It’s weird, I was just thinking about that subject. It must be really cool and humbling in a way to be with a friend for so incredibly long and knows you better than anyone on earth. These guys, especially Geddy and Alex as we all know, have been BFFs since they were school kids, so it must be very grounding when the whole world has been telling you that you’re the best thing since sliced bread, but you have that partner right there that can easily remind you that “hey, I knew you when you were a pimple faced kid that didn’t think he’d ever get a girlfriend, so stow that I’m a golden god thing.” I can imagine that must’ve played a part in why these guys have remained so down to earth, when they really didn’t need to.
The use of the Austin Powers clip has to be one of the best gimmicks I've ever seen. The timing is spot on and had me rolling on the floor. Rush has blessed us time and time again.
they changed mine as well. i saw them first in october of 1974 here in houston when they opened for KISS on their first US tour. they got about 6' of the stage and played a 20 minute set. Finding My Way, Working Man and In The Mood. they were a big part of my life for 50 years and i was devastated when neil passed away. i let the chance to see their last tour slip right by and i will regret it forever.
I'm watching this and I'm crying. You don't know what is to live in a country where Rush doesn't tour... Barely once every 10 years... And once you grow up and have the money to travel to Canada or USA to watche them live, Neil passes away... This absolutely breaks my heart... But I'm sure if there's a heaven, it is a Rush concert. And I'm happy that Neil is with his family :,) Lots of love to Rush fans. And for the ones who watched them live, you don't know how lucky you are...
I count myself lucky to have seen them many times, but on another level I know how you feel in high school I was a huge Led Zeppelin fan and had ticket to see them in Philly and Bonham passed away, torn between being pissed on not ever seeing them and John passing away
rush is my favorite band, got to see them live. didn’t appreciate what we had back then, miss them now. One of my brother’s favorite band was the greatful dead. I got us tickets for his birthday for what ended up being their last live show before Jerry passed away. unbelievable- still remember all the details.
@@Raylan-Tsame for me with the late, great Randy Rhoads. I had my ticket in hand (my first real rock concert) then get the news. On the other side, I got to see Cliff Burton play a small club.
@@Daddy53751 funny I had a chance to see Metallica in a small club on Long Island back in the day with Cliff, it was raining and there was a line so we went to another club to see twisted sister instead. Hindsight is always 20/20
I hope this is never removed from RUclips. I watch it over and over and over. So many great moments, and I will never get tired of the precious smile from Neil Peart toward the end. I will never take for granted the opportunity to see artists I love in concert ever again.
There will never ever be an equal the collective talent of this band. The odds of three gifted musicians with this much talent and genuine chemistry finding each other again is absolutely astronomical.
I'm from Dallas and saw them in Denver where I was living at the time. This solo changed my life. This band saved my life. I wouldn't be here without them, they gave me hope and I'll always be thankful
The looks given at 5:18 by Geddy and Alex and the smile by Neil at 5:38ish..signifies not only "hey we still have it", but 'we are next fucking level and know it"
This song always excited me to goose bumps on my skin. Very few musicians can summon an audience as quickly as Rush. At the end Alex is in the pipe at max.
The complexity of this song makes it very difficult to play live, and they nailed it. Listening to the studio version, you forget how all of that sound comes from 3 people. I was very blessed to see them live in 2012, that was the first show that felt like more than just a band playing, it felt like I was witnessing pure art, something that has to be seen to appreciate fully. They are incredible musicians.
I have seen Rush just twice Power Windows and Grace under Pressure, but this 2015 R40 tour is awesome and they are coming to Portland in a week! Yeah!. They just get better with age. Absolutely amazing live band.
Rush are a lot like cartoons. When we were children, a lot of what happened in The Flintstones, Bugs Bunny, Yogi Bear, etc. went over our heads. And as we got older, everything made perfect sense and was indicative of the times.
The absolute craziness of the bass line during the verses. No idea how Geddy can sing while playing that frantically, but I sure as hell am grateful that I'm amongst all y'all that "get it." It's like being a math kid, only way more fun.
1st Rush song I have ever heard, back in 1986 or something. Been addict since then. Much love to these 3 guys! So much work! Yet so much fun! I love it!
Rick OnTheDrums all three is the reason why I stared playing guitar and singing and playing keyboard and bass and drums. Of course I can only play lead guitar keyboard and sing when on stage.
@@chrisgentry2217 Rush is the reason why I play drums, bass and guitar with my 6 arms and 6 legs. LOL. They don't call me the "Octopus Man" for nothing, LOL.
Awesome ! Always loved this song. Really like the album version, but it's nice to hear a more "stripped down" version live without all the album production. Rush Rocks !
This song, as much as any other Rush plays, reflects the musical and technical perfection that has earned the respect and appreciation of both other professional bands and millions of fans around the world. the musical interlude from 3:00-3:55 is nonpareil!
The secret of success for Rush is a combination of three factors: 1) Neil Peart`s drumming-he`s a beast!, 2) Alex Lifeson`s guitar riffs, 3) Geddy Lee`s vocals combined with his bass and keyboards playing.
No, the secret is that they are all good friends, they have a mutual bond of respect for each other. No matter HOW GOOD of a player you are, those factors keep a band together for the long haul, or they fizzle out. They do ALL play awesome tho, like you said, lol.
I have been lucky enough to have seen them live 6 times. Last time in Madison Square Garden. Just put it the video on the big screen with surround sound and you are there.
No one deserves The Big Money more than this trio.
One of the truly talented RNR playing an excellent RNR tune.
This is an incredibly difficult song to play live... the fact that they can nail it is amazing. Rush forever!

