I made my ZV1 more like an SLR - Review of the Gizmon ZV1 Extension tube and wide angle adapter

  • The ZV1 is a great camera, but it has its limitations. Some people think that the ZV1 isn't wide enough. The Gizmon extension tube and wide angle adapter helps solve this problem, giving a wide image, even with stabilisation turned on. You can also use the set up to add various filters to the ZV1 (like ND or CPL), a macro lens and a lens hood. What's more it all easily disassembles and packs away, keeping the ZV1 small and pocketable. I was lucky enough to be provided with the extension tube and wide angle adapter by the company, but this is not a sponsored video and my own opinions are expressed.

    I love the Ulanzi wide angle/macro lens combo, but the adhesive for mounting is not ideal. The weight of the lens when attached to the ZV-1 barrel is also an issue that can't be ignored. Both combined, the lens falling off when filming it hot Florida weather is just inevitable. All reasons why this gadget is very interesting to me. The down side is that it will not work with the popular and versitile UURig cage, which I have and love. I may try this and a SmallRig L-bracket in the future. For now, I'm going to use 52mm Magfilter magnetic adapter which allows use the Ulanzi wide angle lens, or a much lighter ZOMEI wide angle lens. Swapping out lenses is super easy and the UURig cage stays. It really is amazing what you can do with the ZV-1 with just a few simple/inexpensive accessories. Such a great camera. Thanks for the review!

    What a pity! One Amazon review said it couldn't be used with a rig cage where the rig has a ring around the lens area. 😢

    So is the lens of the ZV1 pushing against the apparatus? So are the motors working against the attachment. It seems like the ZV1 lens is pushing something out. I don’t understand how everything is connected.

    • @Big-GVideo
      @Big-GVideo  2 года назад +1

      The lens isn't under strain by the attachment. The attachment can move to accommodate the change of lens size

    Hey, friend. Thank you very much for this. I'm looking into wide angle lenses options for the ZV-1, and this is very great information! Excellent video :)
    I wanted to ask you, do you think the zv-1 is usable on a gimbal, or with a selfie (extendable) stick? Or with the tripod the accessory kit brings?

    Hey there, great video! Just wondering if the extension tube adds any additional weight to the motors, and if that could cause potential longevity problems in the long run?

    • @Big-GVideo
      @Big-GVideo  2 года назад +1

      I don’t think it does at mounts nicely against the ring bit of the ZV1 . It doesn’t touch the lens itself. Long term, I’ve not been using it long enough, but think it’s okay

    Hey friend. Thank you again for this video. It's a great reference :)
    I wanted to know, on the topic of ND Filters, can you use a 52mm nd filter with this tube extension? Or does it have to be 49mm? (Apparently, the appropriate one for the ZV-1 is a 52mm one).

    • @Big-GVideo
      @Big-GVideo  Год назад

      Hi there. The filter thread is 49mm, so either a 49mm ND or a larger ND with an adapter (e.g. a 49 to 52mm adapter) will work.

      I think if you need macro/close up, want extra protection of the lens of need to add filters then yes. Only this set up can give you those. There are other ways to get a wider shot and personally the wider angle isn't a 'must have' for me

      The ZV-1F doesn't have a lens that comes out. This has been designed to work with a pop out lens, so I don't think it would work. Only a guess as I've not got the ZV-1F
