The dialogue in this movie is top notch. "I'll kneel before you if it saves lives." "It will. Starting with your own."
“But there’s one man here on Earth, who will never kneel before you”
“Who is this imbecile?”
"No one who leads so many could possibly kneel so quickly."
seriously much better then the current dc universe we have :/
Is that you Boog?
Yes but "oh god" followed by "zod 😉 " maybe the finest scriptwriting EVER
Even today 40+ years later, whenever I hear someone say, "Oh God" I reply, "Zod!"
KNEEL BEFORE ZOD
What a day that was, good times were had!
General Zod as ursa say, Zod is master of all who surveys
@@inuyashason81 So he was yesterday and the day before .
Ah, I miss those days...
Promises were made... gifts exchanged 😉
Gene Hackman was the best Lex.
So general, what is it that you do these days?
Such a great scene!
POTUS: "Oh God."
Zod: "Zod."
One of the funniest lines. 😂
Zod's "who is this imbecile?" also cracks me up
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha 😆
This was the 2nd movie I can remember watching. I was 3 and I can still remember my mom's reaction to that line.
Terrence Stamps dialogue in that film is outstanding.
I wish SNL respoofed this scene --- have China Donnie kneel before President Biden like this! 😂
"I see you are practised in worshipping things that fly" is such an underrated line from Zod.
That "kneel so quickly" line is the greatest line from this film
It is clever and correct, if you're the leader of a country, you should have enough backbone to not kneel so quickly no matter who is threatening you. To do shows you are unfit to lead
@@thefanwithoutaface8105 agree...
Wrong
"Oh God."
"Zod."
That was classic!
Wow, great joke....
"You are practiced at worshiping things that fly. Good."
Bruh, I saw this right as it was said 🤣
That must have gotten laughs in the theater/cinema
Zod's dialogue and delivery is epic. When he says rise before Zod send shivers down me.
yeah, he's extremely believable. Perfect for the role.
I swear Zod was the inspiration for Baby Stewie Griffin.
Family Guy is a multiverse origin story.
Let's say his name: Terence Stamp.
1979
"What I do now, I do for the sake of the people of the world. But there is one man here on earth that will never kneel before you." Gets me everytime.
My favorite part
BOOM ! 💥
Who is this imbecile?
“Who is this imbecile? Where is he”?
Who is this imbecile? Where is he?
Terrance Stamp an excellent actor and a perfect General Zod unbeatable.
He definitely nailed the concept of absolute confidence.
I was just mesmerized by his voice in Oblivion. He played the main antagonist of the game and he started talking to you about his beliefs and he was so captivating, I could just sit there listening to him for hours explaining the lore of the series.
Then he switched sides and played the voice of Jor El in Smallville.
Michael Shannon would like to have a word lol
@@jaredcrowelle3817 Exactly. Terrence was a great actor but his acting in this movie wouldn't work AT ALL right now in the modern world. People would laugh and walk out of theatres if this Zod was made on the big screen today.
Shannon's performance as Zod was THE perfect one for the modern age.
I met Terence Stamp (Zod) once. He's at least a full foot shorter than me, easily 100 lbs lighter, and his cold, steady gaze is so unnerving that I nearly knelt myself. He's a really intimidating person.
Great comment. He truly commanded respect.
Are you 7ft??
Did you kneel before him?
@@toddkurzbard No, but he looked like he wanted to kill me and I had trouble speaking to him. This was right around the time "The Limey" came out and I'd seen it not more than a few weeks before I ran into him. He still had that psycho killer vibe going and was just an ultra intense person. Interacting with him was a bit like plucking a guitar string stretched to its breaking point.
@@AlexBen-v7y 6'4" so a bit shy of where I needed to be.
"I see you are practiced in worshiping things that fly." --- wow.
i like that line a lot because zod knows he can fly and knows humans cant so he assumes winning their subservience is not a difficult task
1979
Even as a kid I noticed how Terrence Stamp was outstanding as the bad guy.
He used to scare the crap outta me (even when I watched this in the 90s as a kid)
@@JunguianPhantom A great performance no doubt.
@@storminboy Indeed. Even now at 32 yo I still feel some dread with Zod
His performance in this movie ingrained in me as a child the image of the ultimate bad guy.
@@doncarlin9081 It really accentuates the ULTIMATE part. Mr Stamp was awesome (and still frightens me to this day)
No one who leads so many would kneel so quickly....
SLEAZEBALL GANG
agent orange would have
Joe Biden would try to grope Zod while kneeling. 😂
@@christopherrodriguez6434 and sniff his hair dont forget. COME ON MAN!
Except Biden kneeling to Xi Jinping
I like this president, "I'll kneel only if it saves lives."
I think Zod himself was slightly impressed.
he respected him alright
Yup, something that was clearly missing by the imposter president.
Imagine how quickly Biden would kneel, and don't get me started about Kamala kneeling before powerful men
@@ethanjones9411 Poor baby.
@@ethanjones9411 not only will she kneel, she'll start svckin on something too
“Who is this imbecile?” Just ever-so-casually.
LMFAO 😂
Funniest line
🤣🤣
I know... I just loved that line!!!! The delivery there was so amazing! The great Terrence Henry Stamp
And now there is a imbecile in the Whitehouse
Terrence Stamp portrayal of Zod will always be the best.
I love how there's a mortar in the hallway. Classic 80's movie logic.
Well at least the MG nest was fitting lol
Nah, that's a rocket launcher lean against the sandbag.
LOL
I think you must be making a joke..... Logic?.... The story is about a guy who can fly in a cape and tights, has x-ray vision, and is unrecognized when he simply puts glasses on, and you're worried about the logic of a mortar?... Reminds me of the conversation in 'Stand By Me', when they were discussing whether Superman (who they thought was a 'real guy'), could beat up Mighty Mouse (a cartoon).
