    I love this game quite a bit, But its length can definitely get exhausting after a while if you're planning on going through the entire thing in one session. My playthrough lasted for about 55 hours across ten individual sessions. So yeah, It's a LARGE game, And the fact that it's STILL in development after all of these years is insane.
    I remember playing it back when most of the levels were filled with frustrating auto scrollers, It's certainly come a long way since that time.

    I kinda disagree with the "too many levels" notion. I personally am enjoying going through every single one of them and always getting excited, when I recognise a level representing a franchise! This game is definitely made for the hardcore gamers, who know their gaming tropes! Heck, I would've loved to see MORE levels from MORE franchises! (but that's just me)
    Here's a tip: If it starts to feel like it's slowing down, take a break and do something else! You really shouldn't be in the "I gotta finish this!" mentality! Play only when you WANT to, play only when it feels fun! I know a lot of you probably don't have the endless patience I do, but if you shorten your play sessions and adopt a "in the moment" mentality, not thinking about how much there is, just going bit by bit. You'll find, that you're actually blazing through most stages kinda fast! I would absolutely recommend this game to anyone, who's a gaming veteran, and knows a lot of gaming franchises in general!

    I remember playing this game back when Version 0.5 launched and I'm happy to see that despite all of the hardships and burnouts from older devs, a lot of people still haven't given up on this game and will make sure it will be completed till the very end.
    I haven't played the recent versions sadly but from my experience there were SO MANY glitches and BS difficulty spikes in so many levels it was nuts. The fact that I completed almost all of the levels from that build still surprises me today. But to hear that so many levels have been rebalanced does make me look forward to revisiting the game.
    Personally I don't mind the fact that the game is super huge. The concept behind this game being a giant adventure through all of gaming means infinite possibilities for level concepts. But I understand why it can get exhausting after awhile. Taking breaks so you won't get burnout is strongly advised.

    This game is pretty good, if you think about it, it's like a tribute to the classic games we used to play all those years as a kid. Adventuring through the worlds of childhood games as famous gaming characters such as Mario, Link, Mega Man, and others, and getting points, clearing stages, and defeating bosses is quite the nostalgia trip, over 10 universes and 200+ levels.
    Kinda like the old flash game "Super Mario Crossover" where you can play the original Mario (or TLL or Special) game as various other gaming characters.
    Also, it's almost complete, contacted the dev on their Discord server and they say that World 0 is the last thing they're doing, after which the game is complete, and they are also releasing the source code after release, so it's open source! It makes fans port the game to better engines such as Game Maker Studio (The OG game is made in Game Maker 8.1).

    • @nickpeck4561
      @nickpeck4561 Год назад

      Also, the devs also was making Super Mario Fusion: Revival, (but it's dead), which is like MFF but more focused on Mario gameplay. It's like a normal Mario game, but with tons of gaming universes in the mix.

    • @names_are_useless
      @names_are_useless 11 месяцев назад

      1. Super Mario Crossover came YEARS after MKF. Likely inspired by MKF.
      2. It's not "almost complete". They're still updating and adding new Levels to current Worlds. They've barely touched World 0. Will be awhile before all is said and done (but they are making daily updates to it).
      3. You are correct about their plans to release Source Code when they're done (for now, it is Closed Source). I keep seeing people mentioning "Porting the game to a New Engine" ... that's going to require a HELL of a lot of work.
      4. They're actually still working in Game Maker 8.1 (with some updated features they'd rather not share). The engine seems to be doing them just fine.
      Honestly, I'm holding out for Source Code being released and would love to try my hand at working on my own Mini Expansion Pack with Material that's been cut, Levels that never got off the Cutting Room Floor and other ideas I've had for years with this game.

    as for sonic, i think he's insanely good because he can hit enemies from below and completely trivialize a lot of levels by just breezing thru them, his handling isnt bad when you get used to it :)

    Good review! Waluigi is playable in the newest version as well. I actually beat all the available levels over the course of a few months. I do agree that the game can be a bit overwhelming with the number of levels. There were some levels that were a bit too much of a challenge and a bit overkill to halt the player's progress (this game throws everything at you in later levels). I agree the Fusion Team should really trim or cut some content to really focus the game a bit more. The game is still unfinished, but I feel like they could cut a bit to make this a more manageable project. I would love to see an actual ending to this one.
    I agree about Sonic and Tails. They were like the only characters I couldn't really play as compared to the other characters.
    If you really like 8 and 16 bit games, you really owe it to yourself to play through this one. Though, I'd recommend turning on *Debug Mode* to skip a few levels as the game does really run a bit too long at points.

