I appreciate how you articulate your thoughts in your reviews. There is so many people who do these reviews and they repeat themselves ad nauseam. So, thanks and keep up the great work.
I'm with you on not enjoying playing games on my phone. But it goes even further with me: I don't like playing my Switch in handheld mode, and the only solely-handheld system I ever owned, a Game Boy Pocket, was really not my thing, so I sold it pretty quickly. I'm glad that we're getting more and more options to play solely handheld games on larger screens, because it's allowing me to catch up on some great titles I missed.
Im like that too. 99% of the time, my switch is docked. I have tales of the abyss on the DS and can't get into it. I'm really hoping more of these types of games come to console so I can play them. Tiny screens don't make me want to keep playing
For me it's the total contrary. I don't like playing on my phone, but I really like playing in handheld with my Switch, especially if it's a game with a lot of text to read like a JRPG or visual novel. I can't see me buying another console who I can only use it on a TV.
I started this on the phone and it was fun, but I don’t love phone controls 😕 I enjoy phones with controllers just fine, but not phone controls. Very happy to see this on PC’s/Consoles! I LOVE the diorama art style.
This game is incredible. I am not a mobile gamer at all, but I did Apple Arcade for a month for this game. It’s that good. So stoked to have a physical copy coming for my switch 💪🏻
Fun review from a fun reviewer. I appreciate Branden’s honest assessment of what’s great as well as what could perhaps have been done better. My Switch copy arrives tomorrow. I can’t wait to play!
I’m right there with you. I’m 40 I have two kids. They like gaming on the phones and iPads. I cannot stand it. Swiping with a finger to play drives me crazy and I just tell them I don’t want to play games that way.
Already pre-ordered and ready to play tomorrow! You're right that we should treasure when a new game made by developer veterans comes out, because it wont last forever. This has probably been my most anticipated game this year, as well as Eiyuden Chronicle was.
I'm a lot more excited after watching your and others' reviews. I've played Lost Odyssey, and really enjoyed it. Never played the Last Story however. I can't believe in addition to doing full Voice acting, they even narrated the short stories! That's almost unheard of. For me it's especially great because that was one thing I had a hard time with in Lost Odyssey. I already have a hard time reading visually, and I was on an SD TV at the time, so the stories were really hard. Without good contrast between text and background, it's also very hard for me, or the screen Reader on my PC to do it. So this is great, and almost worth supporting just for that reason.
Fantastic video! I, also, dislike playing games on my phone, so I can't wait to get my hands on this game and play it on my PC (which is a very big phone, I guess).
i loved this on apple arcade, only played about 4 hours - this game worked pretty well - I dont get angry about phone games lol bbut I am getting this tomorrow because I want to support the title, own it physically and get rid of/trade in some of the Ys games I don't love as much as their older sprite style games. I guess I'm a sucker for that older style sometimes, be it turn based JRPG or otherwise. Thank you for this video
Even though i love playing on my switch in handheld mode, i hate playing on my phone like you.. So i totally missed this game and for what i've seen, i'll definely buy it later this year. And you got a new subscriber.. great content.
I've also thought about the end of an era with Hironobu Sakaguchi. After finishing metaphor I went back and started the final fantasy pixel remaster with FFI. It's a great pallet cleanser from the 100+ hour JRPGs, plus you get to see how far the genre has come. I wonder who will take up the mantle of being the next Sakaguchi.
I played the game on Apple Arcade but didn’t finish it before I quit my subscription. I was on the fence about paying $60 to start the game over, but your point about cherishing those increasingly rare gaming experiences decided it for me.
Feel absolutely the same about mobile gaming. It's like making breakfast pancakes & eggs on a bbq grill. Yeah, it's possible, but why even go through the motions of doing it when there are better alternatives.
I tried this on iPad, since I do play SOME games on it, but usually those are games where touch is natural, like Slay the Spire or even Retro Bowl. I could not make this work for me, and I’m glad it’s getting a new chance to impress people all over again. As Square starts to move away from these games with older trappings and modern twists, games like this are a rarity. Thanks for the review, thinking I might need to secure a physical copy. EDIT: Apparently it's been available to play on the Apple TV this entire time. Not the same as a Switch or PS Portal, but far superior to touch screens.
I'd say this game and Metaphor: ReFantazio are both my GOTY 2024. Fantasian also gave me classic Final Fantasy vibes, which is saying something considering that even Final Fantasy is having an identity crisis (no hate towards FFXVI though) whereas this game is legit Final Fantasy through and through. And to think it began life on the Apple Arcade even.
I really do wish Lost Odyssey had voicework for the stories. They were usually pretty long, and while they did read like proper short stories in a book, I guess because it was in a game, it felt monotonous.
I think the reason I hate phone games is because 99% of them are over monetized gatcha type pay to win bullshit. I put my money where my mouth is and refuse to buy mobile games. Even if it’s a good JRPG I want to send the message that I want console versions. With how much money mobile games are making and how traditional games are flopping I won’t be shocked if the majority of games in 10 years are all pay to win mobile garbage
I play pokemon go and monster hunter now and thats pretty much it on mobile for me. Anything else, i complain about the touch controls and my fingers getting in the way of what im trying to see 👉
Every time I hear Sakaguchi's name, I can only think "damn, we really NEED a Lost Odyssey Remaster."
I appreciate how you articulate your thoughts in your reviews. There is so many people who do these reviews and they repeat themselves ad nauseam. So, thanks and keep up the great work.
I appreciate your positive and empathetic attitude, which can feel rare on the internet- especially in the games space.
I’m very similar to you in the sense that gaming on a phone is just a maddening experience. I’m looking forward to trying this on my PS5!
I'm with you on not enjoying playing games on my phone. I don't like OTHER people playing games on their phone!! 😡
Im like that too. 99% of the time, my switch is docked. I have tales of the abyss on the DS and can't get into it. I'm really hoping more of these types of games come to console so I can play them. Tiny screens don't make me want to keep playing

