Not only did your video save me $$ from calling a repair man… u spoke so clearly and at JUST the right tempo for me to comprehend exactly what u were saying. BUT, fast enough to hold my short attention span! U REALLY should make this a full time job. I hope you’re in the teaching field. I just wish I had more teachers when I was in school that made things as easy to understand as u did here. TYSM! Truly, thank you thank you!
This video is so much better than the others. 15min+ videos that take 10 minutes to say the line is frozen. Well done.
I can’t believe I fixed the problem and it cost me nothing! I opened the fridge doors to examine the water line at the bottom. I separated the water lines and water came out from one end. My son said to leave the door open to see if it would defrost on its own. After about 20 min I closed the door and pressed the water dispenser and a piece of ice shot out. I’m so happy I didn’t have to pay a fortune! 😂😅
THANK YOU I just tried your method and it WORKED!!
I paid a $145 service call which was supposed to apply to any repair. I looked at the video yesterday and ordered the water buddy. It worked in about 5-6 tries. It saved me the same company coming back and charging me $439 to replace the line!!!
I really appreciated your video, it saved me a lot of money (probably around $200.00). I wasn't getting any filtered water from my Frigidaire refrigerator and I did troubleshoot the problem down to a frozen water line inside the freezer door. The trouble was that nothing I tried to thaw the line out was working, that is, until I saw your video. I bought a water buddy type tool thru Amazon and it came yesterday afternoon. It cost me a total of $23.46 and it only cost that much because I paid an extra $10 for next day delivery. Prior to this, I had called a service technician and asked him about fixing the problem before seeing your video and he told me that he would charge me $80 just to come over and diagnose the problem, yet alone fix it. I envisioned him tearing my freezer door apart and finding all sorts of non-relevant problems to charge me more money. Anyway, it took 4-5 syringes of hot water to open up (bore thru) the frozen section (took about 3 minutes). Thanks again, you are a money saver. What a relief when the water started flowing again!
Thanks, great vid! FYI: I fixed my frozen water line after watching your vid in just minutes using a plastic syringe I already owned, microwaved water to boiling, put on some oven mits to protect my hands/arms and just filled the syringe with boiling water and shot it into the dispenser opening and that worked great and was almost immediate!
Important to learn why it's freezing though. In my case someone had accidentally bumped to temp control slider in the back of the fridge so the freezer was set to the coldest possible setting. Moving that slider back to normal setting fixed the problem.
This was so helpful! Fixed my problem without spending a dime. Once I understood what the problem was by seeing this video, I tried just keeping the freezer door open for a while…30 minutes later the dispenser was working. Thank you
I was going to ask about this, meaning could the fridge itself be set too cool?
I used this method with a bigger childrens syringe for medicine and going back and forth with really hot water. Saved a few bucks but thanks for your video for prompting the similar approach, worked for me. I also used someone else's idea about insulating the door with cheap hotpads to help prevent the line from getting frozen again. Thanks!
Thanks, this was very helpful in getting the water running again on my GE Monogram side by side refrigerator. I used a hair dryer on the water dispenser area, both where the spout exits the refrigerator and inside the freezer door as well. After a few minutes the water started to flow again. Many thanks for the very clear and well done video!
The root cause of our frequent freeze-up was the small solenoid that pulls the ice dispenser flap open had corrosion build-up which created friction that prevented the flaps spring from being able to snap the flap closed after ice had been dispensed. With the flap partially open, cold air leaks out near the water tube and made it freeze. It is easy to pop the control panel off, remove a few screws, remove solenoid and clean/lubricate it.
Thank you for this comment @gmaki53. I cleaned the rust on solenoid and now the flap closes fine. But the water line still freezes. I keep the freezer temp to max(5). Still no luck. Any tips to solve the root cause so I don't need to keep using a hair dryer? Thank you again.
