The Force Push came with too much confidence! She used the force one time to save herself and 1 minute later she wants to do a risky force push on Ezra without hesitating as if she is a jedi master. That came too quick and gave me Rey 2.0 vibes. Sabine was so good written in the series up until this point and I am so disappointed about it...
Rey pulled off The Jedi Mind Trick and Force pull on her first attempt.
Sabine had a lifetime of warrior training, two Jedi mentors and a decade of training in The Force before she pulled off Force Pull when she was no longer emotionally compromised and finally communed with The Force to pull it off.
That ain't Rey 2.0. It's what people complained Rey wasn't.

Sabine was good written? Well ok....
It's like when Luke tried to move the Xwing after moving a few rocks in ESB, he moved it but couldn't lift it as well as Yoda did.
The difference is, Sebine BELIVED she could do it. And she did. Luke did not.
I think this would be very satisfying if in season 2 of ahsoka, Sabine continued struggling to even move cups again. Getting frustrated like "IDK HOW I DID IT BEFORE!" Reinforcing that it was really an act of passion/desperation

Agreed. I think it will depend on how they move forward. They absolutely must make her struggle to do the same, maybe gaining some minor proficiency by the end of Season 2.

That wouldn't explain how it wasn't just one single moment, but how she was casually using it from that point on. 'Froce pushing' Ezra over a large expanse, being a case in point.

Sabine being that competent in the force that quickly removes the point of the youngling program and selection for both Jedi and sith. All you have to do is find someone and train them for a month and then boom magic space wizard.
honest question: was it ever established how long she actually trained under ahsoka before ahsoka left her? People keep throwing around "a couple months" but I don't remember it ever being spelled out in the show.

Yep, so long to the uniqueness of a force sensative individual, no longer is it something you are just gifted with. Now we can have Joe Blow the droid dealer or Jar jar I guess throwing people around and jumping with the force. Stupid move by Dave, Star Wars just can’t help itself now days.
I was expecting more of a Chirrut lvl of force ability where Sabine was more open to it and let it guide her actions and the viewer would be left thinking did she use the force or was she just lucky and then later have Ahsoka tell Sabine she’s taken her “first true steps”

Wow, not THAT would have been a smart way to handle her character. Chirrut was fantastic and helped connect us to the spiritual wisdoms aspect of the force more than the violence

I agree with you! I don’t mind Sabine learning the Force, but her being able to use the Force to the extent that she was able to by the end of the first season was a bit extreme.
EDIT: I just came back to this through my notifs to see 100+ replies, most of them arguing about this :’) Everyone has a right to their own opinions, and you could make sense as to how Sabine was able to use the Force as much as she did in your own way! It doesn’t seem like the writers intended for there to be a straight-forward answer. So, please be respectful when discussing this; it really isn’t that deep

@@briangressett902 Cope more. Home girl couldn't move a cup in-universe a few days ago, did zero additional training, and was regarded by Huyang as the weakest force user he had ever trained. Between those events and the finale, there was zero training that had occurred, zero Deus Ex-Machina intervention to imbue her with stronger force ability (except the script), nothing. As per usual with Disney in the modern era, the female protagonist already has all the power in the universe within them, they just have to realize that. It's horribly lazy writing, just like the rest of this show.
thats a solid insight but what if they are mis judging her talent capabilities in the force kind of like in dragon ball z where scouters became obsolete. what if she was blocking herself because she was thinking like a mando rather a jedi kinda like in avatar the last airbender why it wws so hard for aang to earth bend because it was conflicting with his air nomad nature. maybe once she found a way to sync her mind as a jedi AnD mando thats the reason why she was able to pull off that impressive act. in my opinion ya the force is everything but maybe in a mando perspective it is also a weapon and they are extremely proficient in using their weapons and by thinking like this could be another way for sabine to connect to it? lol idk just a theory

I'm pretty sure Peridea is strong in the Force and may have helped Sabine. It also probably helps that she found Ezra, as that was a major block for her emotionally.
Well, we do know that Ahsoka had been training her before this show. Before they had some sort of falling out. So there is that. I’m not exactly sure for how long she trained before this show started but yeah. Also, like you mentioned she is related to Tar Vizla. And lastly I think a lot of that force push had to do because of emotion. Her emotion/relationship/friendship/caring for Ezra gave her strength in that moment i believe. Just like most people get an adrenaline rush that makes them strong if a loved one is in trouble, we’ll perhaps the force is the same. Just my thoughts.
Yeah I think that makes sense, especially cause presumably we’ll be seeing a time skip before we see Sabine again, so presumably she’ll have been training in that time, and her force abilities will be on par with what we saw in this episode, but she’ll no longer need the adrenaline rush