It's apparently an RL-83 anti-tank bazooka, the same type that was used in The Wild Geese. Perhaps even the same prop given that they were both filmed in the UK.
Zod and company look like theyre going to a disco.
It was 1979. Disco ruled.
When you can bench press a building you can dress however the hell you want
Just like everyone else at that time
@@ajs41 1979 was also the year "Disco Sucks". Quite the year in music indeed.
Well it was 1980 after all lol let's be honest regardless of what they were wearing they could still break a human being in half without breaking a sweat lol......
I remember when Superman said general zod you care to step outside the theater went crazy
Wish I could have been there. I was only two when this was on theaters.
@@Surfer041 Popeye was playing in next theater lol
I was 10 when I saw this movie at the cinema --- I can remember the whole theater cheering at that moment
So true.. we didn’t know anything then other than the screen. We didn’t know about Lester vs donner director or deleted scenes/ alternate endings. The deleted scene was at fortress of solitude and Clark has no more powers and Jor-el appears and then he gets the super powers back but no more Jor-el communications.
Alien: "The real president wouldn't kneel so easily."
Pres: "I am the one they are protecting"
Alien: "Kneel"
Pres: "OK!!!"
Hahahahahahahahahahaha!
lol
John Lee ok
@@DavidGomez-es7bd ok
lol
"You are not the president".
"No one who leads so many can possibly kneel so quickly".
The way Zod outsmarted him. What a clever badass 😏
Totally. I first saw this when I was little. For years, I didn't quite understand how Zod knew that wasn't the President. Then I realized, because the leader of a nation would at least try to argue, negotiate, plead, etc., for his people. And the first man didn't do that. He didn't even ask why he should kneel. He just knelt without a word.
Just wait until Joe Biden.... He'd kneel, and then wouldn't be able to get back up either.
@@kennikuhlmann-clark9860 But first, he'd complain that Zod wasn't a Clinton.
@@kennikuhlmann-clark9860 right on with that.
What a legacy Terence Stamp has left ,not only in a stellar career but with General Zod in particular ...... What an iconic role.....We shall all kneel before Zod!!!!!
Well said 🙌🏻
"who is this imbecile?"
-Lmfao cant get enuff!!!!
Best line in any movie ever!
"I was there when bush knelt before Zod"
The special effects are amazing. How Ursa threw that guy up through that skyline in slo mo … just wow 🤯
In Zod We Trust
Easily a top 10 villain performance in film history.
He's #2 behind Ledger's Joker...the greatest ever.
That would be Shannon
"Kneel before Zod"
Delusional
@@victorbonilla4634 f that 89 batman was way better
Acting in this scene is just perfect.
'Where is he?' His sarcastic look around.😂😂
Lol
Such a civilized villain. We need more evil people like him
I don’t know what made me think of this classic line. But somehow i knew all i needed to type in the search was “kneel before Zod” and the funny thing is all i had to do was type “kneel” and this is the first thing that populated lol
Stamp absolutely should have gotten a BSA nomination for this role.
the penitent man is humble. the penitent man kneels before Zod.
*KNEEL!*
0:24 Love how they have rocket launchers and sandbags inside the white house like they're storming the beach at Normandy.
Can't believe they missed the big guy with the bazooka
When movies were well written instead of throwing a load of bangs, special effects & nonsense over the top cgi. Proper meaningful dialogue that you remember for generations. Actors that can act.
I see you are practiced in worshipping things that fly. Good. Rise before Zod.
“Who is this imbecile?”
"Good" spoken so quietly you almost can't hear it. It's great how understated Terrence Stamp is as Zod.
The funny thing is Terence Stamp (Zod) played God in the Word of Promise audio Bible. He did an amazing job too.
@@rikkousa Yes. He has had a long career before and after this. And let's not forget that he did Jor-El's voice on Smallville. Glad they got him to do it!
Terrence Stamp is just so damned good as Zod.
This is what it means when you kneel before another man.
That whole "kneel before Zod" thing is grossly under used by DC. Best line ever
When they dropped that line in Smallville it hit HARD
Terence Stamp made that line work so well ---- he had the perfect face and voice to be an egomaniac douche like Zod
Terence Stamp was PERFECT for this role. He delivered it with the proper tone: strong but without sounding overdone AND without shouting like a drunk man. He definitely is one of the greatest actors in any Superman film.
@@largol33t1 It's a bold statement considering Reeves, Brando, Hackman, Spacey, Shannon...yet I cannot disagree. His Zod was flawless.
1979
The Richard Donner cut shows Zod shooting the machine gun it's pretty funny.
Yeah, he's got a big grin as he's mowing people down. I can see why they cut it out.
Even though Zod, Ursa and Non are evil I can't help but like them and enjoy every scene they appeared in, despite them being evil villains I do find them to be likable.
Better than the new version to that's for sure
I like MoS, but I LOVE this one, even with the groovy disco space suits. 🕺
Their charisma is likely why they got as far as they did on Krypton before Jor-El and the Council captured them.
1979
this scene must be one of the most quotable scenes in history
The cops and soldiers are like storm troopers
Jefin Virgiansyah 0:16
Even if they weren't, there's nothing they can do.
From the A TEAM!
not much has changed since then
They could've all been Captain America and the result would've been the same.
Who remembers the TV version when Zod, after pulling the soldier through the window, opens up on the Secret Service with the M-16?
yborciteno that’s also in the donner cut of the film
I have the Richard donner cut of this on dvd and that scene is still intact, zod is actually grinning as he blasts the soldiers with their own weapons 😂