Inzeal1, not sure what else is going on with yours. After I cleaned my solenoid mechanism, such that I could hear a thump sound when the spring snapped the flapper closed, my issue went away.
i followed your instruction to the T and along with info from other comments I resolved the frozen water line. Along with clearing the water line I even cleaned the plastic grill at the bottom of the fridge and cleaned the shelves on the door.I feel like I have a brand me fridge. Thanks for help. A trick I learned while waiting for the line to thaw is get some weed eater line .095 dia and run to through both ends of the tubing to get an idea to where the blockage is and get a blow dryer and focus on the area for much quicker results.
Dude, ………you’re my new hero! My ice was working, but the water dispenser was not. I opened the freezer door and took and old quilt and covered the freezer compartment to keep it cold. I left the freezer door open for about 45 minutes and viola, the water dispenser worked like it was supposed to. Thanks for posting this video.
I know it's not a permanent fix but this was so helpful! We have flowing water again now. Thank you!
Thank you for this! Looks like your fridge is the same model as mine. That made the fix easy! 😄 I also noticed that my freezer was WAY below 0 degrees F. I just adjusted it to a higher temp. Hopefully that will keep it from freezing up again.
Very helpful! Helps trouble shoot the problem. Just ordered the water line buddy! I am pretty sure it is exactly what is needed!
I can't say that this will fix my issue but now I have another way of trouble shooting my fridge. Excellent
Thank you sooo much!! Was not a pump issue just the line was frozen! I was able just to unplug the fridge and open the doors for about 30-45 minutes.... ice chunks came flying out of water dispenser. Gonna buy the syringe and hose from Amazon just to have it on deck for a quicker solution
Very well made video and was very useful for me. I couldn’t do the pump test initially because I couldn’t detach the pipes like shown in the video. So I turned off the power to the refrigerator for 30 minutes and water dispenser started working again😊. 👍
Thank you so much! This was very helpful!
Like the comments suggested, I simply opened the door for five minutes. Then I used a syringe that comes with any medicine, put boiling water in it, and squeezed it up.
It fixed it within a few minutes!
No extra purchase needed.
Without the insight of the video, I wouldn’t have understood what was causing the problem and known how to fix it.
Seems like that might work if the freeze is just barely above the exit point - if its frozen higher up though I assume you need the tubing to reach it
Great video! You can make the tool yourself with a syringe and piece of tubing. It took me 40 tries to break through all the frozen ice. Finally have water again a year later
Thank you for pointing out the front grill for the water line to test. Going to test that now!
This is the exact fridge I have that’s in this video. Thanks for the awesome video, this is the exact fix I need because after separating the water line at the bottom I still have water flow so the door line is definitely frozen. Thank you so much!
I had the same problem. I filled a 2 cup measuring cup with warm water, used a Turkey syringe and unscrewed the needle using only the plunger section 💉 similar to the one used in the video.
I placed the measuring cup with warm water under the dispenser to catch the water as I blasted warm water into the water line directly from the plunger end of the syringe.
After a few water blasts the dispenser started to work again.
You Rock!!! I replaced the water valve at the back left of the frig thinking it was that. since Ice was working... No dice, so I then suspected it was my control board but all test were good... So I kept wondering what else it could be as I did here a click of the relay when the water actuator was pushed in...Never knew of this location... didn't have the hose, but did have a syringe with hot water and walaaaa! it worked🤩 ... So now I've turn the frig to a higher setting as not to have this happen too often😁
OMG! Thank you so very much for this video. I was able to take the time to get a problem that I thought was forever broken.
Thank you thank you! Last time this happened we had to pay $200 for a professional to help. FYI the product link you have is not available. There’s a different Water Line Buddy kit available though.
I looked at all the videos on this repair. It was indeed frozen or plugged. I pulled the face plate off of the front of my icemaker. Three screws hidden by the removable tray. Unplugged the electrical to the face plate. I then pulled the hose out of the dispenser nozzle. I then disconnected the quick release fittings and pulled the hose out the bottom of the door. It was full of ice. Cleaned it out and reinserted the hose in the bottom of the door. Will need someone to hold a light to get the hose back in the dispenser. Hooked hose back up at bottom of door. Cut water back on. ( yes make sure water is off incase you bump the switch). Had plenty of water. Also cut my freezer temp back a little and hope it don't freeze again.
