- Hello hello! Welcome to a full week in my life of being back at school! This was an exhausting week and it really reminded me about the importance of taking time for myself. We all deserve and NEED that time in order to be a good educator the next day. In this video I continue to set up my classroom, take you through two presentations I get to do, and open up about a fear of mine that I was able to work through this week. I feel myself growing and becoming stronger, and for that I am grateful. Love you all, thanks for always, always being here.

I’m in school for education right now. So it’s crazy that I never thought ever in my journey of school that I’d be learning about teaching during a pandemic. Or relating normal studies of Ed to go with our setting now of a pandemic.

I’m a first year 8th grade science teacher this year and the students start the 23rd but I’ve been doing PD since the 4th. Every time someone asks me how I’m feeling I tell them with every day I feel more prepared and less prepared at the same time. I can already feel the anxiety seeping in. However I am already establishing boundaries for my mental health so I’m able to pour in to my kiddos when they come. Thank you for sharing your story and what you’ve learned with us. It helps more than you know to know that everyone is in the same boat.
What you were feeling is some thing that all of us have felt before and something that many of us are feeling right now, you are never alone. I’m proud of you for setting boundaries and doing what is best for you going into the school year!
The bathroom meditation moment is so true. I’m not a teacher, but sometimes if I’m somewhere and feeling overwhelmed and need a good 5 minutes to recharge or a good cry is a great scape! 😅
I remember your video talking about your trauma from the shooting really touched me with how honest and open you were. It’s so remarkable to see how far you’ve come and the light you are to your staff and teaching community. I would have thrived with a teacher like you in middle school!

lockdown drills are the one thing i am always so anxious about every school year. thankfully i’ve never had to deal with a proper lockdown but when i was in elementary school we did a lockdown drill and they made it a little too realistic and i had to be stuck in this tiny little closet with my classmates and i honestly feel like that traumatized me a little bit. So now whenever we do one in school i get a panic attack and it’s truly such a horrible feeling. Thank you for talking openly about what you’ve been through

Ms. Brittany, I am still deciding on my electives for tenth grade and I was not able to decide a few months ago because ninth grade was a tiring and difficult year. I have been working on my novel this summer as well as a few short stories and poems. I hope to balance my writing alongside my schoolwork. In a few days, you will begin teaching your middle school English and writing workshop classes. I bet the stitch that broke on your dress was the stitch that’s meant to be removed after purchase! A lot of times they put that stitch in to keep the shape in shipping. They do this on suits as well (a lot of people don’t know it’s meant to be removed) also meant to be removed are the outer tags on blazers & coats!

You might want to go through the cards and remove some of them, otherwise it might get awkward with your middle graders 😂 maybe you already have, but I just wanted to get it in there before school starts. I appreciate your channel a lot, it inspires me to continue growing as a teacher.

My first year teaching was last year and it was overwhelming to say the least. I’m going in later today to set up my classroom and this totally pumps me up! Do you know where your sneeze guards are from for the student desks? I can’t find any good ones 😭

thank you so much! it has been different depending on the school... sometimes it is a certain amount, sometimes it is a stipend, sometimes it is a reimbursement situation!

I live in Long Island, NY. I am having a ton of anxiety going back to teaching even with the vaccine. Are you struggling too with Covid anxiety? I can't sleep...weepy...nervous....etc.
I am! Every single day! I canceled my Orange Theory membership, it’ll end next month… it makes me so nervous even going there sometimes. I try my best to remember what I can control and follow all guidelines. Day by day!
I truly wish I knew what steps to take to become a teacher. I also don’t know if I could even get financial aide. I doubt I even would have the time having to work and being a mom on top of that. Maybe someday. Until then I will live through these videos lol
There are “alternative certification programs” for teaching specifically! Look into some for your state!!:)
Yes, there are so many programs and resources out there! I can only imagine how overwhelming it might feel at first, but do some research when you have time--there is a lot out there!

I wish we had your set up. We only have to report one day before the students come and everything else has to be on our own time. It's fine sometimes because we can pick our hours, but it can be hard to make yourself go in on your own time.
We are starting without masks, but we'll see. We don't have a big outbreak in our county right now and our schools are super small. I have 13 in my homeroom and that's considered to be on the bigger side. :)
What books did you use for your presentation? I would like to see if I could pick them up. :)