Has anyone else noticed how easily her helmet flies off compared to the Mando's in Mandalorian.
Kanan in Rebels does mention that Sabine couldn't use the force properly because she had a block caused by her feelings and her Mandalorian education. So, for me, it kind of makes sense that in that particular moment when she needed the most to save her life and save her dearest friend, whom she just risked the fate of the entire galaxy to bring back, she could finally overcome the mental block and apply everything Kanan and Ahsoka taught her all those years.
they could've showed that in the show. Like, it should be established within the Ahsoka show that this concept is still relevant. Otherwise it appears to come out of nowhere. They could've spoken about this mental block during her training with Ahsoka and it would've been more meaningful seeing her finally succeed. Instead we got plot convenience

Also this is prob why jedi order only took kids, Sabine training as an adult brings baggage and I would guess if you start training as an adult either you have so much life blocks that it impedes using the force or you can use the force but more susceptible to the dark side.
I don't care that she can use the force or can be trained to be decent but that force push right after she used the force for the first time was ridiculous.

Kanan also says in season 3 when Hera asks if Sabine's at a disadvantage because she doesn't have the Force, that she's just close minded, not necessarily lacking. And we can write off the Ezra thing as a combo of him and her probably.
The skill set development of Sabine went from not being able to move a cup to deflecting multiple blasters. When they do that with characters like Ray and Sabine, it really steals from the awesomeness of character development that’s much more realistic.
The writers decided Ezra needed to be on the ship and as this is a visual
medium, they thought “let’s have her use the force, it’ll look cool.”
I don’t think they built up an entire season’s arc towards her using the force just to put Ezra on the ship
I think what was remarkable in the scene was Ezra trusting Sabine to succeed in the force push! Perhaps it was not her pushing Ezra, but Anakin…she did see the “shadows in the starlight”…

I wouldn't describe her use of the force as good or well done. I would describe it as scraping by. She struggled to pull the light saber to her while Ezra took no time at all.
She also almost didn't push Ezra far enough at all. It was by the skin of her teeth that she pushed him far enough to grab onto something and keep himself from falling.
It felt appropriate as it was like scoring a 60 on a test in college. Passing, but just barely.
I think you also need to take into consideration they were on Peridia which seems to be steeped in the Force. You have the statues of the Mortis gods and potentially a gateway to the World Between Worlds and/or Mortis itself and that may have allowed Sabine to draw on the Force more easily than she might have been able to in other places. Just a thought.
So by your thought that only applies to female humans and no one else.
@@shawnsanders9450 where did I say that? I didn't even mention species or gender. Yet if that were the case Shin would've been more of a handful for Sabine and Ezra. Baylan is being called to what he sees as his destiny at Mount Doom.

It's kind of a lame cop-out, but the will of the Force is honestly the only explanation ever necessary in Star Wars, it's a sort of Deus ex Machina for the entire series and universe. Im just going to be real. Even if it does make sense in terms of canon or to what George said about the force, I still dont have to agree with it or like it. I think Sabine was already a good character when she was a mandalorian. Making her a Jedi feels forced and unnecessary even if it makes sense. Not every idea works out well and this is one of them.
When was the last time that a mandalorian was a jedi once 1,000 years before new hope we not only get to see a jedi mandalorian but in live action too
There was something Luke said in the comics: "Ben isn't stronger, Voe. That's not how it works. The force can be a trickle, a stream, a river, a flood... for ANYONE who can can sense it. Think of yourself as a door. The wider you open, the more easily the force flows through you. Some poeple just start out with their door a bit more open, but any door can open wide."
I think this is an excellent point. Sabine may be able to use the Force really well in the moment Ezra has to get on the Star Destroyer, but it would take proper training and effort to do that CONSISTENTLY and without flaw. Because even though she was able to vault him across, she was only BARELY able to do so.
I think this hits the nail on the head and mirrors the eastern philosophy/spiritual practices that a lot of this stuff is based on. It sometimes takes practice to realise there's no practice needed, you're already exactly where you need to be.

