I used to make this for my kids. I used country link sausage, onion, red potatoes, cabbage and seasonings. I just put it into the crock pot in layers and let it cook all day. The sausage browned in the bottom without being browned in a skillet beforehand. My boys loved it!

I do not brown my sausage, and I always use Polish Kielbasa. I also add sliced apples with the skin, sliced onions, salt, pepper, and brown sugar. I add just 1/4 cup of water because cabbage emits its own liquid during the cooking process.

Hi Catherine, I am a fairly new subscriber and I never commented but had to now. I LOVE your channel. This dish reminds me of what my Polish grandparents cooked when I was a child. Such nice memories from the 60s. I am fortunate to have a sister that lives near a Polish grocery store in Chicago and she ships me good Kielbasa. I will be making your recipe tomorrow. I have Kielbasa in the freezer. Your only difference was the Better than Boulion and I am definitely going to use that. I liked that idea. TY Catherine.

Catherine, this was one of the first things I learned how to make after I was married. I cooked the whole thing in a skillet on top of the stove. Instead of cabbage I used canned green beans with the liquid and potatoes and fresh carrots. Once the liquid was gone everything was completely cooked. Watching it closely let it scorch a little which really releases all the flavor in the sausage.
