent sales that is a really good listing and you can just replace the images with a new item in the same listing

  • @ramemi1752

    Thank you, just starting out with it. Good to have some sense of what to expect and do:-) One question is that, as a starting shop I don't try to compete with the most popular search terms in my niche. But with ads this is perhaps quite fine to do, or not?
    Oops, another question. If I spend lets say 5 dollar per day on Ads, and the ads expenses reach 5 dollar for that day, will etsy than stop displaying my listings from 100% to 0%? Or does Etsy try to distribute the display of your ads evenly throughout the day? In other words, will a 1 dollar per day budget reach displaying your ads 100 times happen as fast as when you spend 100 dollars p/d?

    One metric not discussed here that is high value is "Expected Ad spend per sale" if my conversion rate is 1% and my cost per click is $0.125 then I can expect 1 sale per 100 clicks, meaning that sale will cost me $12.50 in ad spend. If I take my product, subtract my production costs, etsy's fees, and other costs and then subtract another $12.50 how much do I have left. That's the incremental value of that sale. In my shop where my annual revenue is low 5 figures, my average order is $8, my conversion rate is 1.3%, and my cost per click ranges from $0.08 to $0.30 ads do not make sense for me, every sale from ads will be a loss.

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  Год назад +1

      That is great to point out, couple of things, with such low order value i recommend to allow a listing to spend until it’s in the thousands of impressions before turning it off, IF the roas are not profitable turn off for that listing, however it is still in your best interest if you are thinking in the long term game of Etsy and paying more attention to your top line sales.

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  Год назад

      Also note that as you rank your ads in theory should get cheaper but if you are not willing to invest the money you will never know how high that listing will be able to rank and you will be left depending on organic sales. So yes that means going negative before positive. If you do not invest, trust me there are going to be competitors who will and they will out bid and out rank someone who is not spending

    Extremely valuable video! So you kept referring to breaking even/being profitable in the beginning to collect data and using that to better optimize the shop. But my question is…how long do we play that game until our ads are finally making 2X + ROAS consistently? Or does it ever hit a consistent positive ROAS on Etsy? For me it always seems to go back to losing profit. Do you see that with your shop as well?

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  2 года назад +2

      Regardless of the roas on the product overall I am profitable which is what I’m looking for to scale. Every niche is different and if you have not done the steps to fully optimize your listings and do the proper research beforehand you could be negative or if you just are new and I do not have a lot of reviews that could be another factor

    I’ve been running Etsy ads($15 a day) and a 15 % off sale on my new listing for two weeks now and when I go to someones profile who favorited the listing and then press my shop name, it shows you how many people have it in their cart even though I’m running a sale. So I see that everyday people put it in their cart and now it says over 20 people have it in their cart(I’ve only gotten 3 sales so far from ads on the listing and 55 clicks)
    but I was wondering, how many people have to put it in their cart before Etsy realizes that buyers like the listing and that they should show it to more people?

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  2 года назад

      That is a super good conversion rate on only 55 clicks! patience is key with this, let etsy do its thing! having 20 in carts is also awesome!

      @@EcomHannah thank you so much for your reply!!!
      Also, since I’ve been running ads, I noticed that some of the search phrases say high click rate, should I make sure that I have those exact word phrases in my tags?
      And if I do take out underperforming tag phrases and replace them with the high click rate ones, will that set my momentum from the Etsy ads back or will it make it better?

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  2 года назад

      If you are getting a high click rate for certain search terms you should definitely add that until your listing somewhere :)

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  2 года назад

      But be careful with a high click rate search terms if you’re getting a high click rate but not a lot of purchases make sure that keyword is an actual keyword Product Fit and you can check this by Typing
      In the search term and seeing what comes up and if you see similar products to yours showing up then that could indicate it is a good keyword product fit. Sometimes you can use a keyword that gets a lot of clicks but not a lot of sales and that means that when people click on the actual product it’s not what they thought it was for whatever reason.
      But if it is blatantly a keyword product fit do not take it out

    Hi Hannah! Thank you so much for everything! I started my Etsy shop in October after a call with you. I started running ads at $10 a day and it spent through that in a few hours. I upped it to $25 and it's still spending through that before the evening. The budget is mostly spent on the one keyword that directly reflects my product. I am getting sales but my etsy shop is still only 2 months old so I'm not positive my listings are perfectly optimized. Question: Is it normal to spend through the whole ad budget before the day is over? / Should I keep upping my budget?

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  Год назад +2

      It is different for every niche. Some niches won’t spend, but if you’re in a very high search, niche, then it could very well spend the money. I’m a big proponent of spending just so you can rip off the Band-Aid and see what’s working but if you personally don’t think your listings are optimized it’s not really the best bang for your buck.

    No one talks about this, but when I put in say $20, I'll check an hour later and that amount has already been spent! So does that mean etsy won't be showing any more of my ads the rest of the day because the budget limit was met within an hour? I've started putting in a smaller amount early in the day and upping it as the day goes on to try to get ads in front of people at different times of day. Are you selling in the POD space? in these niches because the nature of the business is having many many listings etsy will spend your budget where in other less competitive niches if you have your budget at say $500 it may only spend $50. If this is the case for you I would say only spend on listings that are organically getting the most clicks or sales and start there so your budget is just not all getting eaten. $20 a day is not a lot to really collect true data, that is why a lot of POD coaches say to only spend on already organic selling listings first.

