I see the Middle Kingdom between Heaven and Earth
Like the Chinese call the country of their birth
We all figure that our homes are set above
Other people than the ones we know and love
In every place with a name
They play the same territorial game
Hiding behind the lines
Sending up warning signs
The whole wide world
An endless universe
Yet we keep looking through
The eyeglass in reverse
Don't feed the people
But we feed the machines
Can't really feel
What international means
In different circles, we keep holding our ground
In different circles, we keep spinning round and round
We see so many tribes overrun and undermined
While their invaders dream of lands they've left behind
Better people...better food...and better beer...
Why move around the world when Eden was so near?
The bosses get talking so tough
And if that wasn't evil enough
We get the drunken and passionate pride
Of the citizens along for the ride
They shoot without shame
In the name of a piece of dirt
For a change of accent
Or the color of your shirt
Better the pride that resides
In a citizen of the world
Than the pride that divides
When a colorful rag is unfurled.
"Better the pride that resides, in a citizen of the world, than the pride that divides, when a colorful rag is unfurled". So many people need to listen and understand what they're saying.
yes the rainbow flag is very divisive
@@mikehascats26 way to miss the point.
@@petercorley6102 he didn't miss the point. he avoided the point.
We know. At least the thinking ones.
Rockerfeller agrees.
Alex Lifeson is so freaking brilliant.
not on this song...
henry ramsey don’t know about that, sounds pretty good to me.
Easily one of the most underrated guitar virtuosos. Brilliant is definitely the right word.
I agree because what was he going to do? Geddy Lee? Neil Peart?
Eddie Van Halen said well shit.
Power Windows is my fav Rush album - his Vocals and bass playing were phenomenal on the record. The production was superb - I actually saw this tour - from row in front of Lee.
Agree, best album
got tears in my eyes, when I see the Professor working his drums. RIP Neil
Same for me. Right now. I listen to less Rush since he died. Too sad
He is still so loved, and missed! RIP NEP
Moi aussi!
I grew up in the 80's and loved the hair band generation along with Rush. However, it is only Rush that I continually never get tired of. Why? Because 80's rock anthems get old and you eventually grow out of the party style lyrics of those bands. Rush never did that. They spoke to issues of life and that will always speak to the entirety of your life.
I loved Power Windows! I was in 7th grade and my introduction to the band... I actually didn't know about their older albums or styles of the previous albums. I still think it's cool during this period how the embraced synths, yet still manage to sound uniquely Rush!
Rare we see well 3 of the finest among us in the same room. We have now lost our Professor.
Yet we keep looking through the eyeglass in reverse.
My beloved Spock. My beloved Alex . My beloved Geddy.
All progressive bands have huge participation of the keyboards. Only Rush is attacked for this (and the bashing comes from the fans). Sounds nonsense to me so many fans complaining about the keyboards.
My first concert exposure to Rush was the Power Windows album and tour. Have been hooked since.
Saw them during Power Windows tour in Dallas. Absolutely the best concert I ever attended
I'm jealous.....
Hold Your Fire tour....Dallas as well.
They played two nights in Dallas, at ol' Reunion Arena, on the PW tour. I attended the first show, the first time I had seen them. At the time, I was a 16 year old Rush geekling, and I remember seeing them walk up the steps to the stage as the house lights went down. Chills ran up and down my spine. As long as I have a memory, I will remember that. Saw them on the HYF tour in 'Big D'. The balloons!!!!!
I was there first night- crazy show. Every aisle was packed with standing people, the whole building stood the entire show, which seemed like 10 minutes. Reunion had the best acoustics- sorry it's gone. I was wondering who else witnessed that pandemonium. I saw the HYF show there from row 10 also, but nothing was like that PW show in the hundreds of shows I've seen so far..@@worldbfree47
5:49 I fucking love that bassline
And he plays that lines while singing, during the verses.
Lee is an outstanding musician.
Yes, it is a beautiful moment, Neil rotating his stick and Geddy letting it go, showing his trademark. Plus, Fender always sounds better than Wal.
Don't feed the people
But we feed the machines
Can't really feel what international means
Ouch
I love Geddy's little wink at the end there.
Much like exquisite dining, the best music comes from the best ingredients. And Rush are masters of the fine details.
One of my favorite songs ever! RIP Neil, RIP.
As relevant today as it was then.....
Middletown Dreams follows this classic. It truly demonstrates how the placement of songs on an ALBUM is absolutely essential!!!
'Power Windows' is a brilliant album! A masterpiece, unlike anything you've heard! Great, proper use of synth embellishments to add to the music's message as well!
Why people can't praise Power Windows without mention synths?
People seems always be justifying themselves for loving a great album that has many keyboard layers.
Progressive rock always was about big keyboard participation in the songs.
@@josie1776 Well, oftentimes people will mention synths in a negative fashion. Many prog rock songs do not have synthesizers, which of course is OK. It depends on the band, era, and desired 'feel' for what the band is trying to achieve. But you are right... much of prog rock does use synths, and that's a great thing!
