Repair refrigerator low water dispenser flow, water filter problem fix.

  • This assumes you have already verified that with the filter bypass plug installed water dispenses correctly. Many refrigerators Whirlpool, Kitchen-aid, GE, Maytag among them, using the UKF8001 style filters seem to be suffering from low flow from the water dispenser. Installing a new filter does not fix the problem very long, if at all. Replacing or paying to have someone replace the $80 reservoir assembly appeared to be the only solution. However since the problem is that pins on that part aren't being pushed in far enough, another "fix" was devised. Pushing them in farther.

    My Kitchen Aid fridge suddenly had slow flow from the water dispenser. This trick fixed it in under 5 minutes... And I had some 1/2 sh40 PVC pipe lying about so it was free! Thank you, this video saved me $100s.

    Thank you! My boyfriend has spent HOURS trying to figure out how to fix this issue! I showed him your video & he ran right out to his shop to see what he had on hand to use! Ended up using a garden hose washer! THANK YOU for the video! I can see Whirlpool hasn’t put much thought into resolving this issue as we purchased our Whirlpool 2022 & you made this video in 2018… 4 years ago!

    I know this video is a few years old but THANK YOU! The water in my fridge was being dispensed so slow and I kept buying filters. I went into the garage and found a old sprinkler that had has a stake and you put in the ground, and a water hose to it. It has a rubber gasket that is the exact size in it. That fixed the problem in 1 second! Thank you again! I am so grateful!!!!

    WOW...I can't believe it. I looked at a dozen other videos that wanted to check the different valves or switch out the filter itself and then I ran across this video. I just used one of those round water hose gaskets/O-rings, which were about the size this video showed, and would you believe it fixed my slow water issue. I never would have believed it! Great video and fix for me! Thank you...

    I was ready to buy and install a new flow valve (about $100.00). However, from your video I realized that those two little pins were the problem. The PVC ring did not quite work. But I depressed each pin with a small screw driver to clear the flow. The splash in the face was worth the effort. Be sure you have a big towel handy. After reinstalling the filter the flow was greatly increased. Thanks.

    Thank you so much! I used a 5/8" rubber hose washer to fix slow flow that I'd been having for years.
    Appliance repair company was trying to charge me $600-936 to replace housing parts, "depending on which parts they ended up installing" (which probably would've just been all of them). A trip to the home improvement store and a couple bucks later, I have water flow!

    Ugh. I REALLY wanted this to work. I tried 1/2 inch PVC and a hose washer. No luck. We have the same fridge as you and have experienced a drastic reduction in water flow. It’s super frustrating. The ice side seems to be fine (fills ice maker in mere seconds) but the water side is barely more than a trickle. Would that lean more towards the water solenoid?

    I just subscribed and thanks.
    Quick question: on my second filter in 4 months. Water flows great but slow dramatically every month. I guess I will be going through 5/6 filters a month.
    Any thoughts?

    • @BobbyDotNet
      @BobbyDotNet  4 года назад

      You statements were a bit confusing, "on my second filter in 4 months", and "I guess I will be going through 5/6 filters a month.". In any case, two common possible reasons jump to mind. 1. The issue with the pins as I detailed in the video. 2. You might have some sort of silt or sand plugging your filters. You could try opening a plugged filter and looking for something coating the charcoal and plugging the filter.

      It is 1/2" pvc pipe, schedule 40 refers to the thickness of the pipe wall (sched 40 is the thicker of the two). I cut the slice to be about a thick as a dime, no thicker. You can also rub the slice on a piece of sand paper to make it thinner. It should be a little harder to screw on the filter, but only a little harder, don't use a lot of force, it's all plastic in there. If you have to use a lot of force the pvc ring is too thick. Cheers.

    Will this work on a Samsung filter?

    I tried this with a garden hose washer and it made the flow stop completely,but then when I took it off and used it as normal,the flow picked up

    Any other thoughts if this doesn't work? I did the PVC washer but thought maybe it was too thin. I tried a hose washer that is thicker but spongier and it didn't work either. Then I tried them together and still have low flow. I've also tried two different filters. Has anyone else found a solution??

      It's possible you have a slightly different problem, or even more than one problem. I found a good way to confirm the problem is only with the filter adapter (or filter) is to remove the filter and install the filter bypass plug that came with the fridge. Hope this helps.

      You sir are a genius! Just tried this and it completely solved my issue. I been dealing with this for over 2 years and thought it had to do with the aftermarket filter brands. After going through several types of filters I gave up and suffered with the slow flow. I watched your video last night, sliced up a piece of 1/2” sched 40 pvc this morning, and wouldn’t you know it, it completely resolved the issue. Very much appreciate the info.

    What’s the best way to cut it so thin?

    • @BobbyDotNet
      @BobbyDotNet  4 года назад

      Cut it as thin as you can with a saw, if not thin enough rub it on a piece of sand paper to make it thinner. Or find a friend with a power saw.

      Yes, thank you. I am lucky I found this video with the same filter system. I tried a different one a year ago and nothing changed, the problem was still there. OMG! Aftet 1 year I did it. Plus, I already had the pvc pipe necessary. So, I didn't have to go buy one. Zero cost for me...hehehe 😆
      So happy!