I was very skeptical but took the gamble before having to shell out a $150 service call and suprisingly it worked!
Thanks man, this video saved me from buying a new water pump cheers!
What if the water does not come out in the first phase, recommend something when water pump is not working?
I fixed this for free by simply putting all my frozen food into a cooler, turning the freezer control to the off position, keeping the freezer door open, and allow the door to warm to room temperature, thus thawing the water line. No need to call for a repair, and no need to buy a syringe!
Hey I just wanted to thank you for this fix!
I opened the valve at the bottom like you said and I think it must have been blocked as it worked as soon as I put it back together! Thank you
It was exactly what was wrong with mine but I did a little bit different. I used a heat gun on the tip, where it dispenses out of the refrigerator on and off without melting it, and it heated up enough to melt the ice through the line ,then I used weedeater string to put through it to see if it was clear and the water works. Perfect thanks for Sharing . make sure your freezer is not on the highest setting that will also cause The waterline to freeze.
I have an Ikea fridge (made by Whirlpool) with the dispenser inside the fridge on the left side. The freezer is a drawer at the bottom. So far the only water lines I can find are on the back of the fridge. The inlet is at the bottom right corner, and there are lines going from there to the filter (and back), the dispenser, and the ice maker. The one from the filter to the dispenser felt cold to the touch, the rest are room temp. I'm not sure if I need to remove the panel at the bottom to get to where I can detach lines, but I'll try the tool when it comes tomorrow and see if I can get enough warm water in there to melt the ice without disconnecting any lines first.
Thanks to Water Buddy and Thanks to you for the video! That couldn't have been easier.
Thank you for the video
Just ordered my Water Line Buddy, coming tomorrow
The water dispenser is a vital part of my family water intake, so need to get this working again
I have raised the temp from 34 to 38 to see if it would help, it is better but not 100%
Looks like they need to insulate the water line to prevent it from freezing
What if no water is coming out of the line when you disconnect the two water lines? I did take out the filter and the water is coming out where the filter is but not at the water drain.. any suggestions? Would the water line buddy work with this issue?
Great video that helped. I used hot water in an infant medicine dispenser syringe. It worked. Thanks.
This video was very helpful for me, because I have the same refrigerator. Good job
You a true pleya. I just gona fix mine like this now. Thank you!!! Great video by the way 😊
What do you do if no water comes out of the hose once you’ve detached it?
I'm having this problem on a Frigidaire. I think the line is frozen on the other side or in the reservoir on the fridge side. I'm leaving my fridge doors open and hoping that it thaws out.
Inject hot water into the lines, or use hair dryer to blow hot air into it?
Appreciate you for this video. What I did was I took a 10cc syringe attached a cannula from an IV catheter and flushed it with a hot water couple of times and it worked! I work in the medical field by the way that is why I have that stuff with me.
This definitely did the trick man. But I also ran the hose up from the bottom. And it me like 8 tries to finally get it unfrozen.
I had this problem, tried the whipper snipper cord, but what ended up fixing it was give it a blast afterwards with a tooth flossing waterpik with warm water in it.
This worked. I had a syringe and got tubing from ace hardware. It took me over 20 minutes to de-ice with just hot water. I also shot hot water in from both ends: the dispenser and the bottom end of the tubing (part that you disconnect) where water would come out if there was no blockage and you shot water in through the dispenser. So if you don’t see water coming out your problem is probably still ice blockage and it may take some time for you to clear it.
Thank you for the video.
Hubby almost swear we have to get a new fridge. (We can use a new one but not really needed)
My older GE profile makes ice, and when water dispenser button is pressed it seems to make noise like water is flowing SOMEWHERE but not into my cup. Nothing on the floor. I just defrosted overnight and cleaned the whole refrigerator. Immediately when I turned it on, it still sounds the same when the water button is depressed. Sounds like water is flowing somewhere. Surely it was defrosted after being unplugged 18 hours.
Did you figure it out? Mine does the same
@@Testestesti yes, from the valve on the back, the line heads up and into the refrigerator (making several coils) for chilling of the water. Then back down and towards the bottom of the front door. My line had rotted/broken near the valve in the back. It was spraying water into the condensation pan. Some was getting on the floor.