@@AudiophileTubes , even Rush, a trio that doesn't have a keyboard player, started using keyboards in early works and never put them out since then.
Progressive is about rock containing always room for keys.
We can count on fingers the progressive bands that does not have synts, moogs, pianos, organs, strings, etc, on their songs.
The proposal of the genre itself did not make sense without this instrument.
@@josie1776 I largely agree with you. Technically, Geddy is a vocalist, bass, and keyboard player, but there were many Rush songs without keys. Some people say that Rush was not a pure prog rock band during their nascent days, but more a hard rock act. I can see that. Thanks for posting!
@@AudiophileTubes, how many progressive bands without keys can you tell me now?
Rip Neil. Thanks for memories.
These lyrics ring so true!!!
The best rendention of territories is on a show of hand...
So many territorial games... Amazing and powerful song.
The masters, great album.Miss these guys
i love this was basically a power windows tour 2.0
Absolutely brilliant....musically, lyrically....all the way around! Brilliant.
I'm impressed by the stage props for this tour. Everything seems like a quirky invention in addition to an instrument or set piece.
RUSH === Musicianship === best they can do === Wonderful true and honest music.
Impeccable musicianship. Power Windows is an amazing record not just for the composition but for the indelible lyrics. I was 17 when this album dropped. Rush is etched in my history as in the world's.
I’ve been listening to rush since the early eighties when I discovered them I felt like I’d been living in a vacuum they changed my life it’s amazes me that they did this song live cos the album version is layered soooo much but apparently they never but so many layers so that they couldn’t do it live for there wonderful fans
The growl gives me goosebumps. Those big chords.
Oh man... i am so emotianal listening to this - knowing i saw this live and never weill see it agian. Thank you Rush, thank you Neil... you made my world!
One word, More!
Perfection...
absolutely RUSH
I know Neil is no longer with us, but I don't beive he is human. His drumming is phenomenal
1985: "Some of these Brit Pop and New Wave-y bands are really putting out more complex songs."
Rush: "Hold our beers."
Frickin' brilliant performance!
I love this song 🎵 and it is especially divine live!
My 8 year old self was pissed when they played this instead of my favorite, The Body Electric, when I saw them in 1986. It made an impression; I simply did not get how touring for album support worked. Hindsight is 20/20, but I still remember the video screen!
The sound is SOOO complex...
In the studio, it can be easy,...
But to play this LIVE,,,,,.....
😃😲😌😆😄😏🤗😮😮😮😆
This is slowly becoming my favorite Rush song from their ‘80s period (Vital Signs is still my fav from that era).
Yet another brilliant song from Rush , better the pride that resides
Wonderful
There are NO words! RIP Neil!
Interesting in this video to watch them switch from a really deep bass (probably MIDI to a Moog box) on the left hand to Geddy on the pedals to Alex on the pedals.
Amazing sound. That is all.
That was great
Listen to Geddy walk it at the end of the song ; RESPECT
I remain 64. Best band in history. I rest my case. Debatable? Yes. My humble vote is cast.
#respect --- musicians at work
I could tell his voice just isn't the same but is expected of the longevity of what greatness they have done. Sucks getting old.
Insane!!❤️
Fantastic baseline!!!
fucking unreal!
I call This...... Grace Under Pressure....!!!!
Neils master piece.
🌟 stars on Alex's t shirt.
"Hey buddy !!! Who you winkin at ??? "
"They shoot without shame in the name of a piece of dirt,
for a change of accent , or the color of your shirt.
Better the pride that decides in a citizen of the world
than the pride that divides when a colorful flag is unfurled."
If anyone has a better poem at hand, please provide it.
I do

Les paroles sont bonnes !
So crazy they played this all those years later
Neil looks tired and he’s still kicking butt.
Tired 60+ years old Neil is still better than 95% of all drummers out there!
@@medmac2112 100%. I really miss him
North Korea. Such timeless music.
This sounds RADICALLY better with Geddy playing a Fender Jazz than that Steinberger or Wol bass.
They play the same Territorial game
61,000 views? There's something wrong with this world.
Why does Rush think this song is good enough to put on a concert DVD. So many great tunes are left off these concert DVDS
:) :)) :)))
I could say something.
3:06
Stuff, to funny.
Show of Hands version is much better.
Of course it was that was them in their prime. This version is still good though.
Get ready everyone. This song will be relevant after the 2020 election
In the new nationalist Trump America, this song carries even more meaning
Territorial games didn't start with Trump, they won't end with him either. He is just a puppet like those who preceded him.
pineapplepeanuts i would LOVE to hear what they think of trump. Rush is a big time liberal band. I would imagine peart in particular would not have very nice things to say about trump. Theyve written multiple songs speaking out against people like him. Big Money being a good one.
They aren't a big time liberal band. Liberal these days means socialism and Marxism. Peart is a libertarian. YYUGE difference. I'd bet if he was American, he would have held his nose and voted for Trump...like I did.
Tim Renken Peart actually calls himself a "bleeding-heart Libertarian". But, with a two-party system he is more closely aligned with the Democratic party.