Ahh, so it was another cut! I was wondering if my memory was playing tricks on me!
@@generalzod7959 you do seem to get a kick out of shooting the soldiers. I love it.
Zod (to President #2):
"You are not the President either ... you're wearing brown shoes and a cheap rug!"

….and that was actually Lex Luthor
Zod is a boss
Just like President Biden!
Now, kneel before Zod.
My favorite Superman movie! None of the others compare.
It’s mine too.
It was the best one
thats nostalgia talking. Man of Steel was better in every way, from the actors to the story
@@Kai88988 Lmao. The
1979 Superman movie is better than Man of Steel in every conceivable way, especially at actually being a Superman movie.
@@Kai88988 Wrong the only good thing about new movies is better CGI but without that they are worthless.
Best part of the script right here!
From then on, all coins were stamped with the words "in Zod we trust."
I think you mean "Stamp"-ed
The word “masterpiece” gets chucked around trivially.
This movie is truly a masterpiece, and to this day IMO the greatest superhero movie ever made.
Other than the first like 10 minutes being straight copy pasted from the first movie yeah
1979
Love their crazy S&M-aliens outfits... lol
scene is still powerful af all these years later they still can't capture this actors brilliance
Yes they can
1979
STILL my favorite "Superman" movie. Saw this in theaters when I was 7 years old, love the Ken Thorne composed and conducted score(with original thematic material composed by John Williams).
When the President said "oh god" Zod thought was talking to him, lol.
You’ll never get away with this, Zod.
Great villians Terence Stamp is brilliant as Zod.
Oh God!......"Zod"!
E.G. Marshall who later played the owner of his apartment terrorized by cockroaches in creepshow.
That was a brilliant performance.
He had a long career. RIP to him.
1979
The destruction done by Zod, Faora and Nam Ek in Man Of Steel was a nod to this movie
general zod is one of my favorite actors.
I'm assuming they made this scene before any real-life technical combat advisers were around.
i stand for the flag, i kneel before Zod
Zod: "You are not the president. No one who leads so many could possibly kneel so quickly."
George Bush: "Hold my beer."
E.G. Marshall's vaugely Reaganesque look was a lucky coincidence. The film was released after Reagan was elected president, but Marshall's scenes were filmed two years before Reagan announced he was running in the 1980 election.
Wish every president cared about others lives.
I could not do this scene with a straight face. No matter what I was paid. "Rise before zod." Hahahaha
Woulda been better if his name was Rod. Imagine saying RISE BEFORE ROD!
Sir, my rod is already raised. I got a tentpole in my pants ever since u walked in... 😏😏
I was just Disappointed that the new version when they didn’t include that ohGod Correction Zod Joke anywhere it’s so perfect
"Say it a million times and say it a million more, and that word u will have said two million times is....... My Zod. "😄 Loved Terrance Stamp in Yes Man too
this scene is why the marvel movies have an obsession with people kneeling
"Oh GOD." 😞
"ZOD." 😈
Haha love that line. 👏
2:23 "But there is one man, here on earth, who will never kneel before you."
But then near the end of the movie, Superman actually did kneel before Zod.
Considering it was a ploy by Superman, you could argue it wasn't a genuine act of submission.

Amazing how Zod immediately figured this guy wasn’t the president with how quickly he kneeled. Such intellect. I couldn’t possibly figure so myself. I’m so envious.
Meanwhile Superman getting his boots rocked.
Man i used to think this was so realistic and badass
Rise before Zod… no, kneel before Zod

Always nice to see Barry, Maurice and Robin get acting roles.
"Tell that to Zod's snapped neck"

He said oh god
Zod like no zod
17 people refused to knell to zod
He’s not talking to you Zod!
I'm not only the president, but I'm also a client..hair club for men..lol
Damn I love this scene......remember when I first watch Superman movies was 5 years old, since then I am Superman's big fan.
Compared to the way the movies look now these scenes look like when kids play fought on the playground
" Now....kneel before Zod......You are not the President" lol
