    This is the easiest, fastest, best--est way to take down and remove wallpaper guaranteed. (Yes I said bestest!) So simple, just watch and learn and take out the headache that wallpaper removal can cause. Just make sure that after you take down the wallpaper that you paint on a enamel oil based primer paint to seal in the glue from the backing that might still be on the wall. Even if you wash the walls, there will still be a residue and the easiest way is to put a coat of enamel oil based primer on first.

    This may work for some wallpapers, but other stubborn wallpapers have become one with the wall over 30-40 years will require more than just hot water.. ADDING FABRIC SOFTENER will help dissolve the binders in the glue and it will come off as you scrape the paper away.. If there is still residual adhesive, respray it and scrape it again.. If it doesn't come off the second time, let the wall dry completely and sand it with 120 grit sandpaper and then PUTTY, PRIME, SAND and clean the wall before painting the color coat.. THEN, it will look like a professional paint job !
    Add approximately 25% fabric softener and 75% water in your sprayer. The cheap stuff at Dollar General will do !

      I sometimes do have to use a chemical remover if hotwater and softener don't work. Its funny that what works for one paper doesn't work for another. I used Diff (spelling?) in one room successfully and it wouldn't cut the glue in the other room at all. But another brand did. I am a professional and try to avoid removal but get stuck with it sometimes. Good luck to all of you. You just have to try everything! Sometimes nothing will take it off!

    Thank you so much for making this video! Two days ago I started removing wallpaper in my bedroom, and first day was terrible. Yesterday i went to google to look for tips on the internet and found your video. That spray bottle saved me hours of work. I sprayed more than one time because there were couple of layers from previous tenants, and waited for couple of minutes each time. Everything was coming down smoothly and almost no little pieces left on the wall. It really worked like magic and saved me lots of time scraping those little annoying pieces and a definite muscle ache in my arms! Thank you! It worked really really well!

    So many videos out there on the same topic and each has it's own technique! Yours cost nothing!!! No scrapers, no DIF to buy, etc, etc! Am doing my two bathrooms.......have pondered over this for some time. Pulled the paper off like you demonstrate.....had some small pieces to go back to, no big deal......then I used the hot water on the backing.....I could see it bubble up! Started at the corner and began to peel it off. Didn;t get the large pieces that you did....maybe need to let soak longer....BUT..the backing did come off very easily, with the help of a scraper. Within 30 minutes of watching your video, I had two lengths of paper (ceiling to floor) totally removed!!!!! Going after the rest of it. Thank you and Thanks, RUclips.

    Okay, so I watched this video and I said to myself that there is no way this is going to to work. As my 23 year old wallpaper started peeling, my kids decided it would be fun to see what would kind of random patterns they could make on the wall by pulling it upward. The result, I couldn't take it any more and just started peeling off the top layer as in this video. Having nothing to lose I grabbed my 2 gallon pump sprayer (I usually use this for weed kill), rinsed it out, filled it up with hot water and started spraying. At first it didn't go so smoothly so I decided to let the water permeate for about three to four minutes and then put another misting on top, and sure enough, the wall paper came right off just like in this video..
    This is an awesome technique and I want to thank you for sharing it with us!!!

      @TheRykerDane  10 лет назад

      You are very welcome and I am so glad it worked for you. I must say you had it easy doing it this way first. Please share with your friends on Facebook or wherever if you think it would help them too. thanks so much!

      This works great as long as you didn't put glue on the back of the wallpaper when you put it up. If you do, this won't work but if all you did was dip the wallpaper in hot water and just use the pre- pasted type of wallpaper, this works like a charm.

    I dreaded removing 11 year old twice layered wallpaper!!! This is brilliant!!! I followed the advice but added fabric softener and vinegar to the water. I used regular spray bottle and it worked! I found it's easier to scrape the paste off the wall with that mixture. I like that it's such a simple procedure and you have the things at home already. No need to buy expensive wallpaper remover stuff. Thank you! Thank you!

    This worked great! It took awhile and the bathroom was really wet by the time i finished, but both the wallpaper and the glue layer came off well. One little thing i did additionally, was that when the paper split as i peeled it off, i immediately misted the part that wasn't coming off, then worked it back down to join the main part. Because there was no stickiness when it was dry after removing the glue layer, i painted directly over it with a latex paint, and it looks good. Or at least a LOT better than before i started! Thanks for the video - this was by far the easiest way shown, and it worked.

    Yes this is the worst when it is on unprimed walls. It is a slow job to remove it all. It's either that or to mud over whats left and smooth out with sanding. You just may have to do this a few times to get everything leveled out. It just depends on how much time you want to spend on it. Hope that helps!