I have a million questions about them now that I've been diving into them more the last number of months. As for advertising only those listings that are already doing well organically, would I even turn on ads for bestsellers that are already on page 1 of search? And which keywords for each listing do you turn off? If you're getting tons of clicks under one listing for the keyword "mug," do you leave that one on even though it's so broad and generic? Or is that eating up ad budget since it's not very specific? I really appreciate how thorough you are with most of your videos compared to other etsy coaches.

      100% on the right track 19 sales out of 400 clicks in most industries is really really high that’s like a 4% conversion rate. If you’re just starting out breaking even is really winning in the beginning and you want to get to your max budget allowance as fast as possible to get reviews and social proof on your listings. As long as you’re breaking even on your top line sales not on what Etsy is telling you you’re ad spend is making you, if your top line sales are either breaking even or profitable scale up as soon as possible

      I would say if your a new store and you have no reviews you may need to spend more and go negative first, let the ads run for at least 2-4 weeks if your a new seller to see which listing make sales and which don't, turn off the ones that are not making sales. Depending on your price point turn it off at 50, 60 , 70 what ever you are comfortable loosing with the listing having no sales. BUT i would say do not even touch ads if you did not do the proper research & development and listing optimization first.

    a couple of questions -
    1. there are about 8 listings at the bottom that have taken up my ad budget (not much), but no conversions. should I turn the ad off for them so it goes towards the listings that have a few conversions?
    2. I have sold a few of each of these listings within the past month, but it seems that none of the sales came from the advertisements. If I turn the ads off for them, do you think this will have any effect on their performance outside of the ads?
    Thank you!

    • @EcomHannah

      Couple of noes 1. $10 a day is a very low budget, if you keep it that low you really need to let it run for a month or so before collecting enough data to change anything 2. always look at top line sales after vs marketing spend not "how much your ads made you" 20%-40% is normal amount to spend on total sales when you are first starting out and trying to grow. 3. if a listing is just eating your ad spend with 0 Roas and 0 ATC and 0 organic sales only then turn it off in the beginning but really needs to spend and uncomfortable amount before you kill it . (its hard to tell without understanding your business model)

      There is so much more its just hard in a comments section I would really need to see the inside of an account to diagnose what I would do in your situation, every business margins are different and require different expectations. I can give broad over views in these videos but as far as when or when its sufficient to kill an ad depends on what your selling

      If you keep putting it to the max it will get increased by etsy faster

    Hi Hannah, I run google shopping ads for my Shopify store and they do really well for me. I’ve been reluctant to turn on Etsy ads for my Etsy store because I feel like it might divert sales and traffic from my Shopify store. Any thoughts on this? Thank you so much 😊

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  2 года назад +1

      Nooo it will not, etsy ppc will hone in on traffic from etsy, google traffic is much much different source! If you are profitable on etsy as Is I encourage you to start test ppc

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  2 года назад +1

      It’s 2 completely different sources of traffic it is veryyy rare that the 2 would cross paths unless your product is super super specific

    Hi Hannah, would you recommend spending the max budget ($25) on £5 digital items?

    • @EcomHannah
      @EcomHannah  2 года назад +2

      When you are first starting out you will go more negative than most because your price point is so low. But as you gain rank things will change. I would say spend what ever you are comfortable with put max budget and as sales start to come in begin to up it as much as you can as fast as you can (Obviously making sure you did the listing optimization and product research before you run any ads)

      @Hannah Gardner it's okay!! I shouldn't of said anything I was having a frustrating day and somehow the audio of the banging and tapping was just adding to my already down mood. I'm sorry I even brought it up honestly it wasn't meant to intentionally bring you down. I really enjoy your videos and honestly had a break down like 2 days ago and ur pep talk for new sellers really helped ! So I shouldn't of even said anything and nobody else seemed bothered so Maybe it's just something on my end. Either way I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today clearly and shouldn't of commented. IM SORRY!! I appreciate you're videos I should've just found another one and moved on with it 🤣

    I really don't mean to sound like I'm hating but as per the type of content you make and your target audience your language is a little overwhelming I mean you're using kpi's, conversion rates, high ticket sales like man, just make it simply specially since you're trying to reach people that are on the learning curve or not even there yet, you probably have a solid digital marketing or e-commerce foundation but people need to be briefed in really the simplest way possible in order to understand a concept better and I feel like that makes your videos really hard to follow cus at some point u just go. Ugh, what is she even saying and I say this because i did understand most of what you said but I know for a fact the majority of your target audience won't.

      Hey, no worries at all. I like this feedback I will definitely keep it in mind I never got a comment like this before so it’s good to know! I normally will define the jargon if I say things like that. Probably did a poor job in this video. I have to say most of the people that reach out to me are more advanced and serious sellers, which I don’t mind I don’t really consider myself speaking to people people looking for get rich quick or side hustles.
