Steven, just wanted to say thanks for this video… just bought our first home and we’ve had some awfully applied wallpaper and liner to strip; with the hope to then paint the walls. This video has really helped ease my mind in getting the job done right…to the best of our ability! Much appreciate fella! Take care and have a cracking rest of your year!
Thank you. After watching many long winded videos about various primers and going down a hundred bunny trails. I decided I'm not going to prime my small area. I'll just do this.
I'm going to remodel my living room and dining room this month. This video was very well articulated and a great motivational tool for me. I'll be referring back to this video when I'm ready for the remodel. Ty.
Typically I watched this after painting a few rooms in the house before I put it on the market.. BUT.. this has taught me a few tricks for when I paint the new house. Thank you.
You made it look so easy Steven. I feel so overwhelmed looking at the whole house of wallpaper i need to get to.. are there a kit of essential things I need to tackle decorating?
Paintin brushes, rollers, roller poles, roller bucket. Paint kettles, dust brush, scrappers, filling knives, caulk board, caulk gun, fillers, sand paper. Decorators caulk, you will find most of it in my tool store. The link is in the description. Keep me posted with your progress.
Thanks Steven, very useful information. I am not good at DIY but now I a have an idea what is needed and can plan accordingly. Feel alot more prepared and confident.
Thanks for this video, it's really helpful. I'm currently working on a bedroom wall that's been wallpapered and painted over and over again since the 70s I reckon, so it needs a lot of work. Cheers 👍
Thank you for this video. Just moved into our new house and there’s a lot to do. This video has helped me and now I’m off to watch the rest of your videos! 😊
Great informative video mate... I've just peeled off paper in my dining room and the plaster has come away with the paper in parts..only probably 4 mill deep... and mapping everywhere...what's my best option and cheapest? I'm at a mess here,I'm no plasterer lol..plus it's a council house,I'm sure they should give it a full skim...but last time they came to different bedroom all they did was patch up the holes n cracks n left all the mapping...not right that
Give walls a good sand first, then give a coat of paint, let me know when you have done that, then I will let you know the next stage. Best of luck my friend.
Very informative video, I just have one question as I'm planning a bedroom makeover. I want to completely strip the room and paint it grey, is lining paper necessary? I'm never sure
@Blake Fletcher .Lining paper does enhance the finish and does hide a multitude of sins lol . my last video i lined a wall maybe you can look at them walls before i lined. it might help, here is the link ruclips.net/video/1a7Lo8nU0_A/видео.html
two questions please 1) am removing a wallpaper that was paste a painted walls after removing it there will be a glue residue on walls so should i wash it and scrape it or just scrape it and sand it like you did? 2) why did you use mist coat if that was painted wall?
If the glue residue is sticky give it a wash with sugar soap to be safe leave to dry and sand. If walls are bone dry after removing paper i have just sanded. To be honest i have never washed the walls down, i have just waited till the next day then sanded then, i only mist coated were the paper pulled the paint of and exposed the plaster. Before your first coat of pain don’t you have to seal the entire wall of bare plaster - not just where you have repaired cracks and damaged parts. Do you use 70/30 paint/water to seal entire wall?
@@Inexteriors I'm wanting to wallpaper a roo. For my mum, I happy with the process just unsure on the wall prep. It's a painted wall, do I have to use a primer before applying the paste. It's a paste the wall, wallpaper
To be safe put a watered down coat of paste on the wall first, its called sizing the wall. Also check on the wallpaper what paste to use you will probably need to use paste the wall paste, you can get it from b and q its comes in a tub, the brand is solvite ready mixed.
Doesn't sanding it like that tore you out. I want to do the parts of the stairs myself I have an arrythmia so this makes it very draining and can put me into it. Can I use an electroc sander
@hybrid angel .These walls did not need much sanding to be honest compared to other walls i have come across, so if you was sanding walls in the same condition then yes you can use an electric sander with a 120 grade sandpaper, but you would only give it the once over, also the sander may get a little heavy. If you need ask any more questions please ask, i may take a day to get back to you because i am on holiday and struggling for internet. Hope this helped
Top video 👍👍, much appreciated,I'm stripping blown vinyl wallpaper,it's a very large area,I hope I've not wasted my cash,I've just brought an undercoat/primer to apply after stripping, then I'll apply 2 full coats of paint,is that wise,or am I wasting my cash??,any advice would be great 👍.many thanks.
As long as it is a primer undercoat for walls, and not for wood then it should be fine. To be honest i have never used the primer undercoat for walls, i just use white matt emulsion, let me know how it goes.

I put a bit of water in the paint to touch up any bare plaster bits, just to seal the plaster, If it was all new plaster you would mist coat the walls first, with a watered down coat. It was just emulsion that i used.
When I peeled off the old wallpaper on the bedroom wall, some of the coating behind the wallpaper came off as well. Do I need to scrape all the remaining coating off or can I just leave it as it is?
@@Inexteriors Thanks for the quick replay. I have scraped all the coating off on one part of the wall that I first worked on. What should I put on next?
👍 Just found your channel and subbed as you have some great knowledge and advice. Whenever I emulsion walls I get spray onto the skirting, any tips please? Is it technique or the roller sleeve? Cheers bud
I think its the paint, i have noticed over the years some paint over sprays more than others. just take it steady, then wipe the skirting straight after you have rolled a wall if you are painting over, lets say a varnished skirting board. i have just used dulux trade on a job were the skirting boards are varnished and that gave off very little over spray.
Was the wall behind the wall paper painted or was it plaster. I've removed wall paper from a plastered wall and was wondering if there is any thing else I need to do. Great video.
@David Morley If it is bare plaster give it a sand all over with some 120 grit sandpaper to remove any bits like paper and bits of paste, then paint the bare plaster with a thinned down coat of matt emulsion, 70 percent paint 30 percent water. This video might help ruclips.net/video/UL_a0UAlMOc/видео.html these walls was not papered, but it does show how to get a finish of bare plaster.
I use the easy fill because of its versatility, ie it great for fine fillling as well as repairs around sockets after the electricians been putting back boxes in, and for chases, also it sands down easy,
Please feel free to leave a comment thankyou.