I am myself a moral conservative, which means that there really isn't a party out there that works for me. ;-)
Let's take a beautiful song and politicize it. Thanks douche.
geddy less voice last years
This is one of those situations where the live version eclipses the studio version. Outstanding.
Try 4 decades of listening. I have.
ALWAY’S with RUSH
This is my favorite Rush song. Nobody believes me!
I believe you. It's not hard to believe.
Wait till the 2020 election this will be relevant
I believe you. This was the first Rush song I ever heard. It was the first song on side 2 of the Power Windows cassette. The person who borrowed it before me from the library never rewound it. Have been a fan ever since. Yes, I am old. :)
Same here. hehe.
I never had it on my personal 'top 10 Rush songs' list, but just recently I was browsing through their songs, looking for one that is catchy, but also showcases their incredible skills on their respective instruments. The best of those songs that did both for me was 'Territories'. (That's why I am here now, actually.) So, while it's probably still not my favourite, I can easily understand why you put it in your top spot.
2015 was the end of RUSH & January 7th 2020 put an end to RUSH permanently .....RIP Neil Peart...the whole world will never forget you & neither will I ..RUSH fan forever..
A complete song. Amazing drums, rockin’ bass, melodic guitar, awesome vocals/lyrics and BETTER BEER!!
Better the pride that resides in a citizen of the world than the pride that divides when a colorful rag is unfurled
Tge set list of this tour, fantastic 5 songs from Power Windows, 2 from Grace, 2 .rom Signals. Very 80's
This is one of my most FAVORITE RUSH songs EVER!!! Even though MOST RUSH fans seem to FORGET this one in their all-time FAVORITE list on RUSH............THIS SONG speaks VOLUMES in terms of social-justice,as opposed to the lyrics of the more "popular" ones!!! Being a Native...........My Heart hears EVERY WORD in "We see so many Tribes, overrun and Undermined,While their Invaders dream.........of lands they Left behind!!! " Yup,to me,those words speak VOLUMES!!! ~Peace~
I didn't forget! I'm an 80's and 90's Rush fan. I love love love their synth era not to mention Power Windows!
AWESOME to hear sky langford!!! I'm right there with ya myself!!! Most of my Loves, are ALSO 80's and 90's RUSH too!!! Nothing will ever top the music they produced during that time!!! :)
Oh totally and not to mention that 80's Rush was a gate way drug for me, allowing me to explore other genres of music such as Metal, Dark wave, New wave, Post Punk, Gothic, and Industrial. Pretty strange genres of music that it led me too (except for Metal) but hey Rush will do that...
Ain't it the truth My Friend!!!
Better food, better beer...
A perfect example of how this band was greater than the sum of its parts. The lyrics are absolutely fabulous and the music... well... don't get me started!
As a teenager in the 80's learning the drums, I wanted to be Neil's stunt double when I grew up.
The ride-out at the end is very menacing. Awesome.
This written over 30 yrs ago right?? Not like in last 10 yrs??..
It's a timeless classic...
This blows the studio version away imo.
Not a bad song on PW. Best blend of guitar and keys. Bass riff is just SICK. Ged's voice sounds great and Neil, well RIP Brother!
RUSH 'paints pictures' on the brilliant masterpiece 'Power Windows'! The incredible songwriting and sonic embellishments on this great, timeless album weave a tapestry of world class music!
This was on the B side when Rush released The Big Money single before Power Windows was released. You can bet I thought this is one of the most unique songs written. It's still true. You bet I drove 70 miles to the nearest record store to buy this single when it dropped.
I would love to be a teenager at that time. But, sadly, I was just a kid.
Well... anyway, it would not make difference, cause here in Brazil finding Rush records in the stores was hard on the 80's decade.

Rush meets house music. 1st major band to do so. One more reason why this song may be their very best.
and then then ending with Doom goth Rush 5.42 onwards. amazing song.
Sounds of my youth, where are you...my 80s, with love from Russia!
0 dislikes.. They obviously stayed for the better beer..
Shaun Barry that's a cool one
I have been listening to rush since I was 11 years old in I have seen them in concert several times they were great band
bought the power windows album in the sam the record man store in mountain plaza mall in hamilton.
This guys never dissapoint me... great song in the 80's and now... and forever!!!
Geddy's having a hard time hitting the high notes. Neil's still in top form.
Too bad they would have played these power windows songs before the vapour trails tour when geddys voice wasnt shot.this and middle towndreams counterparts or test for echo tour would have been great
Goddamn! I miss these guys. RIP Pratt!
God. How do I envy the amount of endorphins these guys shared through so many years. They sound modern, hi tech, like a spaceship, but with soul and poetry. ART.
And yet, as a family.
better the pride that resides
in a citizen of the world
than the pride that divides
when a colourful rag is unfurled.
words to live by.
Some😊body can explain how the Alex guitar change the sound too fast?....what kind of amazing electronic equipment he play?...sometimes is staccato..sometime is different.
