Can You Max Out Survivor Rank In Dying Light Before The First Assignment?

- Max survivor rank on 0% story, is it possible?
My very first Dying Light video was about how to level up your survivor rank, however when I watched it again recently I found it quite embarrassing and decided that it was time to make an updated and more in depth version. But this time I wondered just how early in the story it was possible to max out the survivor rank skill tree and therefore unlock legend levels? Can you even max it out before the first assignment and essentially achieve legend level on 0% story? Well that was what I intended to discover so I started a brand new save and started Dying Light again from the beginning to see what happened!

Just a bit of advice that can cut down the amount of time spent grinding for packages. If you go to the quarter master with like 200 packages, drop 190, hand in 10 and repeat. It's because as the person in the video said, handing in drops scales with your survivor rank. If you hand in all 200 in one go you will get 200 of whatever survival level you are instead of scaling per level.
So how much do i need to get the max?
@@nguyenminhle8694you can calculate how much xp you will get by using this formula: (your survivor rank - 1) × 500.
for rank 6 it would be (6 - 1) × 500 = 2500. usually you would need around 10 or 11 packages to level up but the higher your rank is the more packages you need. So, by using this formula, you can get max rank for 270 packages

I remember farming Stuffed Turtle for hours on end just listening to podcasts. It got to the point I could loot the whole thing in under a minute zooming around the shop like in one of those CS surfing videos. Cashing in the packs was pretty satisfying.
The Nightmare exploit is really cool, though. Haven't done that before.
I got bored and started timing my runs in the stuffed turtle (for just the first three packs) and my fastest time to grab them and exit was ~11 seconds, hardest part was grappling to the exit, always got stuck on that stupid window you have to climb through.
It is extremely satisfying when you glide through that window like a hot knife through butter.
@@MannyNamiro Damn lol … you farmed all that on Normal?

Same lol I go to the stuffed turtle for fun. I kill all the zombies before I grab the last 2 in the back by taking the tanks out then incising the bomber to come out before I close the doors and watch him kill the rest.
@@karahortiz9492 It’s much faster to grab just the first three in the grocery room with a grappling hook, in case you were more interested in XP speed than the backroom looting
You can get it down to under a minute with some practice, it’s pretty smooth
I got my friend into Dying Light and I played an hour or two with him, We began during Viral Week so this was quite hard to find normal zombies and our agility was normally overleveled due to running from virals all the time, They basically spawned everywhere and we had hordes of them on us everytime we left a safezone. We completed the main story during it in a single weekend and we had a blast after it passed, due to the fact the game gives you shotguns and pistols from the quartermaster during the event, It was fun blasting through the weak virals but they were insanely persistent though and basically a waste of ammo. So that's the story of how me and my friend got 12 shotguns and pistols for free.
Honestly dying light is probably the best game I've ever played, it's always fun no matter what gaming mood I'm in
Little tip: Before turning in the relief packages, switch the difficulty to Nightmare, then go to the bed on your minimap and push Square(Ps4) or X(Xbox) to sleep until night, doing both of these extra steps increases any XP gained (turning in disaster relief packages included)

As far as I know, when you switch to nightmare mode, also sleep until dark and then deliver the drops. You get even more XP for delivering during night time.
I believe you are locked out of nighttime until a little later in the game.
I believe that as well, if I remember right, you don't get access to the first "bed" until you've done the First Assignment
as other comments said. it only works for legend exp. survivor points are unaffected
Nighttime is locked until you complete a mission where you recover a drop from G.R.E , it's a tutorial on nighttime.

@@EloTheLast i think he was speaking about abusing the drops in general not just for this challange
Don't know if somebody know this, but...
I tested this once, and based on wiki's info (level-based point system), deliver enough amount per level instead of delivering all in one go is much efficient. So here's what I did from Rank 2 to Rank 12 and the number of D.R.O.P.s deliver for level up:
R2 - 1, R3 - 4, R4 - 4, R5 - 7, R6 - 8, R7 - 8, R8 - 9, R9 - 8, R10 - 10, R11 - 11, R12 - 11.
I brought 150 of 'em that time, and decided to drop most of it on the floor and pickup later per level. Just only 81 D.R.O.P.s (excluding rewards from missions) is enough to gain Level 12 for Grappling Hook, as long as you follow these above.
For max Survivor Rank, it takes exactly 272. Of course, it is really a hassle due to multiple drop and repick D.R.O.P.s just to get an exact number per level. But it was totally worth it.
Legend Rank doesn't apply on level-based point system, so you can deliver as many D.R.O.P.s as you want. :D

@@80skidgrownup00 for some reason I get the same amount and I’m not sure why
@@willmaundrill9552 The reason I didn't do that trick until I'd maxed out survivor rank is because it only works once you've unlocked legend levels 👍🏻
You used the same tactic I had done when I choose to start a new character. It took awhile, but I maxed out my character Legend Level doing everything in this video. On Air Drop when Jades says not to engage Rais’s men due to them being too dangerous I had access to guns and it made me laugh bc now you can destroy them. Having maxed out your legend level at the beginning of the game actually helps later on on some of the games tougher missions.
Especially the arena
@@cyanide6277 the arena is easy and I’m saying that from someone who beats it on nightmare. You just need groundpounds and the rebars, the museum is the hardest for me. I hate beating the right hand man.