    I would caution viewers to be careful of over wetting as it might cause the paper sheeting on improperly primed or sealed sheetrock to bubble. To combat this possibility, I would add wallpaper glue dissolving solution to the water to increase it's effectiveness and thereby reducing the amount of water needed. In addition, it is useful for removing the stickiness mentioned in this video and thereby negating the need for oil based primer as was suggested.
    This solution is particularly useful if you don't have peelable wallpaper as was in this demonstration. Just remember that you will also need the device that puts pinholes in your wallpaper as a entry point for the solution. This too is available at most big box hardware stores such as Lowes.

    My wife and I started a removal job last night, using a scoring tool and spray chemical, getting very little done and we became very frustrated. Your method looks much, much easier and less stressful. I'm going to try it out later today.

      TheRykerDane Just wanted to give you some props. I used your method and it worked extremely well. The paper we took down had been up for 20+ years. The top layer was a little difficult in some places to get off, but once we got to the backing and applied hot water, it came off with ease!!

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  8 лет назад +1

      you can prime when it is dry pretty much. then you can paint once the primer is dry, but you could wait a day too especially to let the place air out from the bad smelling primer

      I have one problem though now that I have set the wheels in motion. I can't get it off in one smooth piece but need to use my scraper (even after waiting longer). But the scraper dug into a deeper level of the wall past the grout which had once upon a time covered some old wallpaper that someone else painted over after grouting. Ive got a wall which I scraped into a mess whilst other walls in the same room are smooth but waiting to be steamed off as per your video. What's the best way to level out tge wall Ive wrecked? Im doing it myself too.

    • @TLOYA1
      @TLOYA1 8 лет назад

      +Cam Lar his method works great with smooth surfaces under the wall paper especially if it's primed or skim coated. but doesn't always work great when the walls are textured. sometimes you do need to rent a steamer. stay away from tiger claws. they just make things more difficult.

    • @TLOYA1
      @TLOYA1 8 лет назад

      +Cam Lar as for the wall you wrecked. I recommend priming it then floating over the wrecked parts with joint compound.

      Pamela Damhorst You are welcome. If the paper is really thin and won't come off, then just prime over it, mud the seams and then put your paint coat over it. you will never know there was wallpaper there.

    I'm most definitely going to try using your method. I recently inherited a large beautifully built house in Greece. It was built in the 70's at the height of the wallpaper craze. There is not one room in my 480 square meter house that does not have that 70's Show wallpaper. This is almost a bucket list job. Going to start in the kitchen and dining room first then work my way out.
    Any suggestions about covering floors furniture etc. ??

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  9 лет назад

      Anastasia Sharpe ok, good luck, you can just use some old sheets, or get plastic cover from a hardware store. The only area that will get wet or have paper will be right next to the wall at the baseboard, so just move furniture out about 5 feet.

    Your video looked so promising! Ran out and purchased a garden sprayer just for this project. Had already removed the top design layer of the wallpaper in our kitchen, breakfast area, laundry and mudroom that a professional installer put up about 13 years ago. What was left was the backing. I must be doing something wrong. The backing isn't coming down the way your video (or those who've commented) say it will. I'm using hot water I've heated in the microwave, then spraying it on 3 foot sections of backing. It doesn't seem to matter how long I wait to remove it, it still doesn't come down in more than small bits. I've tried at 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes. It doesn't seem to make a difference in how wet the wall is. I've tried soaking it, resoaking it, soaking it less. More often than not, I have to scrape it off using a putty knife and lots of elbow grease. More often than not, it feels like some of the backing comes off, but some of it is left behind (like stuck on toilet paper). It really takes lots of effort to remove that rough textured stuff toilet paper kind of paper. It's taking me about an hour to remove one 8 foot tall strip. I still have much to remove! I've also tried using hot water and Dawn and hot water and Gain fabric softener. Nothing seems to be working well.HELP!

    • @TheRykerDane
      @TheRykerDane  9 лет назад +1

      Lisa Tyson One issue could be that the wallpaper was put on new walls or walls that were not painted first. If paper was put right on the wall, it will be difficult to take down. If it comes down to being really a big pain of taking it off, then just mud the seams and fix an unlevel spots and prime over it first then paint. You won't ever know there was wallpaper there. I am sorry but if you have tried all those things and it is not coming off, there is nothing else to do besides work very hard at taking it off or paint over it. Sorry thats not the answer you were looking for.

    • @catgirl24
      @catgirl24 9 лет назад

      Lisa Tyson I have the same problem with the boarder that was up about 15 years. It was no problem with the boarder but the backing did the same with me. It only came off in pieces.
