The reason for the scoreboard being weird at the end, is because it is based on how much you grew. So if you start very small like Rhodes, it is much easier to get high on the scoreboard, but it doesn't mean that you are the most powerful.
Kind of a weird scoring system, I'm sure some other things weighed into it too. Maruya didn't really do anything all game
@@smothdude I believe the score is the number of pops divided by a starting situation modifier which is fixed for all nations, maurya has a the highest divider while minors have a very small one

This game favors small nations that eventually become big. That's why small Rhodes (a single island) and Bosphoran Kingdom, which created massive empires are higher on the list than Maurya which is already massive at a start of the game.
To sum things up: the game favors growth more than the end result.
That was a Kush formed Egypt, that is why it is yellow. And yeah, that's really rare for the AI to do.
And Norica is a formable Gallic Tribe I think - Edit it's a tiny alpine Gallic Nation, but it can technically form Noricum, which is what I was thinking of.
And last but not least, score is based on starting situation, and determined by the amount of citizens and their happiness. Maurya was most certainly, by far, the strongest nation at the end, but their score is divided by way more than a small nation like Rhodes.

Most of the Rome Strategy Games start during the 3rd century BC when the first two Punic Wars took place. Julius Caesar and the subsequent Roman Empire didn't start until the 1st century BC. Part of the reason most strategy games start where they do is that by the time Caesar took over, Rome's ascendancy was all but assured with most of the Mediterranean coast under their control while in 3rd century, they're just a nascent nation in central Italy - possibly having taken southern Italy to boot depending on the year. So the games effectively become "can you replicate Rome's success/stop them?"
Drew, the Boi tribe migrated north and is the foundation to what later on became the Bohemian kingdom read into it, its very interesting ;)
