Bought the cherry 335. Just changed rusty strings, put graphite in the nut slots and AMAZING. I BOUGHT THE PURPLE ONE FOR 200, THAT WAS PERFECT TOO.

I ordered mine from the factory (so I'd get a gig bag) 2 days ago & can hardly wait for it to arrive.
I've only been playing since the beginning of the year (though I did get a Diploma of Music on tenor sax about 15 years ago) & wanted something electric that I can play acoustically late at night without disturbing my neighbour (she puts up with enough noise from my Harley) but still use when I get good enough to join other musicians. Best of both worlds.
    Interesting video. Thanks for sharing.

Update - It arrived after 3 weeks & 2 days & to be honest, it's difficult to put down.
It has a high 5 fret & the action could be brought down a wee bit but otherwise, it seems pretty faultless to my novice eyes.
I'm going to have a go at filing down the fret (I'm a fitter/machinist by trade) & adjusting the action when I change the strings in a month or 2 (might even change the machine heads) but until then, it seems to play OK anyway.
I've only had it a week & a half but it's kind of hard to imagine life without it. That's the best recommendation I can give.

Got my Grote and lucked out with the red flame top and what a great gig-bag! I had four other guitars at the time (epi LP, Tagima ja3, Peavey generation EXP with piezo and an upgraded squire affinity) and this is one of my favorites. I liked it so much I immediately ordered another Grote tele-style. Both arrived in less than a week with no damage and set up well enough to be playable out of the box. I would recommend Grote to any new guitarist out there.

I picked up a sunburst version second hand for $60.
    Looks Really nice.
Went ahead and changed the pickups, tuners, nut (l always change them to bone) and added coil splitting controls. Also, I refretted it with better Frets because there was a severe "Dent" on the fretboard (and, the fret) at the 12th fret. One thing I noticed was that all the reviews stated it had a 12 degree radius fretboard.
    Not mine!
After installing new frets, I used my 12 degree radius fret sanding block, and it took off way too much metal on the outside edges of the frets. After locating my (lost) radius gauges, I soon found out that mine actually has a more of a 15 degree radius!
    Really strange.
I only hope my nut, and my bridge are of the same.
I have not reassembled the guitar yet so I will definitely make sure.
But, the price was right and I love to work on guitars of all level of quality.

Your assessment is pretty spot on. Mine did not have the fretboard issue, though I did notice that my fingers became black after playing it the first week or so. I believe it's some sort of stained/dyed composite wood, certainly not the African black wood someone describes above. After some lemon oil and playing it until there was no more black residue coming off, I'm happy with it. I found the nut width to be a bit narrow at 42mm, but I like wide fretboards, having played mainly acoustic in my formative years. I'd hope that your opinion of the sound, even of the pickups, was improved by new strings. I like to put at least 10's on this (it came with 9's I believe), and will be trying some slightly heavier flatwounds soon. I'll bet that adds some heft to the overall tone, plugged in and not. Honestly I think yours sounds better than mine acoustically, but that could just be how RUclips compresses sound. Thanks as always for your efforts!

@@AJgeartalk black wood is rosewood or more precisely in the rosewood family........it is not a cheap wood......African black wood is the original ebony.......before the species they call ebony now the Egyptians called African black wood ebony.......Grote guitars is using Burmese black wood which grows in china and is a very expensive hard wood......the white marks you see means the wood is probably dry.....all rosewood fingerboards will get white streaks when dry.....it is in the rosewood family but more in hardness like ebony .....African black wood is 3600 on the janka hardness scale and Burmese black wood is 3400 so harder than even what they now call ebony......so it is a very good wood for fingerboards......it was banned for awhile like all rosewoods until they relaxed the ban......it is one of the top 5 hardest woods on planet earth......

Curious as a newb, why can't you fill the pups with wax?

Ordered this instead of waiting for the Firefly to be back in stock. Did I make a mistake?

Comparable guitars. If you get the padded gig bag with this- it is a better value. Also- pups on the Grote are less microphonic than the Firefly. I don't think you made a mistake.

Both are good guitars. I prefer the thinner neck on the Grote. Personal preference.

Only 8 minutes in but so far what im getting is when mine arrives, I need to throw some grover tuners and some p90s in there with a new set of strings?