This doesn't jive with the concept of midichlorians, or people like Anakin, or the fact that ability (and yes, strength) in the force is at least partially a genetic trait. It's a lore inconsistency.
Honestly the way she deflected blaster shots throughout the show looked very much like she was using the force unconsciously.
I noticed that a few of her deflections went in crazy directions. I'm glad the writers and producers added that effect because it shows her skills are present but needs a little more practice.
Then why wasnt it EVER a part of Disney's own Rebels show...hearing animals in Rebels once is not having the force.. People who want to destory SW are trying to justify why the to disney, the force is like catching a cold....have some dignity.
I don’t believe Huyang was speaking about her midichlorian count. He was speaking about her mindset. How would he know her midi count? Her new abilities aren’t sudden. She’d been meditating and trainng for an untold amount of time. Once she let go of the anger, her abilities matched her training. Ezra was force pushing Kanan as a padawan, and Sabine has over 10 years of training, starting with Kanan. It makes sense
Doesn't her being Mandalorian play a huge part of this. She wouldn't have been tested as a child to see how sensitive she is to the force or how much Midichlorian she has. Ahsoka could has spent more time trying to train her before and Sabine never was able to grasp it until her life was in danger.
You can make sense out of the fact that she is able to somewhat use the force but you can’t try to make sense out of that force push . There’s just no way bro lmaoo

@@yaboi7253Agree with this and I don't understand the issue here - Ezra probably did 90% of the "force" work in the jump and was counting on Sabine to do 10% which she struggled to do and he was almost killed. Sounds about right for a novice force user like Sabine.

The Force has ALWAYS been a deux ex machina. It always works the exact way plot convenience needs it to. Its never been about one character being a Mary Sue or not. The concept of The Force IS the Mary Sue of the story.
I like the idea that the force is in everyone if your dedicated enough like even Han Solo, boba fett or Jabba and not just being about bloodlines. With that said, she shouldn’t have gone from not being able to move a small object, to being able to do a massive force push that’s ridiculous.
0:29 Lucas never said "everyone can use the force". What he said was that everyone has the force in them, but not everyone is force sensitive.
I am happy for all people in some capacity force sensitive. But when its so easy to go from no grasp of the force too complete mastery within the span of days and not years, it is ridiculous.
What kind of Star Wars have you been watching if you think that is what complete mastery looks like? Also, she has been Ahsoka's student for literally years.

I think Ashoka’s advice needs to be taken into consideration a little more. Now I don’t agree with how they introduced her powers at all but ahsoka did say some pretty strong things that resonated with Sabine in episode 7 and 8. Like I said I don’t agree with how they introduced it but us as watchers understand the force and how complex it can be! Her confidence and focus could have instantly been on 1000% after she grabbed her saber, who’s to say the power hasn’t been in her all along and only now (when she found Ezra who she’s been looking for and loathed for) were her powers conceived and with her confidence she could use them to their full potential. Just a thought.
1. We don't know Sabine's Midi-Chlorian counts, it might be really high due to her blood line in connection with Tarre Vizsla who was the first Mandalorian to be inducted into the Jedi Order as a child. With that said, I would suspect it's really high.
2. In the show Rebels, Sabine trained with Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus and Ezra Bridger.
3. Then Sabine trained with Ahsoka for a while who was taught by Anakin. Anakin even asked her if she even wanted a Padawan. Yoda always said, pass on what you have learned and Yoda, Tera Sinube and even Anakin taught Ahsoka to do just that. Now she is back training Sabine.
4. In regards to the force push, she was already channeling the force heavily when she connected with the lightsaber Vs the zombie trooper who was choking her to death. Once you’re in that state and connected to the force then things become easier for you. I had no issue with it once I understood the reason it happened.
5. Next season of Ahsoka will focus more on her and Sabine getting training on that planet.
6. Relax and allow Dave to cook.
I mean tarre viszla was from 1000BBY I'm not sure that part makes sense as that is many generations where the midi chlorians are diluted (billions would be related to him). I agree with the other points though (especially 6 lmao)
Here’s my hot take: Ahsoka should’ve died on Malachor, and everything (or almost everything) she’s doing in this show should be done by Luke instead. Stop sidelining the literal poster boy of the franchise

To an extent I’m willing to write off her being able to push Ezra that far because it was a life or death situation for a person she loves. What they ought to do now is have her struggle with the force in less dire times.
This, I feel and agree, is the best route to take moving forward. Show that her desperation was a temporary boost, powerful in the moment but cannot be consistently reproduced on command.

