The two of them together are nothing short of ethereal. The most beautiful duet I’ve ever heard! The other woman is Anneke von Giersbergen and she’s a huge name in the symphonic metal scene in her own right! It’s also worth noting that Sharon was recovering from the flu during this concert, which makes her stability on those high notes even more impressive! However, since you originally wanted to check this group out to hear the orchestra, you didn’t really get much of it in this song! I’d recommend checking out The Truth Beneath the Rose or Our Solemn Hour to really get the full effect!

Sharon den Adel was my very first major symphonic metal crush. :-) It is quiet an funny how i got in to symphonic metal. In the Netherlands we have 2 very famous vocalist that really everybody knows Anouk and Ilse deLange. I was actually curious on how well known they were outside of the Netherlands so i was going through some clips of both of them and tried to figure how much of the comments were not Dutch. As you can image i ran in to discussion who was the best Dutch vocalist under one of Ilse deLange (rock/country vocalist) clips. This went back and forth for a few comments until i ran into comment that said something like this "Seriously you guys are talking about the best Dutch vocalist and nobody even mentions Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation? That was first time i ever heard her name. A day later i was surfing the internet and ran in to a top 100 of world best female vocalists (a kind bucket-list of who you should definitely see at least once in your life on stage). At the time i got curious if either Ilse or Anouk were on that list. There was whole bunch of vocalist like Adele, Witney Houston, Barbra Streisand etc no Anouk no Ilse but then i ran in the name Sharon den Adel again. Now that is interesting i thought, better take a look at her. So i entered the name Within Temptation and got a selection of clips to chose from. The clip i selected was called "Memories" because i thought it would be cover of the "Cats" musical. I was then surprised by a beautiful heart-breaking ballad and realized i had seen the clip on MTV years before and i remembered the clip because Sharon's stunning beauty made quiet and impression apart from her exquisite voice. Underneath that clip was a whole concert video called the "Black Symphony" (the clip you just watched is from this concert). I clicked it out curiosity to just get an impression of the band but watched the whole 2 hours show in one go and was hooked. Still one of the best concert video ever made. Now the song you listened to is ballad (and nobody can deliver them like Sharon) and they do have enough of those but they are also metal band. If want to take a look at one of their heavier songs then try "The promise" from the same show. I am so happy you did Within Temptation! They are really good! Many good suggesties already made here. Their biggest and oldest classics are mother earth, and Ice Queen. Pretty ballads are Angels, memories and my favourite: forgiven. More recent work is also good like Paradise with Tarja or The Reckoning also with guest singer (they do a lot of collaborations I think that is quite interesting). I have seen them many times live they are really good! I especially enjoyed Black x-mas shows, something in between Halloween and x-mas everyone was all dressed up and they did some great songs also cover songs. There are many on RUclips.
doug marcus yes and they still always do them live! I went to high school in the town robert and sharon used to live, later on I sometimes saw sharon shopping with the baby in the stroller. Never had the nerve to talk to her (also didn’t want to ruin her privacy) so I have listend to them from the beginning when they did perform on local venues and stuff. Although I love nightwish and Floor Jansen, WT is and will always be my personal favourite 🤗
It's hard to believe that Sharon has never taken any singing lessons / vocal coaching. She is completely self taught. Anneke in turn is probably the most well known Dutch female metal vocalist internationally, as she has worked with so many bands/musicians like Devin Townsend, Ayreon, Amorphis, not to forget her own bands like The Gathering, The Gentle Storm and Vuur. Anneke also inspired Floor Jansen to become a metal vocalist, when Floor saw her & The Gathering on stage at a metal festival.
FYI She actually did get accepted in to the conservatory (classical opera education) but it was not as varied as she expected and changed over to the art academy within her first semester where she studied and completed clothing design and management. A lot af the dresses she wore on stage were of her own design. Lately she now works together with very talented and upcoming Dutch designers.

They are 2 of the many great Dutch vocalists leading bands today (Floor/Nightwish; Simone/Epica;Sharon/Within Temptation; Anneke/Vuur; Charlotte/Delain and Dianne/Ex Libris to name just a few better known member of the Singing Dutch Goddess Club. Sharon is remarkable and always pushing the boundaries of her range and style, she has many duets with other great vocalist and her Music Videos are always thought provoking and done like a movie!!! You should try Charlotte and Delain next and do it LIVE with Marco of Nightwish doing a duet with her called The Gathering (ruclips.net/video/ChP7su4Glig/видео.html) for another symphonic taste to experience. Funny thing is that Tarja also put a slightly edited version on her own album (the brightest void) of this song. She contacted Sharon first if that was OK. Sharon said to her "of-course that OK" laughing. Tarja also put a reference to the Within Temptation album (Hydra) on her cd. Those 2 really like each other.
The Dutch version of nightwish... sorta..lol. But they had some international hits (Ice Queen, mother earth) and did make songs with bigger artists like Xzibit, Keith (now Mina) Kaputo, Tarja etc. Also some great clips like "angels" and "utopia". They are basically a bit more commercial as Nightwish is, not better though in my opinion. If want to watch some of their live songs, the black symphony ones are quite ok, with orchestra and so. And Anneke van Giersbergen is amazing, also with the Devin Townsend project.

Sharon is remarkable and always pushing the boundaries of her range and style, she has many duets with other great vocalist and her Music Videos are always thought provoking and done like a movie!!!
You should try Charlotte and Delain next and do it LIVE with Marco of Nightwish doing a duet with her called The Gathering (ruclips.net/video/ChP7su4Glig/видео.html) for another symphonic taste to experience. As usual a great reaction and real appreciation for the artists and their work!!!

Anneke's old band - The Gathering is well worth a visit. But Anneke has done a lot more since leaving that band.

Sharon seems to harmonize well with other singers. Within Temptation did a song with Tarja, called "Paradise", and they sounded great together. The official version is here:

Funny thing is that Tarja also put a slightly edited version on her own album (the brightest void) of this song. She contacted Sharon first if that was OK. Sharon said to her "of-course that OK" laughing. Tarja also put a reference to the Within Temptation album (Hydra) on her cd. Those 2 really like each other.

The Dutch version of nightwish... sorta..lol. But they had some international hits (Ice Queen, mother earth) and did make songs with bigger artists like Xzibit, Keith (now Mina) Kaputo, Tarja etc. Also some great clips like "angels" and "utopia". They are basically a bit more commercial as Nightwish is, not better though in my opinion. If want to watch some of their live songs, the black symphony ones are quite ok, with orchestra and so.
And Anneke van Giersbergen is amazing, also with the Devin Townsend project.

je ne comprends pas à quoi sert ce genre de portraits un peu ridicule devant des morceaux musicaux qui dépassent totalement ceux ou celles qui l'écoutent en quoi leur avis déjà acquies vu le morceau sert à quoi que ce soit, il faut en avoir une sacrée dose pour oser se montrer comme çà et en plus çà se multiplie je rappelle que ce morceau a déjà dix ans il n'est pas d'une grande fraicheur même s'il est magnifique et superbement filmé avec les bas résilles de Anneke... ????????
