Jay Nation is no longer the active RUclips account associated with Sleight of Hand 101. Sleight of Hand 101 was meant to guide beginner card magicians into the realm of magic and then to push them towards higher learning through other cardistry entities. There are 31 tutorials under Sleight of Hand 101 and there will be no more posts. I understand that this may frustrate some of you, but my new media business "Milson Productions" is my passion and will lead this channel forward from here on out. I hope you can understand. Please enjoy the tutorials and, if you dare, check out some of my new creations under Milson Productions! Thank you!
I really enjoy your tutorials. well explained I'm just a beginner, but I feel like I actually learn stuff.
Very good video, thanks for posting it.
Sorry for the length of this post, but I've found a cool variation (I'm sure I'm hardly the first to do this): after showing my right hand empty on both sides, when I push the top card up, it's completely covered by my fingers (around the second joint) so it isn't seen moving, and I lower it with my left index in time with my lowering right hand as it slides out the second card. By the time I have the second card out of the deck, the top card is 95% square with the deck again, and I square it completely as I do the other moves with the right hand.
I usually cover the initial cop by saying something like "Lots of magicians do stuff like this" then begin rubbing my hand up and down lengthwise on the deck in a slightly exaggerated way, usually copping the second card on my second pass so that it's on an offbeat and it doesn't look like I've done any moves. The aim is to do it just as smoothly as the other passes. It's important to do it a couple of more times to cover the move. I've found that it requires the lightest of touches to move the top card and slide the second card with the heel of the hand, so the move can even be done on a pass where it doesn't even look like the right hand has fully touched the deck
Then I'll hold my hand with the palmed card at the base of the deck and say something like "But the real way is to make little circular motions like this" then begin moving my way up the deck. I even tilt the dirty hand a bit to get the bottom corner, which further adds to the impression that there's nothing in that hand. If I'm feeling brave I'll even briefly palm the card and take my hand fully off the deck as though checking to see if anything's changed (turning the back of my hand towards the spectators). Then when I get to the top of the deck with the rubbing motions, I jam the palmed card against the left index and rub sideways while spreading my fingers, which really adds to the illusion that the card has appeared right before the spectators' eyes. It takes a lot of practice to get the copping move down smoothly without slowing down, but it really throws people because they won't remember any suspicious moves.
Doing it this way, there's no impression on the part of spectators that you're squeezing the deck, because the first move has been done well in advance of the reveal. It took me months of practicing every day to make it look natural, but it's very strongly visual. Oh, almost forgot: when rubbing your right hand on the card, the majority of the pressure should be on the fingertips so that it doesn't sound like two cards rubbing together. It also helps to have the palmed card a bit farther back in the hand to allow more skin from the fingers to rub against the deck. Also, any time the spectators can see the face and edge(s) of the deck, it should be 100% square, especially for the reveal.
I have changed the title of this tutorial to better fit the name of this sleight. When I learned this I was informed it was known as the Ego change, and a few years down the road someone told me it was the Cardini change, and obviously now it's referred to as the Erdnase change. With all this overwhelming information I'm simply going to side with the masses! You are welcome!
Jay Nation I love your channel, you influence me into being a magician! I have a request if you could do a trick and teach us to impress girls~~!!! :D
Anson Lau Haha well in my personal experience it's not the sleight of hand that impresses the ladies, it's the smooth talking before, during, and after the trick. If I may offer a tip though, don't go overboard when showing tricks or flourishes to girls. Do one or two tricks, then take a break and grab a drink or do something else so that A. You aren't being a show off--and B. They aren't bored of your magic, but rather interested in seeing more!
+Jay Nation not come and get it by krewella whats the background music
This is nothing like the ego or cardini change... Completely different. It's just the erdnase change and nothing like the former two... Like 10000000 miles away from it.
cardini chanhe is totally different
your really talented
1. because i can't get my head round it
2. because think its really cool
Erdnase change first published in 'expert at the card table' by S.W. Erdnase (which I am able to brag that I have almost perfected every single move in) which is where it gets its name 'erdnase change' from.
Cardmaster Andmagic I appreciate the history!
this trick really blows peoples mind
if you would like a little tip, doing this change don't push back the top card |(or second card while still changin) back with the first finger while still being in few, the moment when the hand is moved over the pack to change it you cover it with the hand and then push it backsince it shouldnt apear that the top card ever moved
your are a brilliant magician but here is some constructive criticism, take away the intro , it is more of a Minecraft PvP intro than magic
You Play minecraft pvp ?
Especially nowadays
Yay, Jay! Nice tutorials as always :)
carl Rødbro Cheers man!
Could you do an ambitious card routine? I'd love to see what you would implement
Kokkie Monster 69 Hmm, I can see what I can do!
Hey Jay, wondering how much to spend on my first deck of bicycle cards? Great video.
ZactheCreeper CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP! I think a typical bicycle deck where I live is only a few bucks at the most
We're hI live you pay about $5-6 dollars Canadian at the grocery store. $8 at the game store and about $14 for a sleeve of 12 decks from Costco.
Hey Jay the change is called the erdnase change, the ego change and the cardini change are a lot different from this one. I even think you made a video about the cardini change. The ego change is basically a cardini change with a little twist from daniel garcia. Thought you might wanted to know :)
Lukas Verstraete Haha yeah I've been told countless times from other youtubers, but I focus this video on the tutorial and it's content versus the name being off. What can ya do?
You are absolutely right keep making these awesome tutorials. I just thought it would be easier for other people to find the right video :P
2019 still popping
Great tutorial!
I like this, I've nailed it once and messed up tonnes of times, my problem is not getting enough palm grip to slide the card out, any tips on this jay,
Gazz M Perhaps try moving the first card up a bit farther (i dislike doing this but if you can't palm the second card then you have no other choice here)
Jay Nation cheers mate
Bad ass Jay! Thanks man you are a great teacher
The ego change is a completely different change,Jay
archun3141 All I know is I grew up learning this as the Ego change so when I posted it I was unaware of the name issue. I've changed the title to address this, but I don't desire to re-make the video simply because of a name error. The effect is still useful :)
is there an easier way to do this with smaller hands
your tutorials are GODLY!!! they have helped me a lot. BTW do u use plastic or paper coated cards????
+Persassy McShizzle Plastic coated usually
Brilliant man! I feel like a real…charlatan! Lol!
My fingers are too bony, so the card shows between my fingers. I don't suppose there is any solution other than bulking up my hands. But if there is, any help would be much appreciated.
awesome!! I love ur channel
This is most known as erdnase change. You should edit the title and write ego/erdnase change.
More tutorials please!!!
well done good performance jey
I havent seen anything new from Jay.... is he still doing videos? Or has it all been posted already? 🤔
Maybe if he has put all the tricks he wants to share he can go back and add some technique tips on the pre-existing ones. I like the narratves he adds in
Jay what do you do after rifling down the pack

