@J PrOvost More like fans only focus on General Effect, while judges have to consider difficulty of book, tuning, crispness of lines, and all kinds of other details that simply seem like ways to rig to other people. I personally can think of tons of shows that were my favorite shows of the season, but they simply weren't the same caliber shows as other corps, namely scouts New York Mourning, Crown's Rach Star, Bluecoats the Boxer, Pretty much every Blue Knights show, this show. i think it is totally ok to say that these shows are playing more for the hearts and minds of the audience rather than the judges. i also think there is a proven track record of corps gaining prestige, and increasing it's pull for the next couple seasons from having shows like these that the audiences love, and in effect getting more talent in the coming years. These are the type of shows that solidify and create corps, those special shows where they earned the heart of the audience and solidified their base on their image, while perhaps not earning the best scores. Taste like this shows you are a true DCI fan, and i commend you for the Fiddler shout out. I personally was born in '93, but i wish i was alive to see both years of Phantom by Vanguard, they did a closer with a homage recently, but maybe they bring back the book for the next generation, like current movies are doing.
I just bawled my eyes out. #1 Les Miserables is one of my favorite musicals ever #2 this is so well executed that I had goosebumps from the first measures
@@jjh2456 no one's bashing the fabric. They could easily keep the fabric and modern look with a design that defines their core identity. The only corps that has done this is the Blue Devils and they seem to keep winning... sure SCV beat them one year but they weren't able to do it two years in a row.i guess Carolina Crown has as well. They don't really have a defining corps color but their design stays consistent so you can tell they keep their corps identity at heart.
Eli Swanson If you're not seeing it in person you're not doing it justice. I love watching the videos as much as anyone, but any DCI fans who haven't seen a live show yet DEFINITELY should!
This. This was the first DCI show that I ever saw in person; and that first moment when they turn around and blew my hair out of my face is when I fell in love with Drum Corps, and have been ever since. Santa Clara Vanguard made me fall in love with Drum Corps, and they will always be my favorite.
The best era for uniforms imo, stuck to the traditional style and scheme of the corps while still being stylized to the show. 100x better than the latex body suits today
Everytime the chorus comes on, tears just fill my eyes and I feel like everything is going to be okay. I refuse to forget about this performance. I truly believe that no show will ever live up to Santa Clara's masterpiece
I love that standing ovation during One Day More. Love Santa Clara Vanguard. When I'm a little but older maybe two or three more years I'll audition to be in the Santa Clara Vanguard.
coming back to this video bc it was my first dci show back when i was a 14 year old marching band kid who played the baritone! saw this at the georgia dome and we had a les mis show the following year!!!
I would have given SCV the bronze medal, and I come from the Maroon team.... The other thing is if SCV could do 1812, that would fulfill all my life dreams.
We’re doing one day more for one of our songs this year for marching band. I’m in high school the colorguard was amazing. I started to tear up because I want to do that when I’m older I want to do that type of colorgaurd that was amazing
I get sad watching this because drum corps nowadays wouldn’t be caught dead marching drill like that or playing music like that. I think what’s happening on the drill field now is super interesting and entertaining a lot of the time but I’ve scarcely heard a corps in the past 4-5 years that have been able to put this much emotion in their sound and their drill.
I don't think there is a "best corps". I think each year a different corps shines out greater than the others whether they get first or not. But a lot of the times the corps that shines out the best ends up getting first place like Phantom 2008 or Cadets 2011. And I completely agree this show was beautiful.
Nobody puts musicals on the field as well as Vanguard. Their 89 performance of Phantom is still one of my favorites.

I saw 89 live...that was intense
Thanks 😁 - SCV '89
The DCI show that united drama kids and band kids
ArtificialGinger as someone who is both of these I nutted the first time I heard this
SCV has never had a bad show
Change my mind
Chicken Permission 2.0 me
Chicken Permission 2.0 how far back we talkingV
Chicken Permission 2.0 hahah last year was so great but this year SCV, blue coats, blue knights, and blue devils all kinda dropped the ball.
The front ensemble feature in the beginning is one of the most beautiful things I have heard from a pit.
Besides the front ensemble feature in the beginning of the 2016 show...
@@profightcompilations4764 THIS. I was just about to make this comment.
SCV just knows how to give people goosebumps whenever they please
Especially the brass hit in 2014
ofcourse! #giveittome
When people ask why we do it... The crowd at 1:50 explains it all.
+MrDigitalhax so true
Oh my god, I was almost on my feet in my room, just from listening on my shit ass laptop speakers when that company front hit
I just bawled my eyes out.
#1 Les Miserables is one of my favorite musicals ever
#2 this is so well executed that I had goosebumps from the first measures
maddie woodcock YASSSSSSSSS. This is how I found out about the musical.
Samuel Bang definitely my favorite musical. And the solos in this are just so good
maddie woodcock YASSSSSSSSS
Samuel Bang marching band is my favorite season
Geeze that ending...that's why I love drum corps. Gives me chills
I miss these uniforms.
Well bud they wearing t shirts now
@@keeganherron8022 good ol pajamas
It’s funny. Since they made the change to pajamas they have been in the top 3, winning in 2018.

