    I've got the base model from 2015, just hit over 150,000 on it, and I absolutely love it! The comfort isn't a big plus, cramps you up after awhile, but the gas mileage this thing get's is amazing. I've only replaced the tires, brakes, rotors and a battery (so far) and it's never left me stranded.

    The thing with the rear turn signals is because of outdated US regulations. The new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu has the same thing. The blank clear/white area right next to the reverse light is where the amber turn signal would be in international markets. But due to outdated US lighting regulations that regulate the size of the turn signal, that area is too small so Chrysler was unable to put an amber turn signal there. It bothers me too. If this car were to go on sale in say, Europe, there would be an amber turn signal there next to the reverse light. Shame that our government will not address the outdated laws because bmw just announced laser beam headlight tech that will not be available here.

    Rented one of these for about a couple weeks. I agree with everything he said, the shifter being my number 1 issue. It most certainly has a delay that is quite noticeable, makes you look twice almost every time to make sure you actually selected a gear. Tactile feedback from a shift lever that physically moves through the gears is best imo.

    Make sure you get the three ECM and TCM updates that Chrysler has released. I can attest that they do improve the 2-3 shift issue you've noted. I test drove a 2016 last week and had no problems with the 9-speed in S mode with the 3.6L V6. Burnt a lot of rubber on that test drive... and the dealer salesman was not complaining.
    Edit: After the updates, make sure the dealer completes a "Quick Learn" cycle for the transmission. This retunes the gearing to your engine, after the software updates are completed. If you do that, your 200 transmission should be top-notch.

    I've had my 200s for 5 months now. I like the shifter. It's different. I like the ebrake as well. More cars are going to that now. I don't like that 2nd to 3rd shift. It's so weird since all the other shifts are really smooth. I also agree about the brake lights. You'd think all the lights would be led these days. I heard they are a pain to replace too. I too dislike cars where the brake light doubles as a signal but I'll live. lol

      I rented one and it was good car... I have to complain about the transmission though... Not bad when you're driving normal but if you're in the highway and you need to floor it it can't skip gears it has to downshift a few times and it's a little laggy. But honestly the 4cyl felt faster than it actually was. :))

      I've owned the 200s for a little over a year now. About 8k miles. I'm not a big car person but if I had to complain I'd wish the 9-speed would be more responsive. The 295hp is there, but at times I have to pretty much take over with the paddle shifters so it'll downshift and go if I feel like speeding. Other than that, I enjoy the experience

      What salesman in his right mind would allow you to go on a reasonably long drive in a new car without him tagging along?

    • @TheTallMan50
      @TheTallMan50 8 лет назад

      Ever been to a new car lot lately? Those salesmen don't know the meaning of space. They'll be all up on you like bees on honey. This may not sound economically feasible, but if you see a car that you're serious contemplating on buying rent one just like it from Hertz. Now you've got all the space you need. Here's another thought: if you need new tires and haven't got the money for them go rent a car. Take that rental car, swap all four tires and take it back. Now you've $400 worth of tires for $69.99. That's a joke of course. ;>]

    • @mhtube01
      @mhtube01  8 лет назад

      You're so right about the salesmen these days, they're relentless. I understand they have a job to do and want to make a sale because that's how they make money but seriously, some people just want to look. If you want to look around anymore, you pretty much have to go when the dealer is closed! Now once in a while you'll get a good salesman who is more laid back but a lot of times, not so much.

    • @brendanh3952
      @brendanh3952 8 лет назад

      +mhtube01 that's exactly what I do. I go when the dealer is closed. I've heard many stories that the salesmen hound you real good and they are like "we have this for blah blah blah" and other things like that.

    We have 10,000 miles on ours (200 C with every available option less the block warmer, we live in VA) and we haven't had any issues at all. It did ride really hard when we picked it up and found they had put 46lbs of pressure in the tires. Once deflated to 35 rides beautiful. It's the V6 and it is really pretty quick. Our other car is a G37 Coupe, six speed manual and I think the Chrysler is quicker. But no issues at all.

