I just saw the English beat at the culture room in Fort Lauderdale Florida. They were absolutely amazing. Surprisingly they actually hung out inside and outside of the venue with all of us just hanging out chilling. Dave is so cool signing autographs outside on the bus. Can't wait to see them again
There is just something about music from the 80's, the best stand out bands, one hit wonders, the clothes and outrageous hair do's, there will never be another era like it,so lucky to have lived it.........
Nice "tip of the hat" to Pearl Jam with "Better Man" lyrics! Great song and I love how "The Beat" and "PJ" continue to acknowledge eachother! Should do a show together someday!
I agree, would be pretty wild, but not sure if Eddie would remember the lyrics to any songs played, pretty sure he'd be too blown away at being on the same stage as Wakeling at the same time. lol
Last nite...epic. Paroxysms of joy...Save It For Later was like 7 minutes of bliss. Tears, Ranking Full Stop, I Confess, Tenderness, Stand Down, Mirror, Twist, Doors...Dave was in fine form and his band was very strong. King Schascha (sp) was great as toaster. Oh, and The Skatalites opened. Well done, Duval.
MEGA - Saw them 1983 supporting Bowie's serious moonlight tour - Milton Keynes - Roasting hot day - Also with Icehouse - Icehouse - The Beat & Bowie at The Bowl
THE BEAT where an extraordinary band, from birmingham(apart from the lead guitarist from isle of wight) i remember them well at all the venues around the midlands in the early days, before they hit the TOP OF THE POPS hosted by a midlands DJ, who praised them.dave wakeling has talent, which is far underated, it's a bit of a mystery that they didn't hit the highest spot of appreciation by the masses.
The English Beat predate MAW by a couple of years. Definitely not a clone - The Beat, The Specials and also Selector were major label groups that popularized the revived ska sound of the punk era.
Pearl Jam throws in Save it for Later sometimes when they play Better Man, it's worth a listen. It's great. 5/3/03 State College Pennsylvania is a great 10 minute one. Cheers
Pearl Jam play bits of this song in a song called BETTERMAN live....and Dave sings some part of that Pearl Jam song here....both bands have been nodding to each other for a few years now.
I dont think anyone is thinking this is a Pearl Jam song at all(myself included)...they are referring to the Betterman coda, an OBVIOUS nod of the hat to PJ who do the same thing
You can bet Pearl Jam members were blown away by this. Seems like the Beats way of winking back at them for cleverly slipping part of this song into Betterman.
Not sure what to make of your comment, but i hope you're not disrespecting the gentleman.I had the pleasure of meeting the man a finer artist you will not meet.
@@racketman2u Betterman is Save it For Later with different words. Most of us know which one came first and which one is the better song. And it ain't by Pearl Jam 🤣
Why are these guys covering a Britney Spears tune? .... Just kidding. English Beat are great. Caught them live a few years ago in Cranford or Westfield. One of my favorite shows was when guys from this band toured as the Special Beats with the Specials.
you just dont get it, do you?? see my "nappies" comment - why would the Beat OBVIOUSLY nod their hat to a group who perform a cover of their song so many years later? They did this song before PJ even existed, sonny, there is no hat nodding here. repeat after me " it Is NOT a Pearl Jam song, it is a Beat original that Pearl Jam shamelessly sampled - but you just can't admit that, can you, fanboy?
lol, I'm sure that Wakeling was flattered to have Vedder ask permission to use part of this song in Pearl Jams 'Betterman'. Wakeling doesn't think of himself as above anyone else, one of the things that I've always appreciated about him. As far as I can see it, it is a 'You're welcome' to Pearl Jams 'Thank you for letting us use part of your song to make ours a hit'
@@Stinkbug74 more likely there is some contractual obligation for Pearl Jam to name Save It For Later when they play Betterman so Dave gets paid for writing the music. Betterman is at least 50% Dave's work.
Glad he wrote this song and great drive song, but Pete Towsend’s cover of this on his acoustic guitar is truly a song that transcends mere performance.

That is awesome
I saw them as General Public at Numbers in Houston in the rocking 80s baby!
Different band same lead singer.
There is just something about music from the 80's, the best stand out bands, one hit wonders, the clothes and outrageous hair do's, there will never be another era like it,so lucky to have lived it.........
Please play this pure pop gem at my funeral. There is no better song. Indeed it does capture the magic of the era.
This song catches the magic of the era. It's everything we dream of when we think fondly of the 80s. So @#$#ing brilliant.
One of the best live bands I've ever seen. Dave is always bringing it!
saw the original in 1981; one of the heaviest gigs I have ever been to (and i became a thrash metal fan in 86)
Just an incredible band , you can’t sit still when you hear this great song,
His voice sounds the same. Amazing.
Just saw them a couple weeks ago. Dudes voice was perfect.

This tune is pure glorious joy for those who understand.
Lead vocals still sound awesome...one of a kind voice!
How can anybody resist dancing to this song?

