I agree to a point, I do think he was looking to lock in a long-term contract with the Bruins if he could... It's tough to break into an original six locker room where there's a bunch of loyalty contracts
I will say though, bertuzzi coming from Detroit Red wings playing on the top line with one of the NHL's top scorers? There really was only one place for his stats to go LOL!
He's got quite an injury history, once players break their hands, they go quickly... Those snappy passes disappear.
He never really seemed at home in The locker-room-he just sort of spoke into microphone saying what he was supposed to say to reporters. A reporter would make a statement and he would agree with it!
I didn't see him staying-but I feel bad for the guy because he chose a contract on a team with the longest Stanley Cup drought LOL!
I think they just gutted their GM and are trying to keep Matthews in Toronto as well as nylander and the core for-so bertuzzi may find himself out of that locker room after next season also.
He's trying to break into an original six locker room with established core lines and players.
I don't think he's going to find a place to settle in for the rest of his career on an original six team, unless he goes back to Detroit
GM's, trainers and owners are fully aware of broken hand injuries-they generally don't actually heal.
So I'm sorry to say I think that's going to hold him back.

Your comment about breaking into an original sex locker room with established relationships is really tough.
Heck that can even be tough and rec league hockey and i'm over sixty.

I still followed Milan Lucic! There's a guy that's hard to not watch! Sorta leaves a big hole in your team! And I always had a feeling I'd be following him right back to Boston
Would not surprise me if Bertuzzi ended up back in Detroit. Seems to me he's going to be missed.
I feel so bad critiquing elite athletes in any way shape or form. It's definitely above my paygrade but we do it anyway!
Held a few in my arms back in the locker rooms when they couldn't perform at the level they wanted... Some of these guys break my heart
Hands are complicated, so many bones, tendons... Thank goodness he's not a goalie, but he's going to have to let the goalies do their jobs.
I've been waiting to hear from the Detroit Red wings- watched a few games this past season, my Saturday night excitement- you have a fun team to watch! I always get a kick out of Red wings highlights... You can see the passion & heart-even if they're falling over like the keystone cops once in awhile! I've seen my boyz do that once or twice!
you were the favored team of my (late) son goalie.
I never bought any other NHL colors other than black & gold, but I happily bought him Detroit Red wings! At least he was an original 6 hockey fan!
Even though Hextall was his favorite goalie..
I think bertuzzi will be back to Detroit... Every kid needs to go out in the world, check things out, make a few bucks and then go back home!

Unfortunately Bertuzzi is not likely to replicate the statistics he did in 10 weeks on the Boston Bruins.
He came from Detroit Red wings- to suddenly playing next to an NHL top scorer, Pasta, on an elite team that was at a record-setting pace.
There was only one way for his stats to go LOL!
If I stood on the ice with Patrice Bergeron and David pastrnak, my plus-minus rating would automatically go up just standing there picking my nose!
Of course that's not what bertuzzi was doing-but there's a reason why GM's balk at signing him-he's broken both of his hands in the last 2 years... Hands don't heal. Those snappy passes will not hold up over time, he's not Young...
He's got quite an injury history, and he's not a two-way player.
But what tells me that I'm happy to wish him the best of luck, yet not going to miss him? He defected to Toronto Maple leafs!
He was foolish enough to sign with the NHL team with the longest Stanley Cup drought! 😆
I don't trust that hockey players vision... And unfortunately I would not trust his hands over long-term contract.

My understanding that he broke both of his hands within about a year?
At his age, that's not going to go well for contract negotiations. But he's also looking for a long-term contract under very difficult cap restraint season...
Anything can happen in his career.
Yet GM's scouts and coaches are going to balk at a player that's recently broken both of his hands, at his age.

Yeah enough about luchak. If people could have some respect, especially after how he had to leave, his father's death and everything going on.
But I have been so sick to death of watching Bruins got tossed around like rag dolls ever since Nick Ritchie was traded and never replaced.
And I'm a bit confused about Bruins fans who thinks that Looch is going to end up on a top-line? That's not his role. By now you should know Don Sweeney brings an older veterans, tells the young prospects to knock them out of their positions. These are player coaches on ice
No way in hell would Matthew Tkachuck even have tried putting Freddy into a chokehold on his back if Milan Lucic had been sitting on the bench
It made me sick watching pasta get flattened and tossed around like a rag doll while trying to pass the puck to Jake debrusk during the hurricane series. We had our 5 ft 9 inch little rat trying to play enforcer, sitting in the sin-bin instead of scoring position
I am not a Sweeney hater, massive respect for the hockey player and GM-however that was my major criticism of him the last two years, he's bringing up elite players, veterans that need protection. We have had no enforcer
It's interesting how gentleman Patrice Bergeron is such a nice guy when he's had Zdeno Chara watching his back for his entire career
And it's interesting that after Chara left, and even Nick Ritchie traded, that suddenly bergeron's taking all these cheap shots, 4 high sticks in the eye last season? We haven't seen that before
Brad Marchand and his grit Captained this team to win the first three out of four games against Panthers.
Gentleman's game came back with Patrice Bergeron, we proceeded to lose two out of three games and Tkachuk had a field day with our goalie and putting players in chokeholds, because he knew damn well we were not responding, we did not have an enforcer and he took full advantage. I don't blame him
I think even the refs were surprised the Bruins did not respond.
All we need is a lucic sitting on the bench, and our scorers can get to work- he changes the psychology of a game.
Few modern Bruins fans understands the concept of Milan Lucic coming back to home ice -how that changes a player's game
Especially in the city with top trainers, rehabs, sports medicine and nutritionists
-the same ones that kept Patrice Bergeron and elite older athletes likeTom Brady going. The sports medicine in Boston is something modern fans take for granted and don't understand how often it's a big draw for elite veteran players.
But you can't make Boston fans happy, they're too bipolar at this point-I'm part of the Bruins Nation 5,000 miles away
They keep going after old players calling them washed up Haifa and they did that to Patrice Bergeron last season 2 weeks after he won the selke award
Brady? first we heard people bitching about the fact that he was too young to quarterback a team, got his first super bowl ring at 24... Then we had to hear them bitching about he was too old and they finally chased him out of New England
Where he went on to win another Superbowl all washed up and old!
So it gets a little irritating with Boston fans that keep going after older players-with Boston's history regarding older players.

