- I took all the cutscenes from the Age of Mythology Retold Beta and put over the old classic VA's. This isn't a mod or anything, i just edited it like this.

Which do you prefer?
I vastly prefer the accents of the new one but vastly prefer the delivery of the old one. The new actors are actually alright but clearly weren’t given any good direction for their lines.
Original. The deliveries are so much better!
Minor non characters like the hplites sound quite good in retold, but the main characters are better in the original

They're should be a shrug when Odysseus and Arkantos turned to each other after Agamemnon said his plan.

Soooo much better! No comparison. They should offer an option for the OG VO in the full game…
I do agree the choice to change it would be fantastic. If not then modders will surely do that very early after release. Seems like these are gonna be the first mods to hit it big.

Thank god. I literally felt sick listening to the “new” VAs completely mangle the delivery and attitude of the lines I loved so much. As if speaking in a Greek accent is what mattered. They’re SPEAKING Greek. They don’t need accents.

They should have had them all speak their native language and then had a few scenarios where Arkantos has to learn old norse to speak with Brokk and Eitri.

@RG32822 Amanra's bio mentioned her being able to speak multiple Egyptian languages, given that she was a mercenary I could see her knowing some Greek as well just in case she ever encountered Greek soldiers.
While it probably wouldn't fit the campaign, a little scene of Amanra teaching Arkantos some Egyptian would be cute to imagine.
Thank you that is exactly what needs to be done. I hope the devs see this.

I appreciate the new VAs and am planning to play through the Retold with them first as it is meant to by the devs, but you bet i will jump in the moment modders will include the original VAs in it. It feels like home again.
They should add an option in the settings to use legacy VA.
Except for the exchange at 0:33 that while cinematic syncs up. I'm quite sure they are still using the old cinematic triggers and that's why dialogues keep cuting each other
I think that might be a bug in the Retold version
Definitely hope that will be fixed, noticed a few cutoffs here and there
I am Greek and I have to say that the new voice lines are unbearably cringe.
They don't get our accent... it sound horrible. The old voice line are by far superior.
Honestly the new VA isn't half bad. If it was a brand new game, it would have been great. But it simply can't beat how much love and nostalgia we all have for the OG

nostalgia is hardly at play. The new VA just isn't capture the character personality.
I mean, Athena was meant to be a god, not some kind of concierge. And she is the least of the VA problem if you compare it to Kamos or Arkantos.
Arkantos VA is disgraceful to be honest, in the original AOM, he sounds stout, shrewd, tenacious. It actually reflect the things he did in the story (inspiring general). In the retold, he is calm, having an accent that is equal to a greek scholar... that is simply break his personality, except if the story is being retold that he is some kind of behind-the-curtain strategist.
Other than that, the dev did a really good job at representing the game, minus the AI god portraits (especially Osiris fingers)
You’re welcome to your opinion. I always appreciate people not being overly negative/finding positives in things.
I was personally surprised at how bad I found the new voice acting, given I had heard the complaints online before playing for myself and figured it was just people whining about change. But I found the new acting to be short on emotion, and some of the direction was just… weird. There were some line reads that sounded to me like somebody was reading the script for the first time.
You would think that, if in doubt, the new VAs would at least try to match the old VA’s in terms of tone and direction, but some lines were delivered completely randomly.
For me, it borders on bad enough to have me wondering whether or not it was just placeholder audio by random crew, and the “real” voice acting will be inserted later.
@@geneparmesan8748 I hope it's just placeholders for the Demo. The Retold voices don't feel like they fit the environment of the game.
This is what Athena should've been. Sounds like calm before the big war, not like passionate about the war itself.

This is my childhood game. I still remember playing it on weekends. It brings back lots of memories.
Since it's beta maybe with enough people talking about it maybe we'll get the original voices

Aside from accent (which is not even an accurately Greek one), we all know the delivery is night and day between the OG voice actors and the Retold ones.
i will 100% be installing this as a mod, if they don't include it themselves.
I am sure we will be able to install a mod on the old voice acting from the steam workshop!
Honestly the old one is better imo. Just the emotions and drive speaks for itself. You can easily imagine Ajax and Arkantos being good friends while the new VA just feels flat like reading lines rather than friendly banter
I don't have any real complaints about the new voice acting, but the OG really had something special about it
The terrible voice deliver is one thing, but the attitude these characters give each other is another whole thing like how they just can't wait for others to finish their lines before jumping in, soldiers swiftly walk away before commanders' orders are fully declared. 🤣🤣

I only care about the heroes voice acting, all other side characters can me changes without any gripes from me, like the random soldiers and whatnot.

There's a reason that GOOD voice actors are GOOD.
Needing a greek accent was a stupid reason for picking new actors.
Think back to the 1950s and 60s where Hollywood had great actors like Richard Burton and Anthony Quayle, Peter O'Toole and John Gielgud playing Romans and Greeks.

I am not too familiar with Greek accents but the New VA sounds like someone who is from Spain to try a Russian accent, though you can hear the spanish, and at some point they are gonna explode into German.
Plus Arkantos sounds far more serious in the OG. Also, that boat on the water, immersion violation, its beyond immersion breaking so I hope some ripple and waves splitting is added to that cutscene. Before anyone say, atleast in OG, the devs atleast try to add onto the illusion.

Seems many of the voices just have a lot more emotion in the original, which makes it better aswell

Yes! You're right, at some points there is delay between lines. There are also some where i had to delay it myself a bit so it would sync up better with AoM retold!

what PC you have?
My AoM Retold footage was on a gtx 1060 gpu, ryzen 5 3600 cpu with 32gb's of ram. Upgraded to An RTX 4070 gpu 2 days ago!
is it a new engine or a revamp of the old engine?
I believe it is a revamp of the old engine. It's the same one as AoE 3 uses. So basically a newer version of the old(Original AoM) engine if i understand correctly!

@@SIGNOR-G I don't have the knowledge to argue about it, for me I prefer the new ones for that reason, but I think nostalgia 'blinded' those who love the old and hate the new
