THE GREATEST FAN GAME OF ALL TIME

- Super Mario All-star Attack is one of the most amazing projects I have ever had the pleasure of playing. When trying to figure out what to talk about this week, this game actually had me excited to make a video because it's so well made, I can't gush about it enough. Plus not too often you see Mario fan games that get this far into production.

This video is AMAZING! Wonderfully developed, Garrulous, thank you so much for covering this fan-game that I've been leading for a very long time! Honestly if it wasn't for ~CaMtEnDo~ pioneering this project over 12 years ago, we wouldn't even be where we are today.
Just to clarify, the plot of ASA is more-so inspired from Super Mario RPG, since the Star Shards look just like how they are from the game, with the exception that all of the colors of the shards are based on the Chaos Emeralds from modern Sonic.
A second thing to clarify is that when you accidentally stumble across the Minus World, the only way to actually escape is by finding a hidden pipe within one of the levels that takes you back to World 1. It's a pretty easy find because it references the Warp Zone from the original Super Mario Bros.
Lastly, for those viewing the video, this fan-game was made using Game Maker. It is not a ROM hack by any means. It also has the potential to be modded graphically, and later on in development, we may make the game be able to have its music fully customizable.
That being said, once again thank you, Garrulous!
I'm glad you liked it! I'm still having a great time playing, and darn i didn't even think about the 7 star shards from SMRPG. There are so many star shaped collectables (Star Spirits in PM64/Bowser steals the Star Rod from Star Haven), Crystal Stars, etc. But hey, always glad to see RPG representation.
I definitely saw the Geno doll in Toad Town also, i just regrettably forgot to mention it here. Same with Waluigi, looking forward to seeing that Casino of his eventually!
This is literally the first time I've ever seen someone mention the faster upwards swimming in super Mario world.
Like I already knew it existed, but it was just one of those things that I know about, but I just never see anyone mentioning it, and actually hearing someone mention it is just... So weird.
I like how minimal, but effortful the backgrounds and visuals are in general, thats actually a very delicate balance to strike. Great work to the devs for that.
Oh yeah I have an eye for detail! I've been the only person developing custom backgrounds in the game.
I love how it all fits in seamlessly with the reused SMAS graphics
1:46 I mean, understandably so, if you stare at absolute perfection too long you start to feel bad about the slightest of your own imperfections without an iron will.
For many years I’ve known about this fangame myself, not only had I acknowledged it like a legitimate sequel to Super Mario All-Stars, also as if…..
This could had been if Super Mario Advance were to be an original game rather than remaking any of the previous games. Heck, even the head director of this project agreed with my statement of that.
Very decent review! Although had this been from Nintendo themselves, I doubt Sonic would had been there, along with other non-Nintendo contents.
I haven't gotten around to playing this one but as someone who loves 2D Mario this seems right up my alley. I'll give it a go one of these days when I have the energy to play games again
I know that this game is in an indefinite hiatus, maybe a year, with 7 out of 9 worlds completed, plus the Minus World.
This fangame is really ambitious and worth a play, so many levels and stuff to do!
It was made with Game Maker 8.2 (mod of 8.1).
You can also make your own graphics, players, and BGM/SE, too!
How can u make ur own players?
God dang I may try and play through this on the Steam Deck! Great video mang!
Thanks Spencer! If you decide to get it on the Steam Deck you're going to have to map the F4 Key to something on your deck to get the game to go fullscreen. Otherwise it won't launch properly from your Steam Library (but should work fine in Desktop mode though i think controls get messed up in Desktop sometimes)
This game is just so criminally overlooked.
While I'm not a fan of the in between physics and some control choices, this is just such an incredible project. Probably the single greatest Mario fan game.
yeah the controls take a bit to get used to
Might play this just to try out more of Wario land 1's moveset combined with his later moves and new ones
2:13 He found it in Candy Constipation from Kirby in and the amazing mirror.
I couldn't be bothered to spell the word that means star pattern.
Candy Constellation lol!
@@Mikeystar45 YES! Candy Consolation! That's what I meant!
Aite you sold me, this is probably the greatest 2d mario fan game of all time, I hate that I have to go to work now, take my sub
This definitely looks like a good game. Hope to see more!
Between this and Mushroom Kingdom Fusion I feel like I got just as large a Mario fix as a Sonic fix this year. Fallen Star was absolutely amazing too, SAGE was great this year!
Assuming you've played Sonic Boll, which of these two fan games do you prefer? To me, they both seem to be 2D Mario tributes featuring Sonic characters; though I feel Boll goes all in on customization while preserving the classic physics and level layouts, whereas All-Stars creates something new by combining the best parts of the franchise. I can't choose.
