I saw this live as well. I remember when they did the show at DCI Allentown, they had a giant black cover with the Phantom's mask on it that the corps would pull over themselves and hide under and they accidentally had it turned inside out so you could barely make out the mask. Everyone in the stands laughed a bit but they still brought the house down. My fave show ever along with the 1987 show.
Phantom of the Opera fan...seen it several time. The 89' SCV show is one of my favorite DCI shows of all time....just as dramatic as the stage play! Bravisimo!
I saw the finals live in 89' That was the best show ever by scv, imho. As I recall they added the disappearing act for the semis. In addition, in the opener, when they folded up the triangle no one had ever seen anything like that. The crowd went to their feet and stayed there!