Reminds me of my first love, we would play this record over and over.. 1983.....
i love the energy of the backup singer buddy. He's always so all over teh place in concert.
Best live version I’ve heard and then they sneak in some Pearl Jam, WOW 🤩
So underrated, so talented so ska, feel The Beat xxxx
WHAT AN AMAZING VOICE!!!! YOU STILL GOT IT DAVE!!!
I guess it's kind of off topic but do anybody know a good website to watch newly released series online ?
@Arlo Matthias I would suggest FlixZone. Just google for it :)
@Princeton Merrick Yea, I have been using Flixzone for months myself =)
@Princeton Merrick thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service =) I appreciate it!!
@Arlo Matthias glad I could help :D
Saw them Saturday night in Costa Mesa, CA. Fantastic show. Save It For Later and Best Friend were incredible!!
Men at work my ass! These guys are legends!
They've been at it for a while and it freaking shows!!! Sooo tight!
Saw them at the Tower Theater in Philly They played before the Pretenders. What a concert
D-A-V-E W-A-K-E-L-I-N-G. Thanks big guy.
Seeing them 2nite in NYC! Cant wait!
One of the best of rhe second British music invasion. Hard to sit still. I want to go back!
In memoriam of Chris Jefferson, guitar player on the far right of the stage 💔
MEGA - Saw them 1983 supporting Bowie's serious moonlight tour - Milton Keynes - Roasting hot day - Also with Icehouse - Icehouse - The Beat & Bowie at The Bowl
these guys still sound great!
Love you forever Dave!!!
same here. what is the secret? their music makes me so happy and the endorphins are flying high!
he still sounds amazing
Love the tone from the Vox teardrop guitar!
Such a great performance. Would love to see it in person!
very cool version
Thank you so much this is incredible!! Love it!!!!!

Brilliant.
Pearl Jam and The Beat. So fucking magic!
Just BEAUTIFUL
Saw them last night in San Diego on the embarcadero. So much fun!
Thanks for sharing this...fantastic!
Absolutely Great, a little touch & go in the beginning, but they really picked it up !
Just brilliant.
I love how they did pearljam u dudes rock great classic tune
esperanza supporting them in a couple of weeks cant wait
Super cool... extended 😎
Long live Rock N Roll!
@MegatonPunch
Amen to that brother:....the 80's.......magic..........brilliant!
I love it!
The best!
This is just awesome
Awesome!
Awesome
This is a great, sound and vid!
@simpleinseattle I have seen Dave live many times and I have never had a bad time.
Great PJ betterman tag in response to Save it for later tag on betterman
A dream home in N.Z.
I saw them live with RBF :D
they rocked.

fantastico!!!
Love the Pearl Jam lyrics that he snuck in...
Pearl Jam throws in Save it for Later sometimes when they play Better Man, it's worth a listen. It's great. 5/3/03 State College Pennsylvania is a great 10 minute one. Cheers
And I 'love' the fact that Pearl Jam 'snuck' the tune to Save It For Later under some of their lyrics and called it 'Betterman'.
Pearl Jam play bits of this song in a song called BETTERMAN live....and Dave sings some part of that Pearl Jam song here....both bands have been nodding to each other for a few years now.
keep talking nonsense
Ouais c vraiment Bon
betterman.... nice surprise
just because pearl jam play Save It For later as part of Betterman doesnt make it theirs - it was a Beat hit when pearl jam were in nappies.
Fantastic song and band! Really can do no wrong even if he plays the guitar weird.
Saw them open for the Clash way back when. Pretty much upstaged them (not that easy to do).
I dont think anyone is thinking this is a Pearl Jam song at all(myself included)...they are referring to the Betterman coda, an OBVIOUS nod of the hat to PJ who do the same thing
wtf are you talking about, this song was done years before Pearl bloody Jam
How does it look
Pete Townshend does a great acoustic cover (studio and live). Check em out if you get a chance.
It says Rude Boy on his guitar but he seems like a thoroughly nice chap..
Better man is a song that Pearl Jam re-produced
Holy Shit and the Pearl Jam tribute also.
You can bet Pearl Jam members were blown away by this. Seems like the Beats way of winking back at them for cleverly slipping part of this song into Betterman.
@@Stinkbug74 parts of this song? Betterman is essentially Save It For Later with different words.

Some great choons from the beat/ mods( I wasn't one btw)
R.I.P. Dave. You will be missed.
Dave isn't dead
This is sort of a medley; I recognize Better Man, but what are the others?
hahahaha "sort of a medley" yeah, Pearl Jam didn't "sample " this, did they?
@@racketman2u Betterman is Save it For Later with different words. Most of us know which one came first and which one is the better song. And it ain't by Pearl Jam 🤣
dave wakeling and ranking roger of english beat who formed general public later. well before pearl jam...c'mon people!
Americans, you have to forgive them for not knowing one of the great Brit ska bands
Funny song
The 80's are over people.
William Kolacek The 80s (not 80’s) are NOT over, the 80s are life!

Thank you, got me laughing pretty good there. heheeehe
I mix opinions on Wakeling.
He split the original band up
You are joking right?
you just dont get it, do you??

Fantastic, timeless song. Shame about Dave's voice though. Is he a heavy smoker or something?
"F" greenpeace ...save it for later Dave!
lol
Vocally and musically a decent Men At Work clone song. Melody, sax, and vocal inflections are all Colin and MAW.
wrong wrong wrong wrong. Dave Wakeling wrote this for the Beat in 1978 or 1979, long before Men At Work had any sort of international fame.
What's with The "English" Beat bullshit? Who cares about some like-minded Stateside outfit? America - they are "The Beat". Full-stop.
and The British Beat in Australia.
He's turned yank. Dreadful vocals. Lost his roots.
lol
Being a Yank- I sure hope he has a good Gun collection- and what keeps the Freedom for a People who wants their Freedom!
