A different kind of video (for me!) But a handful of people have asked for this so I thought I'd give it a try! Let me know what you think about the silent hiking style compared to more of a narrative driven video.

I personally love your narration in your videos, talking us through not only the hike but what went into planning it too. This was great though, I definitely wouldn't complain about more videos like this! Also props for what must have been a couple really busy months editing all your hiking videos from this year for us to watch.

Beautiful trail, we are not big fans of the silent hiking films (Kraig Adams and Harmen Hoek). We love your narration and information. It is interesting that Kraig has gone to a split format of silent hiking and then commentary about the hike. Harmen has stayed with the silent format which leaves us wanting more information about the route and hike. We do continue to watch his videos as his video work is some of the best on RUclips. Quite the year of hiking for you and sprocket.

So happy to see Sprockets back in front of the camera, let her know she has acquired a fan base! Jupiter, nice change up to silent hiking. It's nice to let nature narrate sometimes, although like others, your narration is second to none. Thanks for taking me back to my second home in the Tetons! I read where you might return, may I add the GTNP is obviously gorgeous, if you get the chance venture out to the Alaska Basin it's also beautiful to see as permits are not needed. Thank you for all the work that you and Sprockets put in to take us with you guys on your amazing journeys this year!

Hi Jupiter, honestly I think both styles are valuable. I love hearing your narration, but this video had a pleasing peacefulness to it as well. Either way, what always comes across is your sensitivity for the landscapes though which you move as a walker and film maker. Best x

I'm happy for you, I really am. Colorado, Winds & then the Tetons Crest trail. For me, all the years; quiet, solace, solitude; your video works in my view as the scenery grabs & the viewers can use their own emotion if they wish, or not. Fox Ck. on the W side near the town of Victor, a road goes up to a TH. We did that years ago, 4 of us, a stiff climb up a sparse trail, and finally to the lip and running into hikers that had taken he tram up. Then on to Alaska Basin, the next day two in our group hiked down/out to the TH car park area; we continued on, Cascade Cyns & then Paintbrush & to String Lake. Other trips we have kayaked up String Lake, portaged and then N on Leigh Lake and then bend NW and see the glorious reflection of Moran in the water. Further on the pull out point for rock climbers. Scramble for hours up gully to a perch, then the rock climb up Moran, then back to the perch & finally back to Leigh Lake. Trips up to the G Teton are also memorable and meaningful. Up the saddle, rise very early, climb and then down before the afternoon rain or thunder. Keep doing this & it will pull you to the point that you may think of moving out West, and then there is skiing, snowboarding or winter backcountry travel & potentially canyoneering. Good luck to you, safe travels.

This is such a scenic trail! I did this trail In August. I also stayed at Marion Lake. I also Tenkara fished Alaska Basin and caught! That contrast by Sunset Lake with the fall colors was incredible! Fox and a Moose on trail! The colors in North Fork Cascade Canyon were sweet! There was only one pile of snow near the Upper Paintbrush camp boundary. Tenkara at Solitude and Holly lakes was so much fun! Thank for the fall peek!

Don’t get me wrong: this is a great video with outstanding nature. But I tend to enjoy videos more that have some sort of vocal overlay. To understand the hurdles and emotions one feels when doing such a hike better. Because this - for me - is also an important aspect. Even if it is your emotion, it’s valuable to the viewer 😊
But I don’t mind watching this style of video from time to time. Still a great way to „explore“ new things 🙏

I was absolutely amazed with your Hayduke trail, and I can't that it would have made a good silent film. With that one and some of you other ones your narration is important. You are a very good narrator, which adds to you video's.

It's great! We previously had been using a zpacks Duplex and like this a lot better. I actually have room to stretch out instead of being scrunched up like a ball at night. No condensation touching the quilt from being cramping. And about the same weight as a Duplex for all the extra space. It's like 1oz heavier but feels more like a palace which we both can live in. My only complaint would be that the the footprint is quite large, and finding spots for it to fit might take an extra moment.

Is it easier or harder to produce a “silent “ video

    • @JupiterHikes
      @JupiterHikes  Месяц назад

Way easier for me, half the effort. But that's not why I did this, I did this because some people asked for it so I though I would try it out!
The silent hiking genre places a different emphasis on getting only the highest quality. The most considered compositions in frame. Carrying more camera gear to achieve that. It is definitely a skill like a photographer with a good eye. Telling the story without the need for commentary.
On the other hand a video that is narrated should do that anyway! But then add on top the extra story, the extra information, and the extra editing to make that coherent.

Actually, I like both like different chapters in a book. One bit can be an intro with narration but when you get into the splendour of nature it has to be voiceless with emotive music. It depends.
Some I don’t like when the narrative is about the race from one camping spot to another with « I did this, I turned there, I ate that » Quite boring.
Hiking should not be a race, it should be a communion with nature not with yourself. If it were it could be done in any city.
Thanks a lot for this work, I really loved it!😊