I’m glad Sabine had flaws to get over to be able to use it, but I wish they would have done an ATLA approach. Like when Aang finally learned earthbending and Toph even said she would get Sokka out to avoid crushing him. So it makes sense for Sabine to have the force, but wish there was more work to achieve what she was able to do so quickly.
I think there are more influences at play here. If this is the home world of the ones, the force has to be STRONG. I feel like once Sabine really opened herself and kinda "let go" before almost getting killed, she was able to harness it. Now, I think this is temporary. I think next time we see her she'll use the force, but struggle to use it at the level during the battle. The emotions that come with this will cause her to go down the path of darkness.
You are right there are nexus’s in the force.. Perida definitely is one.. but now her connection to the force is only gonna grow because the environment so when she gets back she will probably be a decent Jedi
I think it is very unrealistic, she went from not being able to move a cup, to sending an entire person hundreds of feet in the air in 3 episodes.
A theory I would like to see is that somehow Ahsoka was really helping her with the force push off-screen. Even Sabine did not notice it, the reasoning for Ahsoka was to encourage SAbine and give her hope that she could master the force. Tell me, is this a bad theory I came up with? I
Not really hundreds of feet but ok. If anything Ezra did all the work when he jumped. Sabine's help barely got him to the ship lol

Rey did the same thing. I get it, not a huge fan of that quickness of ability but I think some of it can be explained by an awakening of sorts. Sketchy but I think that is what it is.
It is bad, cuz why not have that on-screen. No offense to you. But if you have plot centric progression, you have to show it.

Is it possible the planet enhanced her ability? Also I always thought a limitation on force use was self-doubt. What was most notable in that scene was her absolute confidence. Maybe it was hubris and she could feel whatever Baylen was in search of telling her to do it and it boosted her ego.
I thought this as well, and I think it's the most plausible explanation.

Given the situation, life or death of her friends, manifesting greater power than "expected" is, in fact, expected. It's so common in anime you don't think twice about it when you see it. If Sabine's potential is great enough to be able to eventually do the things she does, then under that pressure-packed situation, it's not unreasonable that she could perform those feats.
Exactly. This is not unique to this situation whatsoever. It happens constantly in Star Wars where the Force basically saves someone whether they tried to use it or not. The whill of the Force can be used as an explanation for almost anything.
Can't wait for Thrawn to make his lightsaber use the force to fight Rey!

I agree that the escalation from "can barely grab a light saber to full on yeeting a full grown man" in maybe a minute was a bit much. But I hope they find a way to acknowledge it and maybe tie it into future seasons. Maybe have something on the planet amplify her abilities, in the same way something calls to Baylan, maybe something else (or the same thing).
If the theories about Abeloth are true, she could have chosen Sabine as a potential "host body" to possess long term and is able to help directly or through Sabine to boost her powers. This could be to tempt her into performing some ritual to release Abeloth under the guise of more power, or more simply, just to get rid of Ezra as a potential strong force user it evaluated as a threat/moral compass for Sabine.
It’s the Kathleen Kennedyism of it all that rubs the wrong way - as with Rey and Captainesse Marvel, it’s the Mary Sueism with the real life message of, “You go, girl. All those people in your life just don’t appreciate how great you are when you’re just your Simone de Beauvoir you self, so just steamroll them.” Complete entitlement with no real work toward it, and a catastrophically toxic message. Not to mention narratively insufferable to the vast majority who can see through the horse crap. We already know real world that Filoni kow-towed to KK, and this is the clearest evidence. There can certainly be great strong female characters in sci-fi and fantasy; there are and should be. But this is *not* the way.

I just don’t know why they keep pushing this gender war garbage. There are misogynistic fans. There are misandrist fans. Don’t cater to either of them. Make strong characters. Period. Of course it’s annoying that a nearly all female show reveals that a character is not only an awesome mandalorian but also a Jedi now with force abilities, despite never being characterized as such before, while the male protagonist is a damsel in distress in need of saving multiple times by the stronger female leads.
Bo rules mandalore. Leah rules the resistance. Rey rules the Jedi order. Ahsoka rules the “non-Jedi who are Jedi”. But it’s a patriarchy, and all male fans are sexist? Feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for the self proclaimed sexist and misandrist acolyte. Sheesh.
If this show were gender swapped, it would be mutilated for being a sexist patriarchy and for making women appear weak. Instead it wins an award for women’s empowerment. 🤦♂️. Strong female and male characters are not mutually exclusive! When will Disney learn that?!
I think if Peridia is a portal to Mortis/ is somehow closely tied to Mortis and is therefore a place where the force is extremely strong, it could explain why Sabine was able to execute those feats in such a short amount of time.

