This matches up precisely with my personal experience. Three years ago at Christmas I had a serious debilitating gout attack. I know exactly what triggered it: a day of sweets (cookies, egg nog, fruit cake) and beer. For me, it absolutely was triggered by alcohol and fructose (anything high in sugar). The combination is awful. I can eat all the meat or fish (including sardines) I want with no issues whatsoever. Since I've been eating mostly carnivore (about 1.5 years now), I've had no gout attacks. Previously, I had experienced three attacks so bad I could not walk without crutches for days. This is a thing of the past, thank goodness.
I have a very important comment on gout and carnivore : a) After 12 months of clean strict carnivore I had severe gout in my ankles which alternated monthly from side to side over a 5 month period. I attribute it to oxalate dumping from weight loss and the oxalates stored in fat which was utilised. It was hell. b) I have never had weak ankles nor ever hurt them before getting this long term gout. Today my ankles are better but still a little loose and have a general lack of strength. I no longer have any pain nor symptoms. c) No one deserves gout. I hope my experience assists someone to get more healthy. Carnivore is proper human behaviour.
Thanks for your post. I've had gout for three years now and hope it will go with a carnivore diet which I adopted about 10 months ago? Your story gives me hope.
I had gout from 21 to 48. Carnivore cured it within a few months. I have not had a gout attack or taken gout medication for 18 months. I was told I would be on gout medication for life.
I had several bouts of gout up until March of 2024. I went all in on carnivore for 6 months. I did have a few flare ups but the last flare up was very minimal compared to the previous ones. I had went from 226 pounds to a comfortable 190 pounds and have maintained that weight eating about 80-85% carnivore/keto diet. Haven't had a flare up since the first part of August of 2024. It feels like I have found a comfortable balance in my diet now. Cutting out processed foods, seed oils and sugars was my biggest improvement. Thank you for your video on this topic...
Carnivore Diet for a month and I've had 2 gout flare-ups and I'm taking 300 of the Allpurinol because of past history. Last attack was over a year and a half ago. Started Carnivore and already 2 attacks back to back.
Yeah I don’t have any trouble with gout these days unless I go carnivore which is bloody annoying as I think it’s generally a healthy way to go, maybe it’s not for me?
I had gout attacks for over a decade and they got worse w/ each passing year. Finally started very strict carnivore 2 years ago. The gout attacks slowly, but surely went away. However, minor flare ups did happen, but my body is so frigging sensitive to sugars that I think what triggered those light attacks was the tiny amount of sugars that come in some packaged bacon or salmon...as well as dairy products. For the last 4 months or so, I've not had any dairy and the only fish I eat are the ones I catch out of the Gulf of Mexico. Zero issues.
surely, anecdotal as everyone's going to be different. but this year i was eating carnivore, two weeks in got hit with a bad bout of the gout. no sugars, no drinking, pork/bacon/chicken/beef roast/eggs/some cheese, but two days in a row i had rib eye, and eggs. (dinner/lunch/dinner, doing some intermittent fasting). the next day i had felt a trigger and said I could feel it, i knew exactly what was starting. then the day after, full blown attack. about a week now into meds hoping it clears soon.
I was keto/lchf for around 10 years, then tried carnivore. Within 6 months got gout, 3 attacks. Reverted back to LCHF. Now ok but still high uric acid.
Long time gout sufferer, on allopurinol and in total remission for 7 years with uric acid consistently in the mid 5s before going on keto (needs to be below 6 to prevent gout). Keto for 3+ years, carnivore for the last year, insulin sensitive with fasting insulin
The moment I do a small cheat, carnivore warns me. Ice cream was a weakness, haven't had in ages, last night had a moment of weakness, OMF, felt so crap an hour later, also felt terrible this morning 😅
Been carnivore for 14 months and had some of the worst gout i have ever had. Its never gone away. Lost 15kg in first 3 months and nothing ever since. Its not gone up though. Still have a lot to lose 5foot 7inch 130kg
My problem is that having had gout and been on Allopurinol for 15 years, I adopted a low carb diet three years ago and lost 50lbs, When do I take the plunge and stop taking the allopurinol????
Many years ago when I was only 26 years old, I suddenly went from eating a standard Australian diet to being vegetarian Within only a few weeks, I developed gout in one big toe Now, 37 years later, I have been on the carnivore diet for nearly 10 months. One of my many dumping symptoms is weird pain in my ankles when I lie down Another one is, excruciating pain in my whole foot in the middle of the night
It is so much more motivating to stay on the carnivore diet when I find out information like this that explains the exact reason why it is so helpful Suresh, you are now my favourite carnivore
I honestly think its case by case. I only have flare ups if i eat red meat back to back days...i dont drink and when i did never a flare up. I also am not a beer drinker liquor only. Red meat does it everytime im down to chicken mostly...i gotta keep researching
I have gout. Its not so much the alcolol that starts flare ups. I can enjoy spirits like whisky without the slightest problem. BEER is a big no! Even non alcoholic beers cause flareups. The brewers yeast is deadly. As long as eat red meat, im fine, and i do not take alopurinol, ever. Manage it with carnivore/keto. As much as i lime sardines, they caused problems the last time i had them. Of all triggers. Fructose is the worse. G.Taubes has a good chapter on goit in The Case Against Sugar. Slainte!

Some great advice there Dr Suresh. I get the occasional arthritis/gout flare up so this is timely and interesting. Just had a third one in four years.