I found in my refrigerator, the cooling can where the water sits to be cooled had frozen lines. I took out this reservoir with the two tubes on it, jay it in the sun for a minute, then fixed a tyre pump on one end of the reservoir and pump air with pressure trough it to blow out the blockage. That wax it.
Como evitar que se siga congelando la linea del agua?
Nice video. Only note that there is no pump but only a magnetic valve in the back. The water flows from the pressure in the line.
Thank you. I didn't know there is no pump. I always heard some whining noise and assume that's a pump. Thank you for sharing.
@@travelingtrex4897 that is of course only the case for fridges with water hose connected, not for those with water tank.
Hi I have the opposite: I can get the cold water, but the ice make water tube frozen. I know it since once I cut off the power for a day, it will make ice again. Then stop to making it after first full box of ice. Can you help how to unfrozen the ice maker water tube?
This will work, but, sometimes it'll only be very temporary. GE refrigerators have a manufacturer defect. Not enough insulation in the door, around the water line. This has been going on for years. In this case, you must install a water line heater. They are a pain to install because of the large wire taps. the heaters will last about 2 years, maybe.
I have to go back to a house next week because I thought I had the problem fixed using a water buddy only. Got to install the heater. :(
Would putting some insulation by the inner doors help?
great! Thanks for getting right to the point :)
Excellent job guide, thanks
So I tried this method, but when I pulled the tubes apart at the bottom, the water didn't flow leading towards the door. From your video I'm guessing I have a bad pump then? I just noticed you didn't mention what to do if your water didn't flow into the bowl.
Based on the comment from other comments, there isn’t a pump but a switch that allow/stop water from flowing.
Does your freezer still create ice?
Great video!!!!! I can't wait to try it.
Felicitaciones, muchas gracias.
I didn't have the kit but I used one of the injectors for turkeys. I had the needle on it and squirted the water from the top, filled it up twice and I'm all set.
Who woulda thought the water line could freeze? So I bumped up the temp to 40F and after about 10 hours, the water dispenser started working!
Crazy! The fridge temp has been set at 34F for 6 years!
Thanks is help me a lot wonderful job. Amazing 👏
How can you push on the connector AND pull on the two lines?
I used my thumb and index finger to push while rest of my fingers grab the pipe and move away from my thumb and index finger.
I used a small wrench to push up while pulling tube out - works great
What if there is no nozzle sticking out of the dispenser? I stuck my hand up there and cant feel any kind of nozzle to put the syringe into
Thank you for showing your experiences..that is very big help ..❤❤❤
Mine usually freezes everytime we get below zero temperatures
Muchas gracias.
The water line freezes because of the lack of insulation in the freezer door. The line will continue to freeze if it is not addressed. Has anyone explored disassembling the freezer door and insulating the water line?
Just what I was looking for, thank you.
Thanks for the video. Do you know why the fridge water line suddenly keeps getting frozen? Although your solution is great, I am looking for the root cause of the issue, to avoid using syringe everyday
I believe cold air leaked around the water pipe as the freezer aged, causing water to freeze. People may add a heating element near the pipe to keep it from freezing.
Probably faulty thermostat
Worked a treat .... great upload! :)
Ive a similar Samsung fridge Ive Ice and no water changed the filter still no water from dispenser, I took off the panel down the bottom and disconnected the valve like in the video here and no water squirts out of the pipe when I press in the water dispenser, I can hear a noise like a motor whirring when I press it in...Ive already changed the solenoid in the back of the fridge saw that in another video so at this stage Im really puzzled...as i no its not the filter and the solenoids where replaced only thing i can think of is a blockage in the pipe that runs from the solenoid along the front of the fridge...wonder if I disconnect it from the solenoid and use a syringe on the part that he had disconnected in the valve in the video at the front of the fridge would that flush any blockage? I mean surely if the water is getting to the icemaker then it should be getting to the dispenser? its defintely not frozen..
Very helpful. Thank you!
awesome video. thank you!
