    Our Ryan's in Wooster shut down last year and was eventually demolished to make room for a new Aldi store to be built. I ate there a few times - it just wasn't worth it. I still remember whenever someone had a birthday, the waitresses would come out of the kitchen (the first one would be carrying an ice cream sundae), and they would stand around the birthday guest's table, clapping their hands and singing a birthday song.

    Ryan’s Buffet was part of Ovation Brands (Formerly Buffets Inc). Their sister brands are County Buffet, Old County Buffet, and Hometown Buffet. They have gone through a couple of bankruptcies and eventually bought by Food Management Partners, a company known for closing lots of restaurants in a very abrupt manner. Sometimes they didn’t even tell their workers they were closing and then they had someone come in the middle of the night come in and take the equipment out. The workers came to work and found a locked door and their keys no longer worked.

    • @WallieB26
      @WallieB26  5 лет назад +2

      That is the worst way to do something like this. They dont even have the courtesy or courage to tell their employees they will be losing their jobs. No heads up as so they can look elsewhere. No, they just close it while no one is around to avoid everyone like a coward.

      Shamara Myers I grew up in here in Johnstown when my grandparents adopted my sister and I. The sad thing is Johnstown is such a financially depressed area it qualifies for government aid. Everything around here is closing but the only thing the city officials care about is putting money into their own pocket. The mall used to be packed with people on the weekends and now there is almost no one at the mall anymore. The city is gonna be a ghost town if something doesn’t change soon.

    We have high property taxes school taxes and it is a depressed area. I probably will walk away from my home because I do not think I can sell it. Also we were burdened with sewer refurbishing if you want to call it that. So that might be why we do not eat steak the other is you can make steak at home. I avoid steak houses like the plague.

    • @nickieh2735
      @nickieh2735 5 лет назад

      Row Deo even if you could sell it you probably wouldn’t get close to what you paid for it. My parents are facing the same thing right now and the fact that they want everyone to put in a new sewer system is ridiculous. It’s almost a way for them to trap you into staying in the town. City officials only care about putting money into there pockets as well. The sad thing is people are having to come out of retirement just to survive in Johnstown.

    I worked for Ryan's from 1998 to 2001. It was a poorly ran company but it had the best steaks! The reason it faded was because they got rid of the steaks and went all buffet. Then they sold out to Buffets, Inc. Then they went bankrupted like 3 times. Then it got weird. According to Wikipedia Ryan's had "16 restaurants in 11 states as of February 22, 2019." Use to be over 350.

      Yeah everyone here is glad to see the Coney island is back open but a lot of people said that the food didn't taste the same when the new owners took over which is operators of Miller's tuxedo rentals on Main Street , they reopened it because they knew how much the shop meant to everyone here and they didn't want to see it be closed down. But from what I've heard the founder of the shop took charge again and got back his sauce recipe that he gave up after the shop closed since Miller's wasn't doing a great job.

    I'm a Johnstown, Pa. resident and it's a lot of stores are closed here. The town is a town for a lot of retirees. Great schools. The jobs are scariest here. I assume you've read the story about the 1889 flood and 1937 plus the 1977 flood. Read about the town it's very interesting. And yes stay out of the abandoned building here. Enjoy your stay.

      Antoinette Bush Johnstown does not have good schools. A lot of the students are passed even if they need to be held back and the schools don’t work with the kids like they should. Their is so much bullying in those schools including teachers bullying their students it’s sickening. The students have very few recourses and the schools don’t bother to help them like they should. Unfortunately Johnstown just isn’t an great place to be at all not even for most retirees. A lot of the older people are struggling and can’t even really afford to live in Johnstown much more. Have you been to the national flood memorial? That’s really gone down hill too. Unfortunately Johnstown is going to turn into a ghost town if changes aren’t made soon.

    Every time i go around the mall i see Ryan’s, just empty, nothingness, wondering what it would be like if it were reopened, never been in Johnstown long enough to to see it open.

    My hometown had Ryan's Steakhouse. It closed with no notice. I was very upset. A lot of great people working there and a lot of great costumers. It was a great place to eat. Still bothers me that it closed in 2016.

      Mainly just Johnstown, go to a neighboring city like Altoona and they have plenty of restaurants, stores etc. We often make a day of going somewhere outside of Johnstown on the weekends since there isn't much here anymore.

    I loved Ryan's - used to go all the time vacationing in SC. Unfortunately we don't have one in FL. FYI - it's not a Steakhouse, they served it... but it was a buffet restaurant.
    If you want a good steak - check out Texas Roadhouse if there's one there!