If that's the case Ezra would have made that jump with no help at all.
Sabine being able to anticipate enemy attacks, or block 1 out of 10 blaster shots with her lightsaber, or just being able to aim better with her blasters, makes sense for the amount of "training" she received throughout the series. However, being able to force push Ezra, block blaster shots from behind her back, and force pull her lightsaber on her first try, I think is a bit too extreme, and very "convenient" for the plot.
Nevertheless, seeing Sabine dual weild both a lightsaber and a blaster while fighting made sense (like with Cal in Jedi: Survivor), since she has experience with both and may be more comfortable having ready access to both long range and close range combat.
I think it would have made better sense for her to use those more advanced force abilities during the second season, where she had a longer period of time to "consistently" train with Ahsoka or by herself. The way she sounded when Ahsoka asked if she kept up with her training seemed to me like she only did the bare minimum (if she even trained at all).
The only way for her to use those abilities we saw in the finale is if she somehow tapped into the dark side by letting her emotions control her, which could have been an interesting route to explore. Ahsoka did mention that "the dark side gives quick victory, but it imbalances you," so it could have been interesting to see Sabine resort to the dark side out of frustration and impatience, and thus end up learning a lesson on how dangerous the dark side truly can be.
There is a very important aspect that is overlooked by everybody who complains about this.
The Force is an entity with its own goals and desires. It has been the case countless times that in their darkest moments people have been saved by the force, not because they were somehow more capable at using it, but rather because the force itself was more willing.
I actually wish that there was at least one more episode of the series where we could at least get one maybe two more scenes of her being trained, and using the force and not training to fight

Correct me if I get this wrong. I feel like I heard somewhere that Jedi can block blaster bolts because they can sense it through the force. Their is a scene in the finally of Ahsoka where 2 nightroopers are behind her and shoot at the same time if not seconds apart and while Sabines not even looking she blocks both of them. To me that's something one couldn't do at Sabine's current level of force use. They rushed her force abilities and gave her the abilities of an experienced Jedi knight when she's at an padawan level.
yeah I agree. If they were planning on making multiple seasons or continuations of some description they could have made it a more gradual process. Not simply impossible at the start and then suddenly she can use the force. One example of how weak many average jedi were, is Geonosis. We see Coleman Trebor get killed in like 3 seconds by Jango Fett and that was just basic blaster bolt deflection. That guy's been training his whole life. The main 6 films allow jedi to improve quickly because the ones we see doing so are Anakin and Luke, who are canonically some of the most powerful jedi. Also even Anakin trained for years and years and still got destroyed by Dooku in Episode 2. I like that they showed some struggle with Sabine, but it should not be something she just unlocks and then its easy.

In legends books, Je'Daii weren't all warriors. Some were artists and ordinary people. I also like that at the end she chose her master and stayed with Ahsoka. Which is good because Ahsoka is not alone this time.
I actually don’t mind that she used the force to push there. It felt almost like more of a confidence thing in that moment. I think I had more trouble reconciling that fact that Ezra agreed to let her try it. What was his backup plan there? Haha I suppose they were trying to show how much he trusts her and what that could mean if you trust in each other. It’s a stretch I know, but it made for a bit of a shocking thing to watch at the time.
Yeah plus if worse came to absolute worse Ezra would have survived the fall. Force falling is a thing as well!

Reaching here… What if Peridea amplifies one’s force power, and that’s how Sabine pulled of those force moves? That would explain how and why Ezra could evade Thrawn for so long. Super-sized force powers would be totally kick-ass in future conflicts between the four left on Peridea.

My feeling isn't the same. I felt like the force push was way advanced for how much time she's been training however the retrieve all the lightsaber I think was right on par. I actually like that she has trouble even moving cups and had wished they prolong that part to show that she would get frustrated and have to learn the same lessons that Luke did. However I do realize they had a lot to cram into the series
She had much more than 2 months of training.. also she had ALL her mandalorian training to draw on, which is all about pushing yourself and survival- so once she tapped into it, and got herself into a state of BALANCE, it makes sense that on this gateway planet with immense power she is able to use the force in a life/death situation. I’ve had many times in my life where all of a sudden the stakes were high enough and you just perform out of the blue.. like swimming across a huge lake, halfway through you could be tired but stoping means you’ll drown so you keep going even if you’re cold and it’s longer than you’ve ever swam before..
If only literally any if that had to do with using the force, something that she's only been doing for 2 months. Physically training is part of Jedi training, but in the same way that physical training is part of any part of skill that uses your mind, health and spirit. It doesn't actually further your skill progress and learning, though. It just puts you in a better position. 2 months is still 2 months. You're not frontloading anything.