SandevWeerasinghe Weerasinghe It's a double lift haha, just a fancy double lift
Can you send a link to the cards you prefer for tricks? Thanks :)

I love your videos @jaynation
+Steffan Vont. I appreciate your feedback good sir!
Good videos. :)
Nice
This is the erdnase color change, the ego change is almost simular as the cardini change
Still good tutorial though
What happens when your trick is discovered? The trick is no longer performable, what do i do? I was found out by my family members when i performed this trick haha.
سبحان الله. إعجاز إسلامي.
Cool
him: click the top of the screen to learn it
Me: clicks
Video: nah sorry imma pause
The story would of gone better with the paint brush color change
What I’ve learned from this: Magic is just a complicated lie
+Jay Nation please tell me
SandevWeerasinghe Weerasinghe Tell you what?
why does he look like that guy from a way out?
cool
this is called erdnase instead
matt lam I believe it can be referred to as either or, but I learned this change almost 8 years ago and names weren't very accurate at that time
his cards are flexible and my cards ar hard
Can't I was born with a defect where I don't have finger nails (base to get metal ones) for multiple other reasons)
Any false cut no oly this :D
this isn't the ego change this is the erdnase card change
yousuf khan All I know is, when I grew up learning this change it was called the Ego change. If it has two names or I learned incorrectly then I apologize haha but I can't change it now
oh im sorry but thanks:)
I enjoy your tutorials. But change the intro it's childish and could look more professional. As well in each tutorial where you put the chosen card in the middle your spread them out. Any other versions?
W
That double is fuckin weird. I like it though
5:04 BALL SHIT! You don't know nothing...
lol how is this a begginer trick?!
Haha! I bet the president elect has some small cards...
It's been the Erdnase change since 1902. Cardini change didn't come for a long while after that and it's a totally different looking change all together with completely different mechanics. C'mon bro. Please buy some older magic books and get caught up on your history. Especially if you are planning on taking a leader role like this. Be a leader and teach your viewers to read and discover the material for themselves too. It's how we keep our art alive!
+LonnieDilan52 I appreciate your passion, but you need to chill out. IF you don't like my videos then don't watch them.
+Jay Nation so you are a film maker. How would you feel if some chump started putting out shitty versions of classic films? If you are going to help people begin thee quests in magic then please provide proper sources. It's not that difficult to do. And you end up looking like s good guy too. It's a small community and you damage the image by doing what you do. Take pride in the history of this art. If you don't care about that then please just stop. Quality over quantity bro. Would you want to study film without knowing the history? As a film and arts major I can tell you that you won't get far in the industry without your film history. It goes both ways bro.
+LonnieDilan52 If someone wants to produce shitty versions of classic films then that's their business. Don't get swept up in the perfection. I do not desire to be a professional magician. If you are upset by the way I make my tutorials then go make some of your own and use your knowledge of its history to make it better than my videos.
+youschtube thank you! I don't think he understands the damage he's doing. He mentioned that he doesn't want to be a professional, but he's teaching other professional magicians work to the masses. That means he's teaching purely based on the zero fucks given principle. Sad.
This is not ego change! Ego change is another name for cardini change.
+Marin Mandic So I've been told
+Jay Nation Sorry than, I didnt watch video till the end, but still it shouldnt be in the name of video.
+Marin Mandic Happens man :)
+Jay Nation what the name of the background song

Too fast!
Bad job executing that move.
dafuq is that "add music" shit at the bottom
R3vengeable An advertisement maybe?
dunno , i don't like it anyways , i hate youtube's useless updates :| ,
PS : it's the first time i got a reply from one of my subscriptions :D
R3vengeable Well that's lame! I always reply, unless for some reason there's no reply button next to the comment (no idea why RUclips does that sometimes)
Jay Nation well you rock man , keep up the good work , awesome tutorials =)