  • @KevinSmith-qi5yn
    @KevinSmith-qi5yn 8 лет назад +1

    I have the Chrysler 200 Limited which I like. In my opinion the lag to switch gears with the rotary dial would happen regardless of shift mechanism. Its a delay by the computer which would happen with either design. The stick in the Charger was also not that good and has had its share of problems that only a few makers have fixed. Consumer Reports did a talk about it decently. In general its difficult to tell what gear you are in.
    The thing I hate most about the car is actually related. Its when you slow down to a stop light and it turns green. There is a delay in shifting back into drive since it automatically takes it out of gear when you slow down. I think its related to the transmission as its relatively complex and a lot of grinding can happen if its not at the right RPM.
    With the e-Brake, I am pretty sure it uses a vacuum line. It's not the most reliable solution. I actually like it as you get that futuristic locking noise and its easy to flip.

    • @KevinSmith-qi5yn
      @KevinSmith-qi5yn 8 лет назад

    These cars get all-LEDs in back with the higher option packages. As these are budget-conscious family cars, yes there are going to be some cheap materials in there… The 8-speed is for RWD-based configurations, longitudinal engine layouts.. As the 200 is a traditional FWD-based transverse setup(even in AWD models), the 8-speed wouldn’t be a drop-in kind of deal. The car would need to be totally re-engineered to accept the ZF 8-speed.

      The memory is perhaps better than the reality of how it was. Compared to modern build quality of your Challenger, my Mustang creaked and the heavy doors would sag on their hinges. The window were frameless and would leak in heavy rain and generate wind noise. And mine was only five years old with 36k miles when I bought it. Still there was plenty of thrill when you unleashed the big block if you had traction bars to hold the light rear end down. And I have a few good memories from the back seat!

People of my generation love the classics though, I think they're so cool. They certainly didn't drive like today's cars but it's just so neat to see what was around back then and how we've evolved. IMO though some of the styling of some classics just can't be beat.

    Great video! I too have owned my 200C for over a year and so far put 23k miles on it. Your 5 things that you hate, are spot on. The brake/turn signal lights really should have been LED and even surprised me that it wasn't after owning, I had assumed it was at first. The electronic emergency brake worries me, what happens if the battery dies and you need the brake since you lost power to everything else? It actually happened to me in a prior car, not enjoyable. But you can just press the gas and this releases without having to press the EBrake to release.
    The rotary shifter would be more nice if the shifts were quicker and not take a second or so like it does. Plus the ZF 9speed, I actually have become to like it, but do agree the 8 speed is much more smooth. I've ridden in a RAM with the 8 speed and it's just way better. But I have learned to smooth out the 2 to 3 shift most of the time by getting rid of that extra annoying delay. I've found that a quicker start makes the computer eventually learn to smooth out that shift. But not all the time. ZF kept saying how they have been working with Chrysler and Honda on the computer programming to meet the American style of driving. I tried more of the European type of driving which means quicker get up to speeds and have found it has helped with smoothing out the 2-3 shift, but it appears only when the trans is warm. Not much help on when it's cold though, it's just rough. Hope this may help.

    • @mhtube01
      @mhtube01  8 лет назад

      +Travis Powers I've noticed that it smooths out more when you give it more throttle from a start. Of course I don't beat on the car when it's cold, that's one of the worst things you can do for it, but it is a little rough when cold. I've gotten used to it too but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the 8 speed is better. Sounds like you drive your 200 quite a bit as well! I really can't complain, this really is a great daily driver. One thing about it that I am BEYOND impressed with is the brakes! My car's window sticker says it has heavy duty brakes and that certainly seems to be true because they have stood the test so far and feel just as strong as they did when new. I live in an area with very heavy traffic and do a fair amount of city driving so I've used these brakes pretty hard with lots of hard stops thanks to the crazies on the road today but they don't shimmy or anything. Thank you Chrysler for FINALLY not cheaping out on brakes! I've never understood why companies do that.

The 2 to 3 shift, I keep waiting for it to shift hard and it's not. Well except when the trans is cold, but it's still not shifting anywhere near as hard when cold as it used to. Possible Chrysler has fixed the issue? I spent 2 weeks testing, I'll wait a while and see.

    The eight speed transmission is for rear wheel drive and is older and better developed. The nine speed is front wheel drive and brand new, some development time and consumer feedback is needed. Agree that it should have been given more time, but the new 200 was launched a bit early to quell the demand and expectations of the marketplace. My 2015 Jeep Cherokee has a V-6 and nine speed and so far I have had no issues whatsoever. I love the electronic parking brake. Valid point on the tail lights, less so the gear shift. My choice would be the traditional design in my Cherokee. Think the shift knob will go bye, bye just like the old unit on my 2012 Chrysler 300, which I "hate", in a car I absolutely LOVE.