I just bought this game and I realized that the first mission kept daylight forever that I could use to explore and level. So I went in search of tips to exploit that "opportunity" and this video is exactly what I was looking for :). Excellent job explaining the strategy to a player new to the game.
Retrieve them in story or normal mode then Deliver them in nightmare mode. I promise you’ll get to legend levels in a couple weeks depending how much you play. I have Soooooo much fun playing this game.
I just bought the game and did exactly like the video says but it didn't work. Could you help me? I played in story mode but hordes and hordes of zombies attacked me as soon as they caught sight of me. And there was a guy with guns shooting me at the quarantine zone too.
Long Trần try turning your community participation off. There’s a zombie horde special going on right now. You’re attacked by never ending virals. Once you turn it off you can try it again. Do stuffed turtle in story or normal mode then turn them in during nightmare mode and you’ll get ranked up before you know it.
for new players dont do this, just change dificulty, that will ruin your game it's like cheating
True but it's not as fun as doing night runs and having to find creative ways to escape from volatiles or night walkers. Although running from volatiles is pretty much impossible until you level up your stamina until at least the first stamina booster, or you know the map really well and know where all the traps are. Flares are also a lifesaver, much more useful than the UV flashlight imo.
Believe it or not, I am new to this game and finding your guide is priceless, so thank you very much for this, saved me a lot of time!

I really don't care that much about having hundreds of endings, I'd be fine with just a few and keep the entire story engaging and fleshed out through the game instead of 1/100th-assing every part of the story.

Great video, fun to see these types of curiosities explored in this game.
Just an fyi for viewers, don't turn in too many packs at once. There is maths in the code that after so many packs turned in at once it decreases the amount of XP rewarded for each additional pack. I don't know the exact number that is safe, but there are vids that will explain it. So if you save up hundreds of packs, you get the most by turning them in on nightmare and in smaller bunches at a time.
This is brilliant! I have done something almost similar, in utilizing the survivor drops found in water locations around the map. Collecting quite a few that way. But this by far will be even much more effective. Thank you so much for this tip.
I've just started playing this game with a friend so all of this is very relevant. Thanks for the amazing tips!

I don’t know why but this was like the most entertaining thing I’ve ever watched - good video 👌
i might give this a try when i decide to download and play this again. Your video was really good and keep up the good work.
survivor xp from drops is dependent on your survivor level, starting at 500 and increasing at something like 500 per level. The best way to quickly level is to drop most of the drops and turn them in incrementally instead of all in. This is because it will only give you the xp corresponding to the survivor level you turned it in at.
Just picked this up to play with friends, nice content man you’ve satiated my thirst for content

I found a better way to do the stuffed turtle thing. Get the three once you get the third go to the main menu (make sure you have the quest active) and then load back in. For the past year or so I've been thinking how cool Dying Light 2 looks, but never played the first one. I always thought it was just one more generic "zombie smashing" game, like CoD Zombies with melee weapons and light/basic "story" elements.
I accidentally ended up watching this video a few weeks ago because I like watching people do speedrunning, exploiting, cheese tactics, glitches, etc., in any game-it's all brilliant-but this video actually made me really curious about this game. Now that I see Dying Light 2 is finally available for pre-order I thought back to this video and decided to give the first game a shot.
Damn, I was way off about my early judgements. This game is so dope! I'm so glad I saw this video-you're pretty much the main reason I thought twice about giving this one a shot and I'm super glad I did. I got the platinum version off PSN for like $25! What a steal. But to think $25 is a good deal on an old game amazes me. Gamers have become total suckers these days and no wonder the game companies don't respect their opinions.
A great way to power level agility is to try and just the perk where you can vault over zombies and just do that over and over. Also, in my play through, the perk that lets you charge zombies and knock them over would give me agility and strength. Drop kicking zombies off of roofs give you good points too because how far they fall determines how many points you get. Oh man, I just finally got to max survivor/agility/power levels after playing the whole game and then some, with a bit of time in The Following, this would've saved me so much time a few weeks ago! I guess I didn't realize you could keep going in and out of QZs without completing the challenge. Makes me wanna start a new save just to rank up my legend level.
when he realizes he could've item duped the supply drops + switch to nightmare difficulty.
Does duplication still work? I tried it yesterday but I couldn't send them back to my inventory, the original went back. I duplicated 10 things into my stash but moving them back reset it to 1.
For a sec i thought that James May was narrating the video
I really like your videos you inspired me to play dying light and thanks for making amazing content
this is going to be a game changer thanks man
damn i really miss this game now, life was good when this dropped
While farming during the rust event a while ago everytime you went outside the market there was scientest rust npcs and they always drained all your health qith there police rifles which was annoying but I had like 400 medkits so you know its okay also I loved farming the scientists spots for guns to sell like I get a full inventory just from the weapons also it was the easiest and fastest way to get a gun in the beginning.
That was awesome advice - thanks so much, now I'm tempted to start all over again - lol
I might actually give this video an Extremely Thumbs up since this method would be helpful since I kept struggling with Deaths and weapons to level up