Xxolotll oh I agree. It’s kind of like how I wish the Cavies would go back to the green and black.

Eli Swanson If you're not seeing it in person you're not doing it justice. I love watching the videos as much as anyone, but any DCI fans who haven't seen a live show yet DEFINITELY should!
How can you not appreciate that front ensemble
CHILLS.

Nothing beats the wall of sound you get seeing a show in person
The best era for uniforms imo, stuck to the traditional style and scheme of the corps while still being stylized to the show. 100x better than the latex body suits today
Modern dci makes me sad
I like what Crown has done with theirs. Even though they change the uniform, it's still 100% crown when you see them.
@@BOTSamJ Sam J when change 😱😱
Latex body suits who
It’s only gotten worse :(

Have you seen 87? Or 89? Or 91? Or 92?
AznAfroMan513 Stay classy!
I usually only get chills from seeing a corps in person... But alas, here I am,
CHILLS
Without fail, every time I watch this section I'm in tears. So beautiful!
That mello solo at 0:55 is great
I love that standing ovation during One Day More. Love Santa Clara Vanguard. When I'm a little but older maybe two or three more years I'll audition to be in the Santa Clara Vanguard.
Can’t believe it’s been 10 years. I may be biased but this is one of my favorite SCV shows
My favorite show of the year!! Couldn't help but shout "Vanguard" with the rest of the crowd when I saw this at championships!
I keep coming back to this because it never stops being beautiful. Bravo to all the performers and staff for their enduring performance.
I'm a little sick of Les Mis at this point, but S.C.V totally pulled it off. I loved it when the corps disappeared
These tears on my face tho....
Saw this show live. it was amazing
Me too. it was awesome!
1:08 I swear this gives me goosebumps every time I hear it, absolutely beautiful
MAJOR CHILLS WHEN 1:52 HIT. DEAR LORD SIGN ME UP FOR THIS CORP.
I miss this SCV.
The front ensemble was so delicate and beautiful!
One of the greatest to date presentations of a musical on the field. since Requiem for an era by Yankee Rebels. I hate they cut off the ending .
coming back to this video bc it was my first dci show back when i was a 14 year old marching band kid who played the baritone! saw this at the georgia dome and we had a les mis show the following year!!!
One of the reasons I fell in love with DCI, thank you.
SCV company front gets me everytime in this show
SCV. Man. Can't get enough of it.
I’m doing Les Miserables for our show this year, and every time we play it, it gives me chills
This show was so good. I'm glad I got to see it in person mid-way through the year (DCI Minnesota). They should have placed 2nd.
That big guy with the glasses in pit. I swore i seen him in a video of 2011 blue devils in their pit!
+Tristen Naquin Nope I marched with him. His rookie year in the DCI activity was with SCV in 2012.
I would have given SCV the bronze medal, and I come from the Maroon team....
The other thing is if SCV could do 1812, that would fulfill all my life dreams.
They performed 1812 with Pacific Crest and the LA Phil earlier this year, a week or so after DCI finals.
I still cry a little every time I watch that hit. Always been a dream of mine to do a Les Mis show and they just did it so well.
Coming back to this iconic moment after they won. Very well deserved victory SCV
Watch this everyday it seems lol. Love the contra sound so much!
they deserve a two and a half minute clip. LOVE Les Mis, LOVE SCV.

Loved this show live! So much passion!
This makes me cry every single time I watch this
One of the most underrated company fronts ever. Chills.
If anyone ask's me why I love drum corps so much, 1:53 is why.
I NEED the full version of this show omg
I get sad watching this because drum corps nowadays wouldn’t be caught dead marching drill like that or playing music like that. I almost never cry. This had me bawling my eyes out.
Les Mis is my band show this year
This gave me chills! SO GOOD.
Einfach nur toll, es macht Spass zu zu hören!!!!
Thank you rifles. Huge perfect landed 4's.
Seeing the crowd all start to rise at the end is amazing
I am actually crying from this!
RIP SCV. Hope they come back strong soon
THE FEELS ARE REAL
Many chills when played through a nice speaker system at high volume
Perfect to this very day! 😭💚😭💚
Love this show
that baritone in the duet is my band director
Amazing! I'm glad my friend introduced me to drum corps! :)
More of this in DCI please...
Joel, I love the show because it was visually stunning. Not because it was les mis
FINALLY THESE VIDS ARE OUT

The ending gave me chills..awesome
I love the last part of this video