What is the real issue is though? This more like a quick fix. Why is the water line keep freezing? Is this an older model that doesn’t have a heater inside the door to prevent the water from freezing? This is so annoying that it always repeats
What are you calling a water pump? These run off of water pressure of the incoming water. There is a solenoid that opens and closes to allow the water to flow.
You can use a hairdryer and it will work immediately.
Thanks!
What if we opened it and accessed the water line and it’s not frozen?
Thank you
But if you could hear it’s making ice. Is it still because of the frozen line?
My frozen line was at the front. And I think even when it was frozen, it could make ice.
Thanks
This looks like my Frigidaire. This did not fix my issue but I instead used blow dryer and a funnel to channel the hot air into the tube. Eventually it unfroze.
I guess this is just a temporary fix though. It will freeze again if there is an underlying issue. Like the fridge being too cold or poorly insulated
What if it IS the water pump?
I shoot the hot water without disconnect the hose under the fridge and when I push de dispenser now the water come out forme the inferior part of the fridge! 😭 help!!!
Thank you!!!!
Nice video, well done
Does this actually work
Thanks for the detailed information. I will try it.
Wow thank you
But WHY is it freezing? What is the root cause? Nobody wants to syringe their fridge over couple days when it refreezes....
Mine has been freezing every day. I already defrosted the line and it re freezes overnight. My Frigidaire side by side is 12 years old so I believe the insulation in the door is wearing down. I’m going to try the GE in line heater from Amazon it’s less than $10, the Frigidaire in line is $375-575. It may not work if the line is frozen too far down the door which I suspect. In that case I’m going to remove the inside door panel and re insulate around the plastic tubing with refrigerant line insulation. They sell it at big box hardware stores. I’m determined to fix this and I’m not spending what Frigidaire wants
One cause is the flap for the ice dispenser doesn't seal properly allowing cold air through to the water spout. As another commenter said this can happen if a bit of ice props the flap open.
Make sure you have proper temperature in freezer
Well unfortunately since I'm still paying on mine I can't work on it myself n I just got it back from the fridge n freezer not working when it left the water n ice worked now it doesn't it goes all the way into the fridge but doesn't go into the water dispenser 🤷. I surely don't want to wait another month just to get the damn ice n water working at this point I'm about to tell them to take the piece of crap back because it's problem after problem 🤦
What if water don’t come out while pressing the button
Anyway to keep it from freezing? My fridge just started doing this about a month ago. Before that it was fine. Anyone know why it would start freezing the line all of a sudden?
If it happens often, it's likely due to the problem in the insulation of the waterline.
One might look into installing the GE waterline heater, or have the door replaced if it's still under warranty.
Also check if the freezer temp is set too cold.
You may have some ice getting stuck in the ice section dispenser shaft louver (round gate). This will allow very cold air to escape from the freezer and get into the section where your water line is located. This is what happened to me. I had to use the syringe and hose to melt the ice blockage..Try cleaning the area around the gate and where it seals and then make sure your gate closes properly after dispensing some ice, especially at nite before going to bed. Hope this helps you...
nice to meet you friend...
Yep, It was the flapper. I would of never know to check that!
Flapper as in?
add a piece of insulation (any kind) with double sided tape to the back area of the water dispenser on the inside door of the freezer. Give it a few minutes and NO MORE ISSUES. Does not look great BUT only you see it and it works long term.
Where do you apply it, ours is now freezing regularly
@@thatredheadannie tape to back of freezer door about 4inches by 3 inches of insulation ( i used Styrofoam from a package)just below the hole that the ice goes into.
Even simpler: Turn the temperature of the refrigerator up several degrees and wait 3 to 4 hours. Frozen line will defrost.
of course we have the same fridge LMAO
I don't think so
What if you just unplug your fridge for an hour so the water line thaws out?
I don't know how long it will take for the unplugging to work. I like my food enough in my fridge/freezer to not try it. But if you have an empty fridge, that can be a solution.
@@travelingtrex4897 It worked, I unplugged it for an hour and the lines thawed out. Problem solved.
@@mikemontemurro8088 Great to hear that it worked for you!
