Rest in Peace Rick Wilson (1953-1985). Brother of the vocalist Cindy Wilson, guitarrist and co-founder of B-52s. He passed away due to complications from HIV after completing the recording of the band's fourth album, Bouncing off the Satellites, released in 1986, but without any festive promotional work such as tours, for example.
Like Freddie Mercury, Ricky performed right until the end. I wish both of them were here today, but at least their music made them immortal. Most of us can't claim that.
Ricky was such an innovative guitarist. He used only four strings on his Mosrite. You could see he was ill here but he by the end he was rocking as hard as any of them. RIP Ricky Wilson
How brave was Ricky Wilson? He'd been feeling unwell for a couple of years by this point but didn't want to cause a fuss so carried on recording/touring. He was dead just nine months after this was filmed. He leaves one hell of a legacy though. Thanks for posting. RIP Ricky.
@@jamessutton4819 Even worse was Cindy getting a call the day before he died from the hospice he was at saying "you know your brother is dying with AIDS?". Imagine not knowing and getting a call like that? Am not surprised she had to leave the band for a while.
@@Lovethemseventies I did not know that, so heartbreaking. I used to do AIDS charity work then, many guys didn't want to talk about the obvious then but she deserved a proper goodbye
God bless him...Rest In Peace Ricky Wilson. When this band's album first came out everybody came for the lobster but then stayed for Ricky's great guitar sound!
Ricky looked so much more tense than usual, but he just can't help but jam out when the "Let's rock" section comes on at 3:16. Love to see that even with his ball and chain he was able to let go of his worries sometimes.
R.I.P. ricky Wilson, he put a huge wave with his particular kind of performing the guitar, i was in rock in rio and yes he looked very sick, but they tranaformed rock in rio, with kate, cindy, fred and keith, in the bigger disco on the world!!!!!!!it was very crazy and fun!!!!
R.I.P RICKY WILSON
PHENOMENAL!!! In front of HALF A MILLION people with Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, and QUEEN on the bill!!! Ricky was unfortunately full blown at this point though...and it is not fair!!
I remember hearing Kate say that when Ricky was done playing, he sweated so hard you could've literally wrung his shirt out and buckets of water would come out.
bruce_wayne625 the guitar player. Cindy's old brother. He and Fred cowrited Rock Lobster. He was a fuckin' amazing musician. He passed away in 1985 (AIDS).
Not sure if it was open tuning, but i know on rock lobster he tuned the 2 lowest strings to C and F, and the 2 highest strings to F for both, one octave apart. Very strange tuning indeed!@@vracan

Kate and Cindy. The true dancing queens
THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING PERFORMANCES THAT I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY WHOLE LIFE!!!!🎉🆘🔥😳💥🙏🚀🥳
This song is HARD! I don't care what anyone says. This song has a great bridge and is a PUNK song, no doubt! Underrated song.

nonna yourbuziness he needed only his guitar over the stage. Amazing, considering to there were Cindy, Kate and Fred.
I was astonished when he passed. He was brave for sure and didn't want to trouble the others. He only told Keith he was ill

This song is perfect 🖤
The guitar line in this song is very underrated, it's awesome. Ya big time B 52's fans out there tell me who was the brains behind this band. thanks

Great live performance
Love it..

R.I.P RICKY WILSON
Lembro-me da apresentação B,52 no Rock in Rio... Muito bom !
First time hearing them 1n the 70s I was blasted on acid couldn't stop playing them not proud of my past but its the way she goes
Said it before and I’ll say it again, we need a Cindy-Cam. All Cindy all the time!
screw Cindy give me Hot firy Kate
PHENOMENAL!!! In front of HALF A MILLION people with Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, and QUEEN on the bill!!! Ricky was unfortunately full blown at this point though...and it is not fair!!
Dressing like that in Rio is madness. Only Fred seems to have the senses to prevent heat exhaustion
that was the 80's, fashion before reason....the madness of youth. fun times.
Simple,,,.. Cindy I love U...
Beautiful!
I remember hearing Kate say that when Ricky was done playing, he sweated so hard you could've literally wrung his shirt out and buckets of water would come out.
This is fantastic
Poor Ricky Wilson. He looked thin, super tired and sounded pretty tired too. I don't think he lived too much longer after this.
he died 9 months after this performance
more cowbell
Brilliant!!!
Ricky freaking shredding it as usual.
Foi o primeiro Rock em RIO

Queria ter ido nesse show, infelizmente o Rock In Rio não existe mais.
Existe sim. Todo ano tem
I envy you that Ricky Wilson, played guitar, but Brazil envies that Argentina, has Maradona!!!!!!!!!!
Te amo con Cindy Wilson
Somewhere, Christopher Walken is drooling.

He was the B-52s guitarist by then.
who's ricky wilson?
bruce_wayne625 the guitar player. Cindy's old brother. He and Fred cowrited Rock Lobster. He was a fuckin' amazing musician. He passed away in 1985 (AIDS).
I think its a Mosrite guitar he's playing and he used to always remove the two middle strings of his guitar.
@@indiandoctor7900 and use open tuning