    • @mhtube01

      +Bill Burke That makes sense since all of the cars that use the 8 speed are all RWD biased and some are 4WD. That is an excellent transmission, I've driven a few Chrysler products with it and love it. The 9 speed should get better with age, my car is in fact the first model year and I really don't have reason to question it's reliability so far which I'm happy about. I just wish most of the American manufacturers would do away with that turn signal design personally, I'm not crazy about it. I do really like this car though, I'm going to make a video about the top 5 things I love about it.

This car has far superior build quality so idk why they couldn't have at least put that in the nicer trim models, I can't imagine it would be THAT much more expensive. The old one got a lot of criticism from auto reviewers who called it a fancy Sebring and all that but I still liked it, it was way better than the Sebring but it did have some serious torque steer with the V6! I love the new one though, it is a great car and you get a lot for your money. I will admit mine hasn't been perfect, being an early 2015 build it's had a few problems but they've all been taken care of without worry and have pretty much been all electrical glitches and nothing serious like an engine or transmission.

The 8HP is a longitudal design and the 9HP is transverse. however they should be updating firmware to what the Pacifica uses, first drive reviews are saying it's perfect now. but talk about issues, the DDCT in the Dart... my mom has a very early build 2013 MY that has had about 10 reflashes and "recalls" to get the tuning right and one even nuked the output shaft or the secondary clutch causing a replacement of the entire DDCT. it's been amazing since they got it right.

    I own a 2015 base model; here’s my comments on his issues.
    #1 - I like the gear selector, but it’s a pain if you need to put it N to move the vehicle if it’s dead. You have to remove the rubber pad on the bottom center storage area, pop the cover off using a key or flathead, pull the metal shaft into a upright position using the tiny rope attached to it. You might have to press the brake pedal down while deactivating the parking brake to move the vehicle. To disengage, pull the rope on the rod towards the rear of the vehicle and release; it should fall back into its original position but you may need to press down on it to make sure it’s secure.
    #2 and #3 - no problem with the parking break, and I love the tail lamps, especially at night.
    #4 - I don’t have the same stereo and center piece, but the one on the base model and the touch screen is a bit bland.
    #5 - the shifting can be a bit jerky/jumpy, especially coming off a stop. You have to real press down soft other wise you’ll feel it jump. It feels similar to being with a driver learning to drive stick.
    I do like my 200, but I’m having similar issues as others have with it dying on me and can’t figure out why. It starts up fine, but once I get down the street it dies when coming to a stop. Replaces the battery and had the alternator and starter tested. The red lighting bolt comes on and the car reacts but once I pull over and turn it off and back on, it’s fine. The extended warranty is worth looking into adding if you’re buying this car (or any used car really).

    People in these comments love to talk crap about a car they have no clue about. 1st gen 200's had many problems, yes, but that gen was just thrown out to give them time to build what they really wanted. the 2015 200 had issues as well, but it was the first of that model, it's to be expected. the 16 and 17 200 were almost perfect but by then, the damage was done and sales were too low to continue building them. Very underrated car, I love my 2016 S...I give 5.0s a run for their money...

    • @mhtube01
      @mhtube01  7 лет назад

      Yup, that's always how it goes. They basically took the Sebring, which was a garbage car, gave it a complete overhall with some new engines and called it the 200. For what it was, it's wasn't terrible. The 2015 was a far superior car in every way but I think the 9 speed transmission and the issues that came with it were really what gave it a bad reputation. I know the 4 cylinder has had a lot of problems too that they haven't had with the V6. I have 54,500 miles on mine right now and the engine has been the most trouble free part of the car so far. People need to remember that these are man made machines, they're not going to be perfect, especially in their first year of production.

    We just purchased a 2016 200. I agree on the interior they really went all out but on ours we got the 5.0 radio and it's like they just had something plain laying around and threw it in there. Just very generic blah looking IMO.