Sabine being related to Tarre Vizsla is a bit of a stretch to her being this Force Sensitive. Imo, Star Wars is so up and down I've come to give up on expecting anything good and consistent. I'll take whatever's good and throw out everything else out the airlock.

That’s a really good point- Din had a super hard time using it even after tons of practice and a lifetime of mandalorian training..
I agree 100% being the descendent of Tarr Vizla would explain her abilities although I agree the force push was too much too soon. Also did anyone notice throughout the entire series Sabine's reflexes were super sharp. She was deflecting blaster shots wonder woman style! I felt like that was Dave letting us know in a subtle way that she's got the gift and is actively using it.
On the other hand, I noticed her marksmanship was all over the place this season. Sometimes, she snipes half a dozen mooks in seconds. Other times, she couldn't hit the broad side of the barn with her blaster. It seemed very strange and, honestly, inconsistent to me. Don't get me wrong, I love the show. But I will admit it wasn't perfect.

I definitely agree that her skill level with the Force especially telekinesis shouldn't have been that proficient. It makes sense why she's training but I would've preferred her evolution as a Mandalorian rather than a Jedi.
Then, you don't understand her culture. Her evolution as a Mandalorian will support her evolution as a Jedi.

Ashoka (like Sabine) doesn't care about the nonsense that the Jedi spew. both of them have moved beyond the negatives of those cultures and any blood between them. both them are separate from their respective cultures--which, only made them better.
I'm gonna keep it... 💯 Sabine almost ruined this show for me. It was unnecessary and even cringe at times. It felt like a Disney Corporate marketing decision.

I like it. Most Jedi are known from a young age and show lots of promise. Kind of nice to have someone struggle a lot to do much with it and then get a few flashes of potential in super stressed moments.
I’d be ok with this, especially if she stills struggles in season 2, and doesn’t turn into a force wielding powerhouse like Sidious.

I like the slow workings of it, I think it’d make sense if that push was just a beginning to things. If that push was all she needed to unlock her complete potential idk how I feel about that. I feel like even after this she should struggle quite a bit, she just had one moment trusting completely in herself and in the force that helped her in a dire situation

I would have liked it if she only learned the basics of the force such as precognition, enhanced physical abilities, and the passive force shield. But then combined it with her mandalorian skills. She could have become a boba fett with minor force abilities which would still make her powerful but also way cooler and unique. Maybe they could have even introduced that martial arts in legends that was designed to take down force sensitives and have her learn that.
As I have pointed out to other RUclipsrs: If you watch the scene where she pushes Ezra her hands are trembling. She was straining to do it , but knew she had to or Ezra would fall to his death.

Regarding Sabine's character I'm much more concerned about (i) how her actress portayed her as a wooden plank or a piece of wet toast as far as her personality and emotionality goes, and (ii) how through her selfishness she single-handedly returned Thrawn to the galaxy and hence, presumably, brought about the deaths of millions of people AND all the other characters around her who know of this gloss over it or ignore it entirely. It would've been fine if she had succumbed to her desire to see Ezra again AND THEN Ezra and Ahsoka and others explicitly recognised the atrocity of what she's done; but for her to have done it and then everybody else pretend that it didn't represent a major moral failing and the need for character development is just infantile writing.
Absolutely what I was thinking. We could’ve had great character development for Sabine who did it out of selfishness but learnt the error of her ways after Ezra and Ahsoka berated her about the foolishness of what she did, and then she could’ve devoted herself to overcoming her demons through selflessly helping the people of Peridia and trying her hardest to stop Thrawn no matter what.
I wasn’t a big fan of this series because of how Sabine is so different from when we last saw her in Rebels. She was one of the best characters from Rebels and had so much personality, but that doesn’t come through at all in Ahsoka for whatever reason.

