I am a nichiren's buddhist and this interview made me so happy. A lot of people ask me how is it different from what shakyamuni teached. So in simple words it is the same truth that shakyamuni expounded. Because there is a lot of buddhist doctrines stemming from the numerous teachings of shakyamuni buddha , it is easy to get lost in the rituals and many ideas and lose sight of the truth. The highest truth is contained in the lotus sutra which shakyamuni buddha expounded in the last few years of his life and nichiren understood that and actualised that truth through the simple practise of chanting "Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo" . The practise however is not merely chanting alone but also to have faith and also study the lotus sutra and the writings of nichiren Daishonin . Faith here does not mean to believe in an external god but to realise that the ultimate reality of this universe is inherent within you and that at any momemt through our faith and chanting we can summon forth that pure life force and transform any obstacles. There are people against this practise, apart from the propaganda against this practise , this arises mainly due to ignorance . But the fact that people have achieved immense victory through this practise, have become better human beings attests to the greatness of this buddhism.
This was so beautifully & powerfully written. I’m currently trying to read/ learn more about Nichiren Buddhism. I keep being drawn to Buddhism and this particular practice of Buddhism feels like a natural fit. Hard to explain but somehow it feels right (and logical).
So use what works for you. The whole goal of this teaching is to create happiness and Harmony in this world. What could be wrong with that. Some people just want to hate what they don't understand.
What is strange is that Nichiren Buddism withes happiness to all beings and they eat meat. They don't condone eating meat. They accept that it is ok to inflict suffering on animals for meat consumption.
@@Fdan36 Because what I know about Nichiren Buddhism is based on the insane life of Nichiren himself. He hated every other branch of Buddhism so much he demanded the shogunate burn down temples that taught things other than the Lotus Sutra or Japan would be doomed (Though it was quite the coincidence that the two Mongol invasions happened shortly after his second exile).
My book is the one true book, my way is the only way and other practices are mostly useless. Sounds like Christianity to be honest. There are 84,000 Dharma gates, denigrating the teachings of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas unless they agree that the Lotus sutra is the "one true book" doesn't sound very nice.
Agreed. I'm okay with Nichiren practice, even simple practices produce good results, but I don't think that SGI's understanding of Nichiren's sectarianism is "Right View" - and there are some SGI practitioners who seem to be following along these lines. Wrong speech includes divisive speech. Unless we have actually studied and directly examined what other sanghas are doing today, we should at least be provisionally ecumenical in our views about other Buddhist sanghas unless it has been conclusively determined that there is wrong action, wrong speech, or wrong view being perpetuated by a Buddhist sangha that is harming the Buddha dharma in general.

This practice saved my life.
Please explain how. Thank you

NAMU-MYOHO-RENGE-KYO
very interesting
Just curious - do most SGI practitioners read "the Lotus Sutra" or just chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo?
Yes, they do....
@@lucylouwho2876 yes, now I understand. Morning gongyo - 2 and 16.
@@KevinLopez-rl6wq actually reading from "The wisdom of the lotus sutra" also. Yes, interpretation unless you read Japanese.
@@lucylouwho2876 What is "wisdom of the lotus sutra"? Is that a text written by Ikeda?

Nichiren Buddhism is when you scream at everyone that they're going to hell if they don't worship the Lotus Sutra
Why is your opinion so extreme

Jack, could it be that you're in hell yourself? Stay in this state if you want because no one here will ever force you to chant Nam Myo Renge Kyo.
@@sangatgobindsingh6574 Nichiren himself was pretty insistent that not chanting Nam Myo Renge Kyo would land you in Hell
