Mines making the same noise. I keep thinking rod knock or timing chain but it's a nee timing chain and the bottom end was rebuilt. And I just rebuilt the top end.

Could be your timing chain slapping if it stretched or your if your tensioner failed. Pull out your tensioner and make sure your cant push it in. It has a little nail on the side that you have to press to get it to push in.

Just bought an 01 raptor for 1k and took a chance on that noise.. Not sure what it is exactly yet however it seems to change when i pull the clutch or engage a gear with the clutch and move the bike.. Anyone know what it is?

Mines do the same thing. I suspect it to be timing chain loose. You ever find out you issue?

I just bought a 01 raptor and has the same thing going on but only when starter turns over. Once it’s running it’s super snappy.

J T thanks for the info, i just finished putting mine back together after 2nd gear blew and it was making this sound, I thought it was the timing chain but it’s manually tightened

From everyone on the forums, it is nothing to be worried about and that most raptors have some motor chatter.
