I think I even heard Townshend say in an introduction to one of the live versions that he wished that he'd written this song.. Quite a compliment. Quite a song!

When your phone goes and it's Pete Twosned asking you about tunings for your song, you know you're onto something! Good punchy interview - thanks for uploading.

I really don't think Pete was making fun of the tuning as the interviewer suggests.
He found it novel and loved it. He's played "Save it For Later" quite often live and seems to be a big fan of the Beat.

Three guitarists that have had a major impact on my musical enjoyment through the years - what a great story. Dave's about as down to earth & humble as they come. Met The Beat as they passed through my vlllage in 1980 just after their first appearance on Top Of The Pops. Roger about 2.5 years older than me (RIP mate) & we git it off right away. Absolute gent & so full of energy. Save It For Later STILL my favourite Beat tune but it's a hard decision as they were such a great band. STILL got it though as I saw them on the UK tour here last June. My watch reckons I danced about 10 kilometres that night.
    Love. Peace. Unity.

Dave is quite honest but he kinda self-effaced his achievement on that genius song, because however accidental he may have come around to it. It was his genuine young teenager expression which came to it with the longing that his chords made as Youth personal rubric, regardless of whatever else he wanted to duplicate done by many. Truly Punk as Iggy's Passenger, better even. And his accidental discovery is celebrated and it's the right way to play it, it made a huge difference that gave that song its unique mix of emotions. No wonder someone as finely tuned to all guitar secrets as Townshend could appreciate it like no others.
