Thank you so much for bringing some spotlight to our little town! My dad is Bobby Langbartels from the video, and I’ve grown up around Stephen my whole life. I still have pictures from when I was 11 years old at the benefit! I even worked at Riverport a bit my senior year of high school and when I was home from college. Such a great place with absolutely amazing people, not to mention the spectacular food! (Swamp fries truly are as good as they look) Stephen truly is such a light in our small town and I’m so thankful that he and my dad are such good friends so I have the privilege to know someone as great as him. Now after watching this I gotta get some BBQ before heading back to school after break is over!! 😋
Hi Elaina! Please give me regards to your dad - he's such an impressive guy! I can't tell you enough how wonderful everyone was - and what a great impression your town left on me, my daughter, and the crew. Enjoy those swamp fries - and have a BBQ sandwich for me next time you go! -Al
Stephen is the best customer that I ever had the pleasure to deliver to!! He is just like you see on this video, a great person!! One day while bringing in some meat and other things ,He asked me if I was hungry, well of course, it was late in the afternoon and he gave me a whole side of ribs!! Man how good they are!! Ya'll try it !!
BBQ is soul food, and Al is a storyteller of its soul. This is a wonderful story of triumph over tribulations and the value of a loving community. God bless Stephen Joseph, his family, and his community for pouring out their hearts on each other and on this film, as it is an inspiration to us all. As for BBQ techniques, thanks also for showing us that smoking overnight at 200 degrees is a good thing, and it's fine to leave the membrane on ribs and also not glaze them, to chop brisket, to smoke with hickory wood, and to be a creative as you wish with seasonings. Kudos to Daniel Vaughn for discovering this diamond in East Texas, and to Al for shining a brilliant light on it.
I grew up going to Riverport BBQ. Stephen was my inspiration for buying an offset smoker and learning how to cook brisket. Fantastic job! I might have shed a tear or two watching this.