Something interesting I just noticed in a rewatch . in season 3 episode 15 trials of the dark saber: Sabine becomes frustrated After training and kicks a rock . As she walked Away, it's revealed it was the bendu and he looks upon her with a sly smile. This is the only time a presumed non force sensitive character Interacted with the bendu in the seriesThat I can recall. It's always either ahsoka ezra or kanan: He disappears Around everyone else but she was actually able to physically touch him. Knowing now Is what we know it seems like really subtle foshadowing
There was a discussion between Kannan and Hera in Rebels and Kannan clearly states that she is blocked herself off from the force. So this was like a damn wall breaking. Once she was able to make the connection and trust it, she could use it.
I never even realized that ANYONE can use the force, I figured the Mitochlorian count was higher for Jedi and that was a necessity. I like that idea that someone like Han could have but didnt since he didnt really believe or care, but could train to do it, so Sabine just doing it feels cheap on Disneys part of wanting to make their own characters stronger or more important than Georges.
I've been saying that this all goes back to that scene with the statue for weeks now, and that we're just seeing the progression of a very long standing arc.
Im not an overly critical person when it comes to any movie franchise not just SW. However if and when i do need to i usually try to give benefit of the doubt. You mentioned that Sabine was training with ahsoka fo maybe fhree months or so, did i miss where they said that? Im not sure they ever referred to a length of time she trained. Also did they say how long it had been since sabine last trained even on her own?. My point being, like obi-wan in his show being super rusty with the force having cut himself off from it to stay in hiding and not draw attention to Luke maybe sabine was further along in her training in the oast but because of Ahsoka leaving her etc she has regressed and kinda needed to shake the rust off?? Not saying she could have force pushed like that before, but maybe its not as far of a stretch the she could have some flow with the force after letting go? Just a thought.
If I remember correctly, Ezra first used force in an emergency situation when his friends were in danger. So it makes sense that Sabine did something similar in desperation. I do agree, however, that force push was a little too convenient and well done for the situation. Maybe it should have stopped there in terms of her skills with the force for the moment, but in the end, I still enjoyed the scene.
it happened a little too fast for me, if we saw some flash backs of he first training with Ahsoka and her being able to do simple things like push and pull and pulling her saber to her - it wouldn't have been that much of a stretch to see her do what she did in the end, But the results would have been the same either way, so I'm not all that fussed to be honest.
The Force whills itself in moments of importance. I feel like this is insanely obvious throughout Star Wars. Life or death situations enhance focus and heighten characters powers. The force basically saves people in their time of need. Luke in the wampa cave, Grogu/Mando with the mudhorn, Rey on Starkiller, Ezra saving Zeb, Obi-Wan saving Leia from falling, Cal saving Prauf, Leia in space, even non-force users like Jyn Erso with the Death Star plans at the end etc etc. These characters don't even consciously make the decision to use the force, it just happens. And now Sabine in a life or death situation finally harnesses her training. So not only is Sabine related to Tarre, she has trained for years AND it was a life or death situation. I feel like there's a very fundamental misunderstanding for a lot of fans on how or why the Force does what it does. The most wise characters in Star Wars almost always chalk up any events as the whill of the Force.
I think it would be cool in the next season to see Sabine struggle again. Like you said moments of stress letting the force flow but when she really tries later without stress and force flow she might struggle I would like to see that
I think it makes sense. I always felt like Dave Filoni was setting her up to be some kind of Force user back in Rebels. You've already painted the lore justification picture for us. If Ahsoka said she was afraid to teach her because of her potential, that's Filoni telling us she's going to have some formidable powers.
When it comes to the Force push, I think she got the odea from watching Kanan and Ezra do it many times. She was able to visualize the maneuver and pulled it off. Maybe because Ezra having faith in her, laying his life in her hands, gave her the extra mental fortitude needed to let go and use the maneuver.
There were a lot subtle hints Sabine had Force abilities in Rebels, she just didn't know she was using it. The Force push was definitely too much too soon though.
Force push really is a basic ability.. not like she shot lightning or deflected another force users push…

After watching a few interiews of Dave Filoni, he seems to favor making callbacks to previous events. When Sabine reached out to retrieve her lightsabor in a perilous situation it felt very similar to Luke's frozen encounter on Hoth in Empire Strikes Back. As for the push on Ezra, a necessary evil to keep the plot going for a decent cliffhanger at the end of the season.
I look at it like this, she was on a roll, for the first time she discovered how to utilize the force and I think the confidence she got from the saber grab helped her in doing the push, she was riding the high of using the force

