Average marks of 10 students in a class is 60 with a standard deviation 4 Another 10 students mean is 40 with standard deviation 6. If all the 20 students are taken together then standard deviation will be ?

You subtract the values from the mean, not the mean from the values
Why don't we take modulus of the values while calculating SD? Why do we square?
