    BY FAR, Dave Gilmour is my all-time favorite guitarist. Nobody wrings emotion from a guitar like Gilmour does. He is the grandmaster of that instrument in my book. I cannot imagine the world without his worldclass catalogue of masterful composition and musical artistry in it. I am often moved to the core of my soul when listening to David playing his guitars.

    • @alexandriaocasio-smollett5078
      @alexandriaocasio-smollett5078 2 года назад +6

      Absolutely agree. I will go one step further…
      In my opinion, he is the best lead guitarist/vocalist in rock history. There may be a couple better guitarists. There may be a couple better vocalists. But as a combo, there’s no one better in my opinion. I realize that is subjective. But to me the only person who even comes close to challenging him for the number one spot on that list is Prince.

    • @Wheresthelove7
      @Wheresthelove7 2 года назад +2

      @@alexandriaocasio-smollett5078 Gilmour is great. No question. I find Prince to be more about showmanship. He is a fine guitarist as well. But I hate his voice. And the more you read about him the more you realize how deplorable he was.
      I know that it would be better to compartmentalize the art from the artist.
      But whenever I see him he seems so narcissistic. Skilled but no genius.

    • @iDONTdoFacebook
      @iDONTdoFacebook Год назад

      @@Wheresthelove7
      Comparing Prince’s narcissism to Gilmour’s generosity is like looking at night and day. Dave has donated literally MILLIONS of dollars to homeless/hungry causes. And his lack of selfishness and personality that is the POLAR OPPOSITE of narcissistic comes thru when he’s performing live. He doesn’t jump around or dance onstage trying to attract attention to himself. He’s all about the fans, pouring himself totally into the music to give them the best emotion evoking sound and feeling thru his masterful, worldclass trademark guitarwork and vocals. With Gilmour there’s no distracting the fans by jumping around like a self-centered “LOOK AT ME” type, trying to attract attention to himself. Dave Gilmour wants the attention on the music, not himself. He’s a PURE PERFORMER of MUSICAL ARTISTRY and absolutely one of the very best!

      Marooned …Sorrow …Coming Back To Life …5 a.m. …”…And Then” …and the list of Gilmour Greats Guitar masterpieces goes on… David has a catalogue of TIMELESS worldclass guitarworks that are NOT eclipsed nor defined by his world-renowned solos in Comfortably Numb. They each stand on their own and each, in their own ways, reach deep into the soul to stir emotions and make us feel very alive.
      David Gilmour is an extraordinarily GIFTED musician and grandmaster of his chosen instrument, the guitar.

    Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a P.F. show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"...
    I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen.
    I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold.

    I love DG but Brian May is talking about Ian Gillan, not David Gilmour.

    Other than D.G.'s name being mentioned in passing around three times, all the clips here were about the praises of Pink Floyd. billy Corgan was long-winded and full 0f himself as usual. You did correct your Brian May mishap though.
    Not impressed at all.

    Why are you showing so many pictures of Waters??? Plus I'm hearing a lot about Floyd, but very little about David Gilmour.

    John Helliwell and Rick Davies of Supertramp (when David played on Brother Where You Bound and both were wowed at David's soloing), Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush, Dennis DeYoung of Styx (in fact, Dennis said he made his 2009 solo album One Hundred Years From Now Styx like after hearing David's On an Island album and two years ago enjoyed Rattle That Lock and was sad that David's last album didn't get played on radio).

    If...and that's a big IF..
    IF I ever listened to Pink Hroid, it was because of Gilmour.
    Never because of that egotistical self righteous goofy voiced Roger Waters
