    Thank you for posting this! I am no teacher yet, I am only 13, but I know that secondary education is what I’m going into for college, and I love watching school teacher vlogs to see the “inside scoop.” Thanks a bunch!

    Just a friendly tip: if you have a cricut you can save your powerpoint slides as a jpeg. Then, upload to cricut as a print then cut, print, laminate and then use your cricut to cut :) *keep in mind the actual printing space will be minimized a bit due to the cricut margins*

    This is already such a nice classroom. I am going to be a teacher in Germany next year. Finally. So these type of videos really motivate me to keep on studying for my teaching exams this fall. I am just a bit confuses about the grading system you use, isn’t that a big jump from an F to the others?

    • @jess_8ch
      @jess_8ch  Год назад +1

      Glad it was helpful! Keep pushing, it’s challenging but so worth it if you find the right fit for you. And basically anything below a 60 is failing (F). They can get below 50 on their classwork throughout the quarter but their final grade can’t be lower than a 50. In that case, which isn’t often, we would just put a note that the students actual average was below a 50! Either way they get an F 🤷‍♀️ it is kinda weird!

      @@jess_8ch Thank you, I will. Teaching and coming up with lessons is my passion. Though your grading system seems to be a little different to here in Germany. Generally, to pass one needs to get over the 40-45% bench mark (for languages). Though, the grades is given in numerical numbers from 1-6 (in some states it is more differentiated to 1.3, 1.5 etc too). It is also not the best and criticized every now and then.

    Hi, this will be my first year teaching! I have never seen the hot glue gun trick for hanging things on the wall. Will it pull the paint off when I go to take it down at the end of the year? I assume not, but just wanted to confirm before I started hot gluing things! Also, I have never seen the matte spray paint trick. Thanks for sharing!

    I just want to let you know in your 10 drawer cart with your missing work you have your science extras and ELA extras backwards so it doesn’t make the full leaf. Though I don’t really know if it bothers you. It’s looks amazing though!!

    that grading scale is frowned upon now. The new wave in most of the US is mastering learning or equitable grading. We will see how that goes as it has pros and cons.

    After many years of teaching, I notice that the majority of teachers have an aversion to any blank wall space. I don't understand little posters placed above the white boards and/or up near the ceiling which students can't even read so they are pretty much ignored. I have come to believe that simplicity is best and everything that is posted should be highly intentional and relevant. It's as if there is Pinterest challenge going on every beginning of the school year. Kids can be overstimulated. I once read that a new bulletin board has a life span of 12 minutes to capture a student's attention.Maybe if we focused less on classroom decor, and more on instruction, our kids would achieve more and there would be one less thing on a teacher's plate.

    • @jess_8ch

      Everyone has their personal preference. I decorate my room to feel cozy and welcoming for students and myself. It’s my home away from home the majority of my days so why not make it something I love being in. Also- I used the same decor last year and my students constantly commented on how calm they felt and how it was a “vibe”. They constantly used the reference tools I had on the wall bc it was a way for them to use their resources and practice independence. Also, the vast majority of my students test scores were beyond improved by the end of the year. I think we can all have our own opinion and decorate how we want without making others feel bad for how they run their classroom. I enjoy decorating my room and it’s something I’ll keep on my plate!!

      @@jess_8ch Please don't infer I was being critical. I was just offering another perspective from years of experience. Of course, every teacher has their own style and is free to pursue their own path in their style of teaching. Through the years, you become wise in your own experience and hone your skills within your philosophy of teaching. I wish you a good school year.