  • @randompog8493
    @randompog8493 Год назад +5

    Man what's wrong with a game being long if you're not doing the same 3 things over and over again
    If the games got content what's wrong playing it all, even if it takes a while
    Otherwise I feel like the games gonna be over before you realize it is, and then it's critiqued for being way too short. It feels like a hot-cold thing
    I have never heard of a game being too long when it has interesting things tbh, and for frontiers and other content packed long games I hope they don't get the same treatment. I know they aren't very comparable to this, I've just never heard of that issue and it could loosely apply to frontiers or already existing games
    Can you please tell me what makes a game too long when its as variety packed as this, I don't think I fully understand this issue
    The video probably explained but I'm still at a slight loss. I feel like it wouldn't be a chore if it kept going. There'd always be more available the next time. It shouldn't feel like you have to finish it all at once

    • @Ninetails2000
      @Ninetails2000 Год назад +5

      It's because too much of a good thing can be harmful to the overall pace of the game. As he said, as he was playing through the game he would get to a point where he felt "Okay, this world should be wrapping up by now, right?" only to find that he wasn't even a third of the way done with the world. After a certain point a concept or level theme can overstay it's welcome and get boring, which makes it more and more of a slog to progress through all the levels.
      Thirty levels per world means you're playing an entire fangame worth of content and there's nine worlds in the game. You'd be hard pressed to find any game that can pull something like that off without getting tiresome.
      Part of game development and flow is figuring out how much is too much and when to move on to the next thing. It's cool that there's SO MUCH content but especially if you're trying to see as much of the game as you can in one sitting or just doing a casual playthrough, all of it starts to turn into busywork before you can see the next world, the next boss, the ending.
      It's like if you had a five course meal but each course was it's own meal worth of food. So you have to eat a pile of salad, a pot of soup, an entire slab of steak, a gallon of wine and an entire wedding cake and you can't leave the table until you eat it all. It's all great food but after so much of it, you want to move on to the next thing. You could always stop eating the salad and move on to the steak but then the salad is still there.

    • @randompog8493
      @randompog8493 Год назад +2

      @@Ninetails2000 yeah, I see somewhat. Though i dont think you have to finish it in one go, so I see it as an opportunity to come back for seconds rather than feel like you eat it all at once. And the diners always open for you to order it, and you aren't pressured to finish one whole meal all at once.
      I'm not a huge judge of what is too much or too little, if a game has interesting content I don't care how long it takes me.
      I also get that, it shouldn't be too long so then you can see the new style of content
      These matters must be difficult to judge as a game developer I would assume

      It really needs Cutscenes and Story Points, which the Team is looking to add towards the End (there is a story with this game, but they're already considering cutting out some of the really good bits from it). More varied Bonus Levels would help too (and I know they want to add some).
      The only world I'd consider having "too many levels" is World 1 (Mushroom Kingdom). 44 Levels in Total! The others only have around 20, which feels right. World 5 only has 12. Honestly, wouldn't be upset with World 2 (Alternative Earth) and World 8 (Avenue of Memories) in particular getting more Levels because of the HUGE Franchise Variability these worlds represent (not a single Ninja Gaiden Level even though Ryu is playable).

    I feel like the issue seems to be more on the pacing and less on the amount. 30 worlds with 9 levels each feels more rewarding than 9 worlds with 30 levels each, simply for the factor of each world completion being its own minor celebration that gives more motivation to keep going.
    Actually, that's literally the reason why we still seperate worlds to begin with. We could simply approach it as a huge levellist like those ancient nostalgic mobile and flash-games, but that's just incredibly unappealing. Having several smaller chunks of content is much more approachable and leads to overall tighter pacing.

      One of the big problems is that World 1: Mushroom Kingdom is 44 Levels, and the rest are all around 20. World 1, and all based on Mario Levels, which look mostly the same (except for the Fusion Levels near the end) ... it can feel like a slog compared to the others. Not only are the other Worlds smaller, but most include elements from other franchises, making each of those Worlds feel fresher.
      I wish this project had been planned from the start as a "Franchise Fusion Platformer" as opposed to its original conception of a Mario Game with some other Franchises sprinkled in. Likely would have meant a greater balance in the amount of Levels and Franchise Representation.

    Finally! Somebody talked about this. But I'm going to have to disagree with you. This game isn't long enough. It needs 1000 levels and even that's just being generous.

    So your complaint is that there's too much content?

      I have an idea of where this interaction is going to go, so I'll skip to what I want to ask. Did every world need 20 levels of varying quality? Even in multiple separate sessions, this was too much crammed into one game.

    Your only issue with this sounds like a big non issue. If each world is the size of a single game by itself then treat it as such and don't try to marathon it.

    • @GottaBeFrank
      @GottaBeFrank  Год назад +1

      I disagree with it being considered a big non issue. I've been told by a few that I should play the game in smaller sessions, rather than one marathon, which I did. That's why I had to delay talking about this game. I wanted to give it as much time as I could. Then I became aware of the length of each world. It became exhausting to finish one since some of these levels balloon in length and the number of levels come close to 30 per world. It's great that there's a lot of content, but at what point does it become too much?

    No game can be "way too big". If you ever think that about a game, you lose the right to consider yourself a gamer.

      This is a complete lie. All games have a point to where it's not as fun to play because it'll keep on going. At some point, you gotta wrap it up.

      i disagree, games can drag on for way too long
      like for example isaac repentance is my favorite game of all time but what it asks of you to unlock every item is pretty fucking ridiculous

      I have! I remember the first time I actually got to the "end" of Duck Hunt. I was puzzled when it looped back around to stage 1. I was a kid, I didn't understand at the time.

    If the issue is that there are too many levels but nothing else, then... Stop playing and go do something else and come back?
