    Hey Hunter, thank you for the perspective. It helped me get my camshaft oriented. I had the camshaft sitting in the journals 180 degrees off initially too.
    Maybe you have a different cam sprocket, but there are no imaginary holes. The cam sprocket does have three dimples (punch marks) which should sit at West, North, and East respectively. The North dimple (punch mark) is covered up by the decompressor guide, when installing the sprocket bolts. The decompressor spring lever with its projections (pegs) also has a dimple (punch mark) that is supposed to sit north. It is all in that manual if followed correctly. You are pointing directly at it all 1:51

    If you use a piece of wire instead of that socket extension to hang the timing chain when you remove it from the camshaft, it won’t fall down and come off the crankshaft. Saves a lot of headache when putting things back together. Especially if you are removing more than just the valve cover.

      It's all I had next to me to stick in there lol, the last 4 wheeler I did this too, I used a zip to to the frame above to ensure it kept the tension on the chain so it wouldn't fall off the crank

    Hey there hunter’s mechanic, did u get my mesage earlier today regarding the atv. Same bike 2001 raptor , same niche kit. When I have spark plug in it , engine won’t turn over but twice , I get 120 pounds compression , and turns over a lot with spark plug out , why won’t it keep turning over after 2 times with spark plug in ??

    • @Hunters_Mechanics
      @Hunters_Mechanics  Год назад +1

      I replied it to but I don't even see my comment, must not of had good signal when I did and it just didn't upload.... I believe you mentioned using an ATV battery to help jump start but have you used a vehicle battery? I keep a truck battery in the garage to jump mine in case I need it. Double check the ground to the case, it should run from the battery to the left side engine cover. My starter wouldn't turn over damn near at all when it was dirty and it also smoked 2 of my starters.... worst case scenario is that your Camshaft decompression pin man not be working. When you are starting the engine, the camshaft has a small pin on it that decreases the cylinder pressure and once it fully starts, that pin returns to its position for full compression. I know a lot of people that watch my videos have the same issue and I never knew about it when I made my videos. @danil1581 has a video on that decompression pin on how it works. If you find no solution with another battery or cabling, thats where id look next. Let me know how it goes!

    • @glendane8625
      @glendane8625 Год назад

      @@Hunters_Mechanics yes I think this is my issue as well , that decompression pin sounds like the issue . I get 2 good strokes to fill up the gauge and then it’s not releaseing compression like u said to let turn over anymore , I pull spark plug and it moves fine , yes I am using a vehicle battery to give it more juice as well

Knock on wood but I haven't had any issues with mine but everytime I have removed my cam I have cleaned out the journal holes and made sure that the spring and mechanisms still work on the front. If you do take the cam out, don't forgot to zip tie the cam chain up so you don't drop it in the case 😉😂

    • @Hunters_Mechanics
      @Hunters_Mechanics  3 года назад

      You might have the cam 180 degrees off, any time the Cam timing is off is when the valve would hit the piston. Ensure that when you are putting the cam in that the crank is lined up with the slit, and that you have the correct "pin" and oil galleries facing upwards on the camshaft, otherwise the timing will be wrong

    • @netflixnchil421
      @netflixnchil421 2 года назад

      Cam lobes down and three pin holes you should be able to see. Also his timing chain is super wore out of he can rotate the chain without taking the cam sprocket off. Put the cam in and then the gear. Adjust accordingly.

      @@roycesands5475 When my 4 wheeler timing was off that's what caused mine but my timing was off by 90 degrees. I wouldn't expect the 4 wheeler to lanch the carbs out with only one tooth off but I've learned that, that specific engine is very very picky. I bought the new carbs because the old ones would not stop flowing gas out of the overflow even with two different rebuilt kits having a new needle jet, so I went ahead and got new carbs on amazon for $45-ish and they have worked much better and have alleviated some headaches. Like I've told other people, did you ensure that you used the correct indents on the cam to set the timing? Because that's how I ended up being 90 degrees off.

    This is why your timing chain snapped and this is not good info to give people sorry .. you need to bolt the Rocker Cover down before you put the tensioner in or you will stretch the chain

      The manual specifically states after installing the cam and the timing chain to install the timing chain tensioner..... I've never had a timing chain break on any atv I have changed the timing chain on nor had any issues with them.

    Bro i CAN NOT get the cam gear perfect. As soon as I set the tension it’s off. 😂

      Like I tried to state in the video, if you get the cam gear to line up the dots with the surface, that's all it needs to be, when you set the tension it will be a little off, as long as BEFORE you see the tension it lines up, you're golden

      Snap 358 was your timing right? Mine is doing the same thing...I spent hours messing with it and trying different teeth to compensate then eventually I found this comment and said screw it
