No wonder I loved Open Water and Cleopatra and Frankenstein. Before the Coffee Gets Cold is a bit on the cringy side for me. Can't wait to pick up the other books!!

agree - those books feel a lot more 'real' as they tackle some tough topics we see in today's world! and totally can see how you found BTCGC a bit cringe as it's often on the nose but I loved the messaging either way (:

I don't know your thoughts on Normal People but I'm shocked it's not on this list, that is THE "I love you - it'll pass" book to me 😭

this is so controversial but I actually didn't like the book, the miscommunication trope is just not my cup of tea 😭 but I think I read it at the wrong time in life so I do want to give it another try as it seems criminal to dislike it

I adore the Before the Coffee Gets Cold series, all of the following books in the series are amazing as well. especially the one set in Hokkaido, Before Your Memory Fades.

@@katerinareem They're all just so easy to read and easy to understand and empathise with. So cosy too. Makes me want to drink all the coffee in a café and go on my own little journey through time.

Another great concept for the recommendations :D I recently watched Fleabag for the first time and this show hurts so good...
I have to read White nights, it's been too long since I've read any Dostojewski's book. He was a disgusting asshole, but his writing is just something else. I'll check out rest of those books, too. Thank you!

omg so happy you have also watched, i'm obsessed with how funny but also how dark it gets at times! white nights is a great read because it's also super short - can pretty much get through it in one sitting!

@@katerinareem yes! this show is perfect combination! beside the Boo's storyline that was really gut wrenching, i really liked fleabag's relationship with her sister. i don't know how they managed to show how emotionally distant they are, but they care so deeply and know each other so well at the same time. it's mind blowing to me. i mean, you can't talk with each other for few minutes without making awkward jokes or running away, but you still manage to undestand so much about yourselves?
back to the white nights! i read it yesterday and i really liked it! eventhough the reactions of characters are pretty ridiculous, they made me nostalgic about this intensity of feelings towards newly met person. Descriptions of loneliness and looking for even the crumbs of connection were highly emotional for me. thank you for this recommendation!!! i'll check out other books from this list if they're available in poland. it's easy with russian literature in here xD i've never seen so many translations and versions of e-books and audiobooks for any other books, that there are for Dostoyewski's writings😅

@@zuzannawikar5479 i completely agree, i don't have a sister myself but i've heard others say it's quite an accurate representation of sisters relationships when you're not totally close but obviously love each other endless amounts which was super interesting to hear! and omg yay glad you liked it - i also agree with you that the reactions are sometimes ridic (like what drama queens) but i think given their young age it's quite accurate in showcasing this limerence for others we barely know and this feeling on having an intense crush! and hahah well his work has been around for many years so not surprised to hear many translations have been made in that time (:

I've never heard of this show, Fleabag, but it sounds like something I would love... I'm wondering if "White Nights" might be the Dostoevsky one to get me in to his writing. I am a sucker for heart ache and unrequited love stories

fleabag is extremely british, so it's hailed in the uk as one of the best tv shows to have been created in recent years! and definitely - white nights was the first dostoevsky book I read and I think it's nice to ease you into his writing as it's super short so you can get a taste whether you like his style without investing a lot of time into his huge other books!
