You serious? You didn't know, yeah. Like, at live performances when they see each other they greet each other in a cool mentor mentee way. Kirk Hammet of Metallica was also a student of Joe
no big deal at all, just 2 of the best guitar players on the PLANET or even this universe as far as we know.. I don't care what anybody says of any generation. Joe Satriani is the Grand Master of guitar melody, harmony, sound, tone, licks, decimation level .. every single little nuance. if you are open to it which most average folk are not, every song has a journey it can take you on, also memory triggers later in life with each song when i discovered and started listening to him in grade 9 .. Steve Vai is also a master at an extreme level, an acrobat on guitar & has provided astonishing musical art to the planet but my ego says "nobody is better then Joe Satriani", my soul tells me nobody is better then Joe Satriani, and if ya don't like that FACT....piss afffff but there is no judging or comparing the two , so i appreciate everything all that has been done and you two still writing music, pushing forward. unreal you two met each other that young and stuck it through to this point, beautiful. thank you , take care both of you
This is such an intimate, revealing, and yet joyful interview... but only 15 minutes?! Where's the rest of it?! You guys could go on for a 24-hour conversation and wouldn't still cover all you guys have gone through, by yourselves and together!! ☺️
These guys are in great shape and well spoken. I seen Joe when he toured Australia in 2008 at the Enmore theatre. He was laughing at me because I was crammed up near an exit door having to duck my head because I’m so tall.
"you can imagine what that was like at dinner. A big Italian family and i stand up and say 'I'm going to be a guitar player'." Well I'm Irish so all i can do is guess, but in my head I'm imagining a lot of shouting over each other and at least three or four times hearing "look what you're doing to your mother!" Am i close? Memorizing the notes sounds a lot more difficult to new players and non players than it really is. You see six strings (at least) and between 21 and 24 frets and think "that's 126-144 notes!" You only really need to know the whole notes, and only up to the 12th fret where the whole thing just repeats over again. Plus two of the strings are tuned an octave apart but they have all the same notes in the same position, so it's really just five strings you need to worry about. The tough part comes with open tunings, 30+ years and i still don't have a handle on them.
I can't say for Italian Americans but I'm Italian and I remember in high school after class we went to play in the studio, first we went to the guitarist's house where his mother made us food. it was impossible not to go out drunk. :D
It's so cool to see how these idols grew up and interacted throughout these great years of rock and metal. Comparing these days to what is happening today...it is depressing
That's not uncommon. Matter of fact it can be a good thing for the student. Seeing someone close to your own age playing at such a higher level can be a good motivator. Then again it could be an ego killer. Even now after 35 years of playing I'll watch some 8 year old freak of nature pull off something that I likely couldn't do with a week or two focusing on just that, and it makes me not want to pick the guitar up ever again. Like getting the shit kicked out of you in the school yard by a girl in front of half the school.
I would disagree, better. Different styles for sure. But at that level, you simply cannot say who is "better". You CAN say, who you like, or prefer more. I prefer Joe. Too many of Steves songs get really weird. Of course I own every cd both of them has put out, but I have found that i delete a LOT of Steves songs from his releases when making playlists, because they are dang near unlistenable, because they are so weird. And I think i have deleted like 4 of Joes... mainly the singing ones from Flying in Blue Dream..... lol
it´s very nice to see these two getting along so well after all these years...
2 absolute goats in the guitar arts...wow
Please do a jam together in the studio last 1 was amazing ❤
My wife is a teacher runs mostly in the 'folk scene' though. Even she knows of these two legends! Iconic guitar virtuosos.
And here I am, about to buy tickets for the Satch/Vai show in Kansas City next May..... first time seeing either.... I am so stoked!!!
you can tell tales about this.....legends 👌🏻
Such a pair of humble geniuses amazing story of their upbringing and what are the odds of having that kind of raw talent in one small town wow
First time I’ve seen him without sunglasses
I got my son and I tickets to an upcoming Satch and Vai show. I have never seen them live and I got us good seats. I’m so freaking excited!! 🥲🥲
LEGENDS.
Iconic guitar masters.
Definitely 2 legends right here!🤘
i love that guys
Jesus, this is so cool.
Wait wtf, Joe S was Steve V's teacher???
You serious? You didn't know, yeah. Like, at live performances when they see each other they greet each other in a cool mentor mentee way. Kirk Hammet of Metallica was also a student of Joe
man i wonder how you must feel seeing this and not knowing like your mind must be blown so big rn

My favorite Satriani album is Not of this Earth, but apparently it doesn’t count 😂
How much did Joe Satriani charge for the lessons? I have to know if I could afford it. lol It's a dream to be able to learn from Joe Satriani.
Joe satriani is not giving lessons anymore, and even if he did, it would be soooo expensive, i doubt that you could afford it
Joe was charging $5 a lesson at the time Steve Vai was his student.
@@ag3nt_green Wow. Now I know. If only...
These two !!!!
Nice little tribute to those public school educators who had to deal with a bunch of malcontent schoolkids. 😂😂
They would have been teenagers when they began as teacher and student.

This is the closest we'll ever get to the real life versions of Batman and Deathstroke
I feel Steve is one in a milion who actualy became better than his teacher who teacher is actualy Joe! Oh man!
No, not better, different, amazing... But skill levels are on par with each other. Both amazing shredders!
