One of my earliest childhood memories. from the mid 1960s, was seeing Princess Marina when she visited our local Council Offices. Not very glamorous for her, maybe, but so exciting for us. She had elegance, charm and style and, I believe, was much loved by the general public.
My dear late Mother’s proud memory was that of being part of the team that made Princess Marina’s wedding dress. Everyone received a piece of the material used and I have it in my memory box. ❤️

Truly an elegant lady. This coming Sunday there's to be a documentary broadcast on UK television, bizarrely titled, ' Princess Marina, the Forgotten Royal '. I have no clue as to why she would be referred to as 'forgotten'. Forgotten by who, I wonder? She died over 50 years ago so of course she's not going to be at the forefront of the public consciousness, but I would hardly say she was forgotten. However, I shall watch it and can only hope it will do her justice.
It depends on how one defines happy, it seemed to be a relationship of mutual respect, and kindness, but i think his affairs would have been a difficult area in their marriage, divorce was not an option, so she did her duty as best she could.
Wars and revolutions had toppled a number of thrones, thereby making eligible princes hard to come by, on the royal marriage market. So it was no surprise that she couldn't easily catch a husband, despite her beauty and elegance. Her older sister, Princess Olga, couldn't manage better than a cousin of King Alexander I Karageorgevich of Yugoslavia. He and Prince Paul were members of a native, upstart dynasty with no genealogical ties to established dynasties before their respective marriages.
@@ivanreyes6824 Actually if you look at old marriage certificates, all never married women were spinsters regardless of whether they were 18 or 48. In a male dominated society, a woman's status was determined by who she married. An unmarried woman had no status.
Very sad. I remember walking down Fleet st on the day she died, there was a newspaper board saying that she was ill, then as I walked further along another board stated she had died.
What a great tribute to a great woman! I love your videos so , so much. You always put so much love in your videos! For me , Marina was one of the most gorgeous and most elegant members the royal family ever had!❤️😍
As a fact always know to be MORE ROYAL THEN THE ROYALS and oh yes she was , Refined ,Educated Caring wonderful lady .A real lady but what a life for such a beautiful woman , Her children have been a credit to her Princess Alexandra is there a royal like her ,A great help to the Queen doing so very much . She like her mother INDEED MUCH MORE ROYAL THEN THE ROYALS ,
She was perfectly lovely in every respect. She won the hearts of we British because she was totally herself. No airs and graces. She put up with her gay husband without complaint. I met her daughter who seemed to me kind and if anything more beautiful than her mother.
I am an American. However for the ethno-nations of Europe, it appears that a constiutional monarchy is beneficial when paired with a Prime Minister and a parliament.
A beautiful lady, she was always referred to, by ordinary people, as Princess Marina although everybody was aware she was Duchess of Kent. As a Princess she easily out-ranked the wives of the other Royal brothers, but of course she then took her husband's rank. I remember that my parents thought she was treated shabbily by the Royals as a widow. She had to continue to work at "Royal" duties to earn from the Civil List.
That was the whole point of the civil list, now The Sovereign Grant! She had a home rent free & earnt money by carrying out Royal duties just like everyone else that benefited from the list!
Katheryne Koelker I think what she meant was Marina outranks her sister in law in royal lineage. Both Elizabeth and Alice were Scottish nobles and the other one is an American.
Everybody loved Princess Marina. Not only was she beautiful - she had class (unlike so many of the family into which she wed); she exhibited this by her attitude to her gay husband. Her daughter, Princess Alexandra, whom I met, continues this civilized tradition.
What are you talking about miserable fool, wake up. What gay husband. Stop inserting this satanic abomination of homosexuality into everything. What a miserable shame

This princess was looking really stunning and royal. Beautiful woman with a very fine taste.
These Greek prince and princess are really gorgeous: Marina of Kent, Prince Philip, Sofia of Spain.
They are all from the Danish royal family. The Greek throne became available mid 1850s I think. King of Denmark sent one of his sons to be King.

I just realized that Princess Marina was 28 years old when she married. For those times, that was "mature".
Wars and revolutions had toppled a number of thrones, thereby making eligible princes hard to come by, on the royal marriage market. Those time, it was considered spinster. Rather harsh in today's standards. But yeah, a woman was expected to be married by the age 18 to early 20's.