I'm biconsolual (means i play on both a tv and handheld). I play my switch in both handheld and on TV. Though I prefer TV for sure.
@@Terranigma23 Don't your arms get tired and your neck hurt?

This game is an instant classic and took me back to my childhood days of ff on the ps1. No higher praise i can give.
This game is incredible. I am not a mobile gamer at all, but I did Apple Arcade for a month for this game. It’s that good. So stoked to have a physical copy coming for my switch 💪🏻

I'm excited for this one because it looks old school but new in a way...I dunno, it just looks super neat. Asking for it for Christmas!
Looking forward to checking this game out. Love the real art models and overall oldschool vibe here. Nice review dude!
Well done, Fires, confirming again that games should be played handheld. 😁😉
If my backlog wasn't so bad I would seriously consider snagging this one. Looks great!
Great review my dude! I'll definitely be getting my hands on this one at some point in the future 🔥
I’m right there with you. I’m 40 I have two kids. They like gaming on the phones and iPads. I cannot stand it. Swiping with a finger to play drives me crazy and I just tell them I don’t want to play games that way.
Cant wait to play this! Great review!
Great review. You convinced me to buy it. Thanks and subscribed!
This is my only preorder for December. Looking forward to giving it a chance.

Lost odyssey is still an amazing game, definitely give it a try
Its a top 5 game for me. Its really wonderful.
First time seeing one of your videos. I VISCERALLY hate gaming on a phone as well. Instant sub.
Thanks for the review!!
Fantastic video! I, also, dislike playing games on my phone, so I can't wait to get my hands on this game and play it on my PC (which is a very big phone, I guess).
First game soundtrack that really got my attention was the original Fable. Loved the review and will be playing Fantasian at some point
i loved this on apple arcade, only played about 4 hours - this game worked pretty well - I dont get angry about phone games lol bbut I am getting this tomorrow because I want to support the title, own it physically and get rid of/trade in some of the Ys games I don't love as much as their older sprite style games. I'm so excited to play this game! Just need to finish Metaphor...
Even though i love playing on my switch in handheld mode, i hate playing on my phone like you.. So i totally missed this game and for what i've seen, i'll definely buy it later this year. And you got a new subscriber.. great content.
Hey Brenden, yeah that one seem quite interesting, thanks for the review :)

My final pre-order of the year, and I'm looking forward to this one. =)
Great review, I just ordered mine from square enix I intend to use the PlayStation portal to play it.
I was thinking of choosing between this and Metaphor. Maybe I'll pick this one first.
I played the game on Apple Arcade but didn’t finish it before I quit my subscription. I was on the fence about paying $60 to start the game over, but your point about cherishing those increasingly rare gaming experiences decided it for me.
Great review. I think OLED Switch handheld mode would be the perfect way to play it for me.
Loving this game so happy I waited it’s everything I wanted it to be the whole game is stunning for me 😊
Appreciate the review and coverage thanks
Great review. Fantasian sounds amazing.
Feel absolutely the same about mobile gaming. It's like making breakfast pancakes & eggs on a bbq grill. Yeah, it's possible, but why even go through the motions of doing it when there are better alternatives.
Haha I love that
I played this on mobile but dropped it after about 20 hours, excited to play this again with voice acting!
Oh shit I forgot this finally comes out on pc - so excited
I tried this on iPad, since I do play SOME games on it, but usually those are games where touch is natural, like Slay the Spire or even Retro Bowl. Sakaguchi is the KING!!
Sounds like a perfect PS Portal game!! I’m gonna grab this for sure.
I'd say this game and Metaphor: ReFantazio are both my GOTY 2024. Haha! The Marvel Gag got me.
can't wait to play this
I really do wish Lost Odyssey had voicework for the stories. They were usually pretty long, and while they did read like proper short stories in a book, I guess because it was in a game, it felt monotonous.
Play Lost Odyssey if you haven't already, it's one of the best RPGs of the PS360/Wii era.
How are you keeping up with these games Branden! 😂
With great difficulty😅😅
Fuckin awesome 🤘

play lost odyssey immediately
Still looks like a budget phone game or older point and click pc game or low budget eshop release
I'd say looks can be deceiving. It's not a graphical powerhouse, but that doesn't really matter to me.
Dude, did you see the Nintendo Life review of it? They sound like they don't how JRPGs are 🤣
It's the controls on phone games because I love handheld systems but the controls on phone games are so bad
A comment
I'm angry also just thinking about getting a call while playing a jrpg...
First, haha! But let’s goooooo
Games on phones are just cash shops
No microtransactions in the console version, can't speak for the mobile
It’s a $50 cell phone game just stop already
Nah son it's tight
I don't want to be that guy, but for me 66$ canadian seem a bit heavy