Yep!
Not to mention joke around at the same time 😆
no problem for rush
Well, ...they ARE Rush after all. It was kind of their thing to do that.
Geddy is insane.
They all are!!!
Maestros!!! And 'Super Tight'! is a gross understatement
I don't think he knows what a guitar pick is! 😉
@@owencrutcher493 so glad I never saw Geddy Lee using a guitar pick on Bass. Would of ruined his mystique.

Listen and watch his bass line at about the 4:23 mark, and he finishes it with one chord.
The three best most humble musicians who ever lived!

Any keys. And synth bass pedals

My favorite Rush song. The breaks and changes are amazing. Geddy's BEST bass performance. Its sick
A handful of bands have ever rocked this hard period. Rush is for sure on that list.

GOOD GOD I LOVE THE SOLO IN THIS !!!!!

Right!
THREE OF THE GREATEST MUSICIANS THE UNIVERSE WILL EVER SEE. EACH A GRAND MASTER OF HIS INSTRUMENT & CRAFT.
I feel like this song is so underrated. Its my favorite song by rush. And favorite song of all for that matter.
The lead solo and the backing rhythm is off the charts.
definitely in my top 20 all time Rush songs- and they always KILL when they play it live!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!
My favorite Rush song!!!! Rock on!!!!
Such a beatiful guitar solo! Simple but powerful at the same time.
Yes!
One of my favorite Rush songs. Especially love the outro...
This song always excited me to goose bumps on my skin. Very few musicians can summon an audience as quickly as Rush. At the end Alex is in the pipe at max.
I recently read Neil Peart has retired from drumming. Thank you Professor for your service. I'll never stop listening to this band.
The song that introduced me to Rush way back in 1985. Been a rabid fan ever since.
I don't believe most people would even fathom how complex this song really is musically!! Off the charts!
And they make it look so easy
That never gets old, what a great song

this live performance was flawless, never disappointed
There isn't just one god, there are three - Lifeson, Peart & Lee.
The holy trinity
sadly, now only 2 😢
Agreed!
Wow, minute 3:50 is so breathtaking, the bridge, the tune, everything in pure armony. Love it
This one and Turn the Page....how Geddy can play those lines and still sing is beyond my comprehension!
All over the World better listen the song of RUSH
My favorite Rush song from their 80s era 😃
THE BEST BAND

Man...this is the bomb, masters of instruments and vocals. Gotta play loud, I mean LOUD !!! Incredible.
OMG that Bass !
Look how fast his fingers go. Amazing 👏
Absolute masterclass in musicianship. Find another trio making all that complicated music to perfection live.
I find this is an underrated song by Rush. Very high skill and energy
I will never forget those Green Lasers going over my head in 1982 Rosemont Horizon Grace Under Pressure
And yes I was doing one of those things you shouldn't be doing one of those things that bend reality I think they call it LSD
I don't think that they realize what musical geniuses they are . incredible
Neil is the reason I became a drummer
Rick OnTheDrums Alex is the reason I play guitar
Rick OnTheDrums geddy is the reason i picked up the bass

They show more skill in the intro than most band's can muster over an entire career!! RIP Neil
Those guys were beast ! Nothing less !
that was the best live guitar solo ever to exist
I swear these guys are one of the very few bands who can almost completely replicate their studio versions live decades later.
I saw them on this BIG MONEY TOUR in CANADA! SUPERB!!!
this band lives in my very soul.
Gracias Rush ..por este viaje interestelar
I couldn't stop smiling watching this
Thank you Neil for sharing your talents with the world. Can't believe you're gone. RIP.

Alex you are incredible!!!!!
Why does no one ever talk about how sexy the guitar solo in this song is?
Great guitarist with some of the sexiest licks in the world. He and Brian May are the best currently alive
'Cos nobody really looks at guitar solos in that way!
The titre est une tuerie ! Bravo RUSH !
5:02 , one of my favorite moments in rock.
Sure must be difficult to sing and play bass like that.
He also does the keyboards and the foot pedals, and refuses to have anyone else help him with it. Multitasking deluxe.
He makes it look easy too. Everytime I listen to them I'm at a loss for words. They are phenomenal
I had the privilege of seeing them in Milan ... they are really the best musicians I've ever heard
Some of Geddy's playing on Power Windows is hidden genius. Some of the best bass playing I've ever heard but never hear mentioned.
this is one of many things why i love Rush
Pure talent
RIP Neil Peart. You was THE BEST!!
Imagine being that good.