😂😂😂 no he wasn’t! Not even close! He was an inconsistent player who has never played a full NHL season. He has had ONE good year statistically. He was injured more than he played, especially in the last 3 seasons..out of a possible 246 regular season games, he was injured for 119 of them..that is about a season and a half. He didn’t want to sign long term with Detroit (as has been reported by multiple sources..he did the same thing to Boston) so Yzerman shipped him out. To call him the heart of the team when he was barely there, is straight up ridiculous. Larkin is hands down the heart and soul of the Wings. He carries the team on his back and plays his heart out every single shift. There’s a reason he’s the captain and Bertuzzi is gone.

@@ValhallaRaven if you look carefully - he was without a doubt the most popular player with his teammates - they really responded to him that is undeniable. As far as him being the heart - one would hope not, he was not a good defensive player at all and his new coach was pretty aware of that. I always knew he would be a great playoff performer - he does a lot of little things well - particularly his stick is really active and chips and pokes loose pucks - they do not show up in statistical columns but you love him on your team. All that taken into account - he wanted big money and long term - with history of bad back - he is a below average skater which is going to really start to show up as he moves into his 30s - I wished they had traded him at the deadline the year before when he scored 30 goals he would have gotten the most return - but he was the anti -vaxer. it was probably a good idea going to toronto - he will probably play with Marner, Mathews - give them some protection and he will probably put up his best #s ever and then really get a big $ deal next year

Not even close. Are we forgetting the vaccine stance incident? Where he chose himself over his team and forced the team to play without him for the entirety of their games in Canada? If he was the heart of the Wings, he would have manned up and done what was best for the team. That's not to say the team didn't love him, but when you're selfishly sitting out games, no matter the reason, you can't be considered "the heart of the team".

      I think you're right.
Leafs don't have Spencer carberry anymore, the assistant coach responsible for their franchise-record setting power play last season, and nylanders career-high 40 goals and 87 points
He's going to be bench boss for Alex ovechkin, Max pacioretty, t.j. oshie and Backstrom-I'm thinking nylander might follow him.
Ovechkin's contract is up in 26, Caps are going to make some serious playoff runs the next two seasons... They've been gearing up. And they wanted Spencer carberry back-and when he returned, apparently he stepped in to help the Hershey bears win another Calder Cup
That used to be his team, so he knows the prospects. Why the leafs gave him up? I have no idea... I'm a bear 🐻
I think the leafs stand a good chance regressing.
It will be very interesting to see what the leafs look like without Spencer carberry.

Lol! Don Sweeney got David pastrnak at a discount. He's a top NHL goal scorer, doesn't make what McJesus and Matthew do, because he gave a loyalty contract. He put the team first. He could have gotten over $12.25 mil per year from many other franchises
And after he gets through paying all the idiots in the USA, the NHL, taxes and every city where he plays a game-and then czechia takes out their chunk, about $3.5 million of his $11.25 mil ends up in his bank account. And he takes care of a big nuclear family.
David pastrnak is a bargain. He absolutely did not bleed his lines dry-Brad Marchand refuses to take more salary than Patrice Bergeron. You're trashing loyalty players...
Who are playing at a pretty good discount because they want to be on the Bruins.
Why don't you check out zachas stats? We have two Norris trophy contenders and a vezina winner on our defense?
Perhaps with an enforcer back on the ice, which we haven't had since Nick Ritchie left-are scores can stay out of the sin-bin, and are 5 ft 9 in rat won't have to run around playing enforcer.
You think Patrice Bergeron would have taken for high sticks in the eye and one season with Chara or Lucic on ice?
Tyler bertuzzi came from the Detroit Red wings to play on a line with a top NHL goal scorer on the team that was at a record-setting winning Pace? How could he go wrong?
Have you looked at his statistics over his career?
What sane general manager is going to sign a twenty-eight-year-old hockey player that has never played a full season, has broken two hands, and is not a two-way player?
Look over his career stats, he's never going to get those stats again.
And that's the Bruins specialty. They did that with Matt donato-brought him in straight from the Olympics hot and on fire-put him on the top line with Marchand and Bergeron, got his plus-minus ratings way up... Then traded him.
Players coming up from lower teams count on the Bruins increasing their plus-minus ratings and value. That's why they sign for cheap because when they walk out of the franchise, they're going to have more value simply by taking the ice next to Patrice Bergeron and David pastrnak
I wouldn't sign bertuzzi for more than a 2-3-year deal, and I wouldn't give him over 4 million until he proves he can hit those stats on a lower team, and play a full season!
      -broken hands don't heal.
That's the first thing needed in hockey players skills-their hands.
And then you have to be healthy enough to show up on ice to use those hands. He has no consistency in attendance
He's got two strikes against him.
