  • My 2007 Toyota power steering fluid line rusted out and my power steering covered its self to Strong Arm steering (haha)
    Here's a quick temporary fix with hoses and clamps!!
    you will need
    - hose to go around your metal high pressure line.
    -hose clamps
    -flat head screw driver for clamps
    -the right fluid for your power steering system. my matrix takes dextron automatic transmission fluid
    Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
    Hope this helps!j

    That is a low pressure hose ! You will never find a clamp on a high pressure line?

    Fantastic!!! Lol I've been dealing the same issue and never thought HOSE on the HOSE! I had the hose clamps already (but on the wrong part of the line) so ill give this a try and get back to you!

    You van also cut the hard line at the leak and slide the metal hose into the rubber hose on both ends without cutting it and put your clamps ,but whatever works

    Are you sure it wont crush the line? I got power steering lines I can't find parts for. I need to try this as a temp fix. But I'm just worried it might crush the line. I do worry also that I know when water gets trapped inside that rubber hose. It could rust out even faster (But as a temp fix it might be worth it to buy some time). I might give this a try although. I just need to know if it would crush the line?

      Sorry for the late reply man.
      I wouldn't think the clamp would crush the line.. I mean it needs to be changed anyways so I wasn't to worried about damaging it!
      I could very well be wrong but the clamp is pretty flimsy and I can bend it by hand so I would think the clamp would break first!

    can i use a replacement pressure hose? because original is very expensive

  • @leftovertech
    @leftovertech Год назад +4

    Considering the fact that the original hose had a spring clamp, it was the power steering return line.
    The high pressure line has to hold about 1400 psi.
    I guess it's not impossible that those hose clamps will hold for a while, but I would be very nervous.
    Best of luck! I really hope I am wrong.

    • @Quinns_Cars
      @Quinns_Cars  Год назад +1

      I was worried about the pressure for sure and I honestly did not think this was going to work but still going strong!
      I hope it continues to hold up haha
      I'm not tooo nervous cause yeah sure no powersteering is no fun but atleast if it fails it shouldnt be to unsafe as i can still turn the wheel!
      I just gotta make sure to not ruin the pump trying to get home if it's dry haha.

    Update: I tried it, with my leak, it's hard to see were the hole actually is. It drips very slowly. I tried it with 5 inch hose to cover up the line in the area. It did seem like it was going to work because for 7 mins I believe it wasn't leaking. Then it started leaking again. I'm trying to tighten up the clamps. I have 3 of them. Hmmm.

    • @Quinns_Cars

      It's so hard to see I know!!! Any luck with the cheap easy/sketchy/greasy way?? Haha

      @@Quinns_Cars Well, I used JB Weld steel stick on the bottom. I did get it to stop leaking from the bottom. But then the leak grew and started leaking from the top. And I couldn't stop that leak with steel stick. Don't ask me why. Maybe I slowed it down.
      But finally got lucky on parts and just replaced the whole power steering line. I also probably almost found a way to make my own power steering line as well if I couldn't find parts. I don't know why the mechanic tried to tell me they couldn't do it. Because the power steering line was too small.

      @deegee2416 glad you got it fixed! Seems like you did it the proper way.
      Almost 1 year later I got another leak. Figured it would be the same spot again but NOPE another rusted out spot on the driver's side. This time it wasnt hust dripping.. it was spraying alot!!!
      Anyways fixed it the same way. Used 3 clamps this time (literally noticed right before work)
      It worked again hahaha. Replacing the line seems much better!!
      Might just have to do that next

      @@Quinns_Cars Thank you now I got another maintenance issue on my car. This time "brake" light is going on (dash). Brake reservoir drains (maybe al ittle) enough every two weeks. Can't find the brake leak. It's possible that if I wait long enough maybe I can find it. Or maybe the brake drums are eating too much brake fluid. It's on a 1990 -1993 honda accord LX auto series. Work is killing me, less time. 40 hours. And upper management is nitpicking. Man stress of life.