Allstar Attack is my favorite. Sonic Boll is great, but ASA is the Mario Adventure i've been wanting for a long time
Honestly I've been trying to get this running but my computer doesn't let me copy and paste files so I've had to add the files in one at a time so I might not be able to play it anytime soon. But still this is a cool video!
been shilling this game for years so I’m glad to see someone else acknowledge it
this looks so fire holy shit, thank you I need a new game to play man.
This looks like a tribute with genuine love and care into it! Always funny how there's non-Sonic game being shown at SAGE
SAGE has a lot of Non-Sonic games. I coulda played all non-Sonic stuff to fill my 6 hours of streams pretty much lol
That honestly sounds like a fun challenge. "SAGE 2023 Showcase but it's all the non-Sonic games"
Hey G.
Wanted to pop in and say that you could switch to Mario full time and I’d still be popping in.
Loved this one, gonna have to check it out
That means a lot, thank you 😃
How do I get Sonic?
The game is fun, tried it out myself. I'm trying to complete the game still.
For some reason one of the .DLL files keeps running into an error everytime I try to copy it. Is there any way to fix that?
This game is pretty much the Mario equivalent of Sonic Mania
5:17 Is wario land 1 the Gameboy one? Because I many many years ago, my earliest memories consist of playing and then loosing that game, or some other Gameboy wario game if there is any.
Wario Land 1 and 2 are on the Gameboy.
@@Garrulous64 Oh ok, so I did play Wario Land... I probably won't know if it feels accurate myself as I haven't even seen the game in years.
What If Super Mario All-Star Attack in SNES
This is really cool but how do I enter fullscreen or a least a bigger resolution cause the default windowed resolution is like the size of a Gameboy screen and you can't drag it out.
F4
@@Garrulous64Thanks!
@@Garrulous64 on my pc f4's function is to increase brightness on the desktop sooo i guess i have to play in small screen mode :P
@@Garrulous64 Thanks man.
Have you played the extended demo of Midas Machine?
Yep, Midas Machine is amazing. Too bad it hasn't updated for like 8 years.
Wait what do you mean Extended demo was there a new demo
how do i open the game
If I had a computer I'd be all over this sh*t
I made the grave mistake of going into minus world, help, how do I escape this hell
Uh look at my pinned comment at the top of the comment section? Lol
@@Mikeystar45 thanks
reminds me of super mrio boll
Still waiting for the Sonic advance 3 review
but
he did it
The thing that ruins this game for me is the fact you can't save normally.
That is a big issue. Usually though, teleporting to a town with the level select will prompt a save.
heres to hoping this game gets finished before they start having problems with nintendo
Oh so like sonic boll but without the weird name and I assume more gimmicks
Yes and no? I mean this game has been underrated for a very long time. The game's been in development for over 12 years
I love it!
Question btw does sonic have drop dash you know the op move we all know is best move 2nd place insta-shield idc fight me but anyway back to drop dash is it in there?
Actually no, Sonic doesn't have the Drop Dash. Sonic was developed before Sonic Mania came out, so he's more so centered on the Genesis and Master System titles.
Hey dude
Play tale of the cursed chain.
Fan Game
Please Nintendo! Please pull a Sega and hire them to make a new 2d Mario game!
Lol
??.
This game looks amazing
I NEED TO DOWNLOAD THIS B4 NINTENDO FUCKS IT OVER AND KILLS IT
The heck? My reply to my other comment keeps getting auto deleted so I'll try leaving a new one.
Yes, Midas Machine has an extended demo that is much longer than the first. I recommend playing it for the first time on your channel. Not sure if it's the link for some reason that's causing it to be deleted, so I'll just tell you what it's called on MFGG. It's one of the many games in the "MFGG 20th Anniversary Time Capsule", so just search that and you'll get it.
Oye! You must play this! For some reason when I try to link it, RUclips auto deletes it.
Where is the demo hosted? I can look it up
@@Garrulous64 MFGG. Look up "MFGG 20th Anniversary Time Capsule". Should be the first result. I'd save your first impressions for the video.
I found it. I'll consider streaming the pack of games. Could be fun!
@@Garrulous64 Sweet! I'd personally recommend skipping right to Midas as not only am I sure you've played the rest already, but Midas is the main attraction there with the most new content.
yahoo!
As usual, people are going to say something like "thank you for this wonderful video", "LOL so funny", "I love this", or "First" 10 seconds after release just to get a comment in.
Yea, you have problem man?? 🤨🤨🤨🤨
It gives our dude engagement, so who cares?
That is true, i just don't look at the first 6 or so comments
@@Garrulous64 this All Star Attack game is the best it features many enemies like SMB2, SMB3, SMW, SML, SML2, Yoshi's Island, Kirby, Sonic, Wario Land, and Mega Man
the sceen is small

@@lukesadventureland8827 hey, where is the link of this game?
Have you played Super Mario 63 yet? (It’s a fully complete 2D version of Super Mario 64)