I think the force push was a little much. She progressed a little too fast. However, I feel that Sabine pulling her saber towards herself is appropriate, since this was something that even Luke had to concentrate very hard to accomplish on Hoth in the ice cave .
I think Anakin could potentially be a factor in Sabine's quicker than normal progression. Maybe just the fact that Asohka is her master, she is able to progress faster. Anakin could have helped with that push. He has a stake in Sabine's success as a padawan to his padawan.
Having trained in BJJ and Judo, I know there is a point in your training where it just clicks. For me Armbars, I could drill them and preform them on a training partner, but never in live sparring. until it clicked and was able to catch people I was sparing with in armbars. I think it is similar to Sabine and opening herself up to the force. We've seen her try to manipulate objects in a safe environment, so like in BJJ and Judo, you practice the submission so that when it clicks you already know it. Sabine already knew how to force pull and push but connecting to the force, becoming open to it, was the struggle so once she was able to open herself and connect to the force these technique that she had been drilling have become easier for her to execute. I love that she is now categorized as a Jedi.
I believe she (Sabine) falls into the category of force latent- which you mention. An emotional dam preventing her development. That is until her her attachment or feelings for Ezra released that dam. All the hallmarks of the dark side. This explains her quick ascension.
Ignoring the fact that Sabine shouldn't be able to use the Force at all, because she's not Force-sensitive, the first time she ever used the Force was when she pulled the lightsaber, and then, five seconds later, she felt confident enough to push Ezra thirty meters over a huge drop. What?! If I were Ezra, I would have said, "No way. Ain't happenin', love. I'm staying right here with my feet on the ground." Luckily, Ezra knew that the script was on her side.
Her summoning the lightsaber was a stretch. Luke was able to do it with roughly the same amount of training when he was hanging upside down in the cave in episode 5 because he was able to clear his mind and remain calm. He was in a stressful situation but paused to focus - and that worked. Here though, Sabine is actively fighting someone. She's being choked out by a foe right in front of her. There's no time to focus, no time to relax and be calm, she just... Does it. Fair enough, maybe it was a one-time thing. And then she does that big push... ALL my respect for her as a Jedi just went down the drain. Apparently, every jedi in the original and prequel trilogies was just incredibly weak, because these new Jedi can blow up spaceships with force lightning and do huge force pushes the second time they ever use the force.
It is convenient, but I'm ok with it. She finally believed in herself. The Bendu noticed her, he woke up and looked at her with interest. So yeah, it was fast, yes. But its like learning to ride a bike, all of the sudden, when you got it, you got it. Now your riding. Still learning yes, but your riding.
I've said it before, but I really think she's getting more power and sensitivity by being on that planet. It's clearly calling to Baelin. It's clearly got all kinds of crazy magic crap. Even Ezra is more force oriented.
About the force push. I feel we can assign it to Sabine absolutely killing it with Ezra and having a blast fighting side by side with him after such a long time thus being put “in the zone”, from a force standpoint.
I agree about the Sabine might use the dark feelings to use the force. The best example is during the rebels episode learning how to use the dark saber. During her training she pour out her emotions about how she created a devastating weapon while in the empire academy. She did a force jump attack. When she was actually in dire straights of losing her life slowly and with ahsoka training saw the path how to use the force.
I don’t think I have shied away from the idea of her using it cuz it’s as you say she is related to Tar, I do agree that the build up to her finally tapping into it so strongly is a little too soon. I think maybe yeah ok she can get away with calling her lightsaber but the force push? Maybe not. I think what could had made it more believable is that is Ezra pushed her first then as he went to jump he falls short and Sabine uses the force to kinda suspend him in mid air just shy of the ledge to grab him and pull him up. But then the show would had ended differently but I dunno.
She trained for years. It was her Ezra hang-up that was holding her back. Finally getting back to him, a huge weight has been lifted from her. Also, she loves Ezra and wants more than anything to save him. That's why I buy that force jump/push.
disagree. In Rebels it was established that she had a mental block from the force and that was way before Ezra left. Additionally, I don't see how training can just suddenly kick in if she hasn't been connected with the force the whole time. Like how can force training actually mean anything if you aren't succeeding ever, because at that rate you are simply holding your arm out and doing nothing. It's like learning to sword fight but you have nothing in your hands. The lightsaber pull was ok as it was a smaller task but I think she should have developed a connection with the force prior and felt it through reflexes and instincts first before manipulating it.
@danielloader3351 Why didn't Obi-Wan use his force dash to get back to Qui-Gon in the Duel of the Fates? I'm guessing that Sabine can't do that all the time. That was the one moment for her to get everything she wanted. At least that makes sense.
Sabine watched Kanan and Ezra do this trick a dozen times, and it was even done TO her by Ezra and Kanan. Her pulling that lightsaber was her finally getting the knack of using the force, and she was clearly focused on her objective, more so than Ezra, so I think her accomplishing this works just fine.
She’s tapping into the force only through emotion and anger. Not really a Jedi thing but also not a “Rey 2.0” situation. That’s a misread
I think of it kind of like Avatar Aang when he locked the avatar state. He always had the power and trained to master it (without actually using it) with Guru Pathik but couldn’t use it until it was do or die.
