Last year I got over it with the voices for FF7 remake because hands down the characters were casted in a good way. But my lord why of all the casting did they get Zack Fair so wrong. I have nothing against this actor because obviously I don’t know him. But this was a bad casting call. For crisis core reunion they should have just brought Rick Gomez. I get it this game has to correlate with FF7 remake but still. Rick Gomez did not have to be replaced. Honestly, his voice is what got me into the game and the story itself. Rick brought a country boy character having dreams to make it big. And Caleb sounds like a boy who is still maturing and living in a LA type city. It’s off. Sorry for the blabber. I hope they could at least bring Rick as a DLC voice option that would be great.
Rick Gomez adds that "Naive Confidence" to Zack. Caleb just feels off. I'm willing to give him a chance. But considering how The Fairly Odd Parents Reboot went, I'm feeling a bit discouraged.

One tiny thing about Reunion that irks me to no end is how Cloud says to Zack "I really like that sword" instead of "You know, I've never seen you use that sword". Not only does it not make any sense contextually but it also completely ruins the callback to Zack saying the same to Angeal earlier in the game. Also, it's not that the new VA is terrible, he has some really good deliveries here and there, it's just that anything but Rick Gomez is absolutely unacceptable and bad.

But my gosh does the original still look good in some ways, especially the characters. Zack and especially Aerith look so gorgeous already in the original in the church scene.

Here's my actual problem with the new casting. If they are trying so hard to come as close as possible to the previous VAs, then what really is the point? Why not just reuse the aforementioned? If this is a money issue, logically it seems like either: 1. They hired the new VAs to save money. or 2. The previous VAs were asking too much money. But seeing how SE just outed the aforementioned and they have shown on social media disingenuously saying they were cool about it; it's obvious the past VAs still want to reprise their roles and I believe otherwise on the money issue. I'm not saying the new cast is entirely terrible, in fact, the recast is quite good for the most part and fits their "younger" version (FF7 Remake). But specifically in the Crisis core remake and Sephiroth, what's the point in the recast when they try to sound so similar? A recast is supposed to sound a bit close, but obviously their own take on it as well.
Meanwhile...Toshiyuki Morikawa has remained the voice of Sephiroth as the Japanese VA(along with the rest of the cast I believe). the reasons to change any NA VAs could only be petty at this point. Which reminds me...imagine not having Steve Blum voice Vincent...there's no replacement VA that can match him.

The old voice actor did a great job, and it is iconic, but Zack’s new voice actor has so much more color and personality. It adds a layer of dorkiness that gives Zack a more true to character “puppy” aspect. I much prefer the new VA.

Sad thing not only the voices throw me off, character faces look way too round & soft, Zacks eyes are supposed to be bright mako blue but instead they almost look black. They could've done way better.

The part that kills me most about these is I've heard a bunch of Caleb's other lines now too they picked a bunch of ,imho, the best of his deliveries, but they're still super flat and feel so blasé compared to Rick. I don't know anything else about Caleb, but this whole thing just feels like inexperienced VA and poor/no direction.

Fine, though pretty rare that it happens, but it doesn't change the fact that there were better voice actors for this role. Look up the new guy and marvel at his impressive "experience". Of course you don't need prior experience to voice a character, buy for such a big franchise, and for how badly he did, it make me wonder how many people they even had in the audition for the role.
It’s hard to say when it comes to auditions, who knows maybe they had good ones but wanted a butt load of money or they had all duds, but at the end of the day none of us really knows what’s going on behind the scenes, it’s a business, this series sells so much more in Japan then anywhere across the world so I don’t think square Enix cares much about English voice actors status, more about the numbers at the end of the day. Clearly the ff7 remake sold well enough to prove to keep the actors on.

The part that kills me most about these is I've heard a bunch of Caleb's other lines now too they picked a bunch of ,imho, the best of his deliveries, but they're still super flat and feel so blasé compared to Rick.
I don't know anything else about Caleb, but this whole thing just feels like inexperienced VA and poor/no direction.

I get nostalgia but Rick Gomez is one of the most wooden voice actors I’ve ever seen. He also sounds like an old man and Zack is a young man lmao
No offense to the new guy but it just DOES NOT FIT. I dislike it with a passion. Zack is one my favorite characters of all time and this just doesn't even sound good at all.
No offense to the VA though but CC:PSP VAs Zack and Sephy's just feel and sound natural, the newer ones are fine but it just doesn't hit the spot.

zack's og voice with rick gomez has that confident feeling to it like you can trust zack to do a task for you. He was clouds mentor and he was an amazing character. the new voice does not fit at all. would of been good for a younger zack.

If you asked my opinion, this new voice is awful that even Steve Burton's OG voice as Cloud Strife is infinity times tolerable than him.
The lines 0:23 and 0:46 are just as good as the original, but something about the other lines just bother me.
Probably need to try to read the English subtitle faster so I can used Japanese voice

People are blinded by nostalgia, for me Caleb did and is doing a great job as Zack, in fact, I would say that his voice fits better with the personality of the character. There is no need to disparage one actor to praise another. In fact, I would say that all the actors in Remake seem fantastic to me and even improve the work that was done before.
I have never understood nor will I understand this hate for Caleb or for the actor of Sephirot, both seem exceptional to me.

To be honest ALL of the new American voice lines suck a big fat weiner. It's like they went all out for the Japanese voice actors but could only be bothered to hire low-rent porn actors for the English dub

Fine, though pretty rare that it happens, but it doesn't change the fact that there were better voice actors for this role. Look up the new guy and marvel at his impressive "experience". Of course you don't need prior experience to voice a character, buy for such a big franchise, and for how badly he did, it make me wonder how many people they even had in the audition for the role.
It’s hard to say when it comes to auditions, who knows maybe they had good ones but wanted a butt load of money or they had all duds, but at the end of the day none of us really knows what’s going on behind the scenes, it’s a business, this series sells so much more in Japan then anywhere across the world so I don’t think square Enix cares much about English voice actors status, more about the numbers at the end of the day. Clearly the ff7 remake sold well enough to prove to keep the actors on.
Then Square should have just remastered Zack's old dialog instead of hiring some rando to do a half assed redub of his lines

Some of the new isnt bad to be fair. But i think they really did auch a goos job on the og voicing that maybe its just that they didnt match up the quality rather than the new dude just sucking.

Sadly a game ima have to pass. It's not Zack without Rick. I know I'm not gonna feel the same feelings when hearing this new VA. He makes me cringe. Gameplay looks great but I can pass. No satisfaction playing a guy with 0% of zacks personality from the OG.
