The Piano Sonata BB 88 (Sz.80) is a piano sonata by Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, composed in June 1926. 1926 is known to musicologists as Bartók's "piano year", when he underwent a creative shift in part from Beethovenian intensity to a more Bachian craftsmanship.
The work is in three movements, with the following tempo indications:
It is tonal but highly dissonant (and has no key signature), using the piano in a percussive fashion with erratic time signatures. Underneath clusters of repeated notes, the melody is folklike. Each movement has a classical structure overall, in character with Bartók's frequent use of classical forms as vehicles for his most advanced thinking. Musicologist Halsey Stevens finds in the work early forms of many stylistic traits that became more fully developed in Bartók's "golden age", 1934-1940.
Bartók wrote Dittának, Budapesten, 1926, jun. at the end of the score, dedicating it to Ditta Pásztory-Bartók, his second wife. A performance generally lasts around 15 minutes. Bartók wrote the duration as around 12 minutes and 30 seconds on the score.
Bartok wrote this piece with an Imperial Bösendorfer in mind, which has extra keys in the bass (97 keys in total). The second movement calls for these keys to be used (to play G♯0).
Bartók had previously written a piano sonata in 1896, which is little known.

My parents: "Still not good enough, start from the beginning and play it 13x faster with your pinky toe"
Hah I had parents like “NOT GOOD AT ALL START AND REDO IT FIVE TIMES WITH YOUR NOSE”
That gives me an idea
Are your parents Jewish or Asian?
@publicguy8227i had it with my thoughts
Emotional damage
8:01 low notes out of standard 88-key piano range
Unless the studio used a Bösendorfer Imperial

Odd piece for sure, but hauntingly beautiful
8:01 but there aren't any G#0s in any 88 key piano.
I turned it to 2x speed and it sounds like a horror movie soundtrack since it's so complex
It's actually kinda funny it reminds me of a two year old throwing a fit (no offense to the creator this sounds like it took a really long time to write)
Its the hardest piano piece that can be played
Yeah
epic bartok moment
Play it at 2x speed and listen the the very first 30 seconds, it sound like some sort of music from a video game 🤣
3:20 is my fave part
Ahwe man I really thought that the first part was mystic cave
This sounds like a piece that would be playing during a bar fight in a western movie.
Reminds me of jaws lol
Oh h god
This will be the hardest music on a piano
Sorabji and New Complexity composers like Ferneyhough would beg to differ.
First, nile red. Then, nile blue, and nile green. Now, nile orange