    From my own personal experience with the 2015 Chrysler 200, I would say it's honestly probably the worst car anyone could pick to drive. I bought one in August of 2015 in black (200s) with the V6. The car pulled well for 3500lbs and 295hp. I was driving on the interstate one day and the car completely shut off on me. Nothing worked. So I manually popped the hood and looked at its internals to see if I could notice a problem. Nothing. Sat back in the car and called the dealer and then the car started to work again. When I say work, I mean the electricity and lights cut back on. Day or so later the same thing happened but this time I was parked. Had the piece of shit towed into Chrysler and they said the electrical wiring harness was bad. Got it replaced in about a month, in that time I drove the exact same car around as a rental. Got my car back, brought it back to the dealer within 2 days for the same problem. This time I was lucky enough for it to work again and ballsy enough to drive it to the dealership. Engine wiring harness apparently was bad too. Eventually Chrysler called me and said there's been a large recall on the electric and engine wiring harnesses. I was in my rental 200 from I'd say September 2015 to January 2016. They finally deemed the car a lemon and junked it. I was given a matching msrp from Chrysler to use on another Chrysler product after this. I ended up getting a 2016 Charger R/T and it is the best car I've ever purchased. It's unbelievable how awful the 200 is all together regardless of what model you have compared to the charger. You get so much more of a car. Good luck with that car. I'm glad it's being discontinued in 2017, along side the Dart and Viper unfortunately. Most of the "dislikes" ya have for this car are just reasons in my head why I truly hate the 200 and all these dislikes honestly lead to it's downfall. Chrysler wasn't ready for a 9 speed.

    I own the 2015 200C fully loaded and I can say I hate the crappy 8" Alpine sub.. I'm replacing mines with a Kicker 40CWD82.. Another thing I hate is the rear deck that rattles from the 3rd break light tapping the Window from bass (which I will be sound deadning).. One more thing, the wiring is fucked up in my car.. I have to keep replacing fuses for my sunroof and auto rain sensing wipers, which I know it's a recall on that actually now I think about it! But yea those would be my complaints! You should've gotten the 200C, mines wood grain playa!

      @mhtube01  8 лет назад

      This one is a 200C and has the wood grain trim. You can get upgraded perforated leather seats with a chrome ring around the steering wheel, two tone color schemes, plus other electronics this one doesn't have. So I have one of the top trim levels but it doesn't have every option. They had a black one with every option but it was too expensive for me at the time so I got this one which has all of the options I would ever really need or want. You should take yours to a dealer and get the wiring fixed. I think the sub is plenty loud enough lol it rattles the trunk which does get a little annoying. My Challenger had the 18 speaker Harmon-Kardon system and that has 2 subs in the trunk but nothing rattles. I don't keep the bass up though, I hate crazy sub systems personally. If the sound isn't equalized, it's going to bother me. Overall I really like my car, I really had to think to come up with these complaints which are pretty minor.

      +mhtube01 mines came out to be around $35,000, but It's all about knowing the right person plus negotiating.. Brought it down to $28,819. I also had them give me the best tint money can buy, the UV Ray tint. it does a damn good job keeping out heat but it still gets hot during the summer but not as hot. I was watching CES 2016 and Apple car play and Android Play coming this summer

      Lol I couldn't care less really, the haters are always going to hate. I can't say these 200s are Chrysler's best car because they certainly aren't. It's a shame too because they could have been a turning point for the company along with cars like the Dodge Dart to get away from their generally poor mid-2000s reputation. This car actually got wrecked in November 2018 and I can't complain too much about it because it did everything it was supposed to and protected me very well. It certainly had it's quirks when it was around though. I don't think Chrysler deserves the bad reputation they have with so many people. My family has owned several cars from them and they have been good overall. Their transmissions are definitely not what they used to be but their engines are overall solid, especially the HEMIs. They had a few problems when they came back out but the 2007 and up ones are good. The Pentastar V6 was also the least problematic part of this car.

    Isn't the 9 speed a in house gearbox and the 8 speed is a ZF, that's probably why it's better

    • @mhtube01
      @mhtube01  8 лет назад

      Yes you are correct. Chrysler has put out a transmission reprogram for these which should apply to mine since it was an early 2015 build and I've heard it smooths out the shifts a lot and fixes the weird quirks I don't care for. I'm taking it in for an oil change and tire rotation tomorrow and going to see if they can actually do that too.

    The 2013 Chrysler 200 S has piano vainer around the infotainment center. Lots more appealing.

      Yeah I forgot about that, my mom had a 2014 200 S that had the same finish. Otherwise the 2015 interior is much nicer and higher quality. I wish mine had the dark ash wood trim around the screen like it does on the doors and the gauges.
